yeah I know the feeling of the full time job getting in the way of your scrapping. with the prices going up and down so much I would not want to be a full time scrapper with out a side income

From Wikipedia: "Aluminum building wiring is a type of electrical wiring for residential construction or houses that uses aluminum electrical conductors. Aluminum provides a better conductivity to weight ratio than copper, and therefore is also used for wiring power grids, including overhead power transmission lines and local power distribution lines, as well as for power wiring of some airplanes.[1][2] Utility companies have used aluminum wire for electrical transmission in power grids since around the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It has cost and weight advantages over copper wires. Aluminum wire in power transmission and distribution applications is still the preferred material today." "In North American residential construction, aluminum wire was used for wiring entire houses for a short time from the 1960s to the mid-1970s during a period of high copper prices. Electrical devices (outlets, switches, lighting, fans, etc.) at the time were not designed with the particular properties of the aluminum wire being used in mind, and there were some issues related to the properties of the wire itself, making the installations with aluminum wire much more susceptible to problems. Revised manufacturing standards for both the wire and the devices were developed to reduce the problems. Existing homes with this older aluminum wiring used in branch circuits present a potential fire hazard."

I helped a buddy back in like 2000 . His sister needed a "fix it" on the house to be sold in Buffalo . It was aluminum wired . We had to pull every outlet and switch out and wire nut a three inch copper wire to each connection . That was code and f-d up -

are hot water tanks and other appliances such as washer and dryers worth the effort? And what about old batteries?? wish I had the tools to get into it...maybe next time I am at the pawnshop I will look at their air tools. I also have OEC, great little newspaper.
@Okiescrapper3 жыл бұрын
on hot water tanks first thing is get the pressure release valve for the brass, then if electric I pull the wires and done, washers and dryers I pull the motors and wire. you can start with a hammer, side cutters (wire cutters) a magnet, screwdrivers, file, and a hacksaw, then work up from there, when you get started don't be afraid to run an add, I used to have competition in that paper. where are you located?
@rancherfarmerguy3 жыл бұрын

In your opinion I take it you can weld. Would you say a mig welder is the best all around type to start learning on. And what is a inexpensive one that is good? Thanks Friend!!👍👍
@Okiescrapper3 жыл бұрын
I have a flux core wire feed welder and a Lincoln cracker box arc welder, never used a mig welder, but they can do so much more. the flux core wire feed is a inexpensive way to start of you plan to move up to mig, as it is a wire feed so you can get used to the wire feed feel. the flux core does splatter a lot. the flux core welder run just over $100.00 a Lincoln arc welder is a little over $200.00

personally if i had an oil burner tub set-up I would go after anything aluminum and the copper be a bonus material plus that aluminum will melt just fine and the paper can burn just as a caution tho stand downwind of it because of the glue
