Not my nosy ass hoping that more people make videos like this listing the prices they paid for plants in their collection so that I feel better about my life choices 👀
If you're reading this description, tell me in the comments about the best plant trade you've ever done!

I don't really care to judge on how much a person spent, but I do care to know how much I should pay for a certain plant. I got a little scammed through Etsy a couple of times because it was hard to gauge how much that plant should have cost judging by where I live, and having people who are knowledgable about the market because they collect be more open about cost , it would have definitely been a huge help in avoiding the pit fall.

I enjoyed this video, not so much for the cost:benefit analysis but telling the history of each plant. Wish more channels did that: when acquired, care, propagation, etc. Thanks.

Great topic! I've always loved plants. But I definitely spent more in 2020 on plants than I ever have. I didn't have the means you did to buy such expensive plants, but I did make some purchases that were more than I would have spent normally. My regrets are few, because they brought me joy and purpose, during one of the darkest and most frightening times in our world history. My son is in college and is doing a study on the impact the world wide plant buying frenzy had on folks mental health. The study is proving to be very interesting and is showing that hands down, in every corner of the world, when folks were highly motivated to care for plants their mental health was uplifted. That alone, in my opinion, makes my plant purchases during the pandemic worth the cost. Thank you for this video! Much appreciated, Lynn

I actually love this kind of video because I’m just getting back into the hobby after being out of it since 2019. Now looking back, I’m happy I wasn’t around for them when they were crazy expensive during the 2020 boom 😂 But it’s nice for me to be able to get a read on what’s available and how much things are going for now as I start to get back into it!

You are certainly not alone with bad plant purchases. Thank you for putting out this video so others don't feel alone. My biggest regret was not waiting longer for the burle Marx flame which went from about £2500 for a two leaf cut down to £500 🤦 I would say I've learnt my lesson and I partly have but I can still be pretty careless. I have promised the hubby I will never pay four figures for a plant again 🙈

When I started, initially was for a living wall above my aquarium. Before moving on to potted ones. I spent thousands on them. And at that point of time, it was always impulse and from online platforms that sells everything and not just plants. Only to realize later that there are local plant groups, and home sellers, that sell all those plants at a MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper price and BETTER quality. I can't believe I was oblivious to all these facts before buying. Was a painful journey at the beginning whenever I thought about it now, but oh so glad that things are wonderful now when it comes to plant-keeping. Also, many times when I bought plants(after learning to buy from home sellers and local plant groups), was paying quite a sum for them, and then the next day, someone else selling an adult form for half of what you paid for the babies. 🤣

Hey Alice! I think you did fantastic on these gorgeous buys! I wouldn’t feel bad and I wouldn’t regret a damned thing. The only things I EVER regret are the plants that I don’t buy. Nothing haunts me more than the ones that got away! The heterocraspedon is still top on my wishlist, but I am currently 16 days into my first Ecuaflor-a import (I’ve always ordered from ecuagenera’s Florida location); so it’s my first true import!! Your import videos (yours, jing’s, and Charmaine’s) definitely made me do it😂😂 And I am SO excited to say that all of my plants are doing well so far!! You have a gorgeous collection. I’ve definitely been bit by the anthurium bug too, but I don’t see myself being able to get any of those gorgeous hybrids anytime soon. Someday #sigh lol!

Great topic. Yes to more of these types of videos. I’m so grateful I bought too many common plants during the height of the pandemic. I was shocked how quickly I fell out of love with a lot of them but at least the total dollar amount was so much less than it would have been out had I known what I was missing out on… oh they money I would have blown 😂 Now, I feel a little like a vulture buying up discounted imports others regret buying. Seems like as demand and prices fall, fewer discounted imports will be available though. At some point, I expect plant prices to stabilize but at a lower starting point. It’s going to be interesting to see.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. You definitely had some epic wins, and a hard lesson or 2. This really was a wake up call for me. Mainly to be patient, grow out my collection for trades and enjoy the wonderful connections I've made on this fabulous plant journey. The clear love you share with your friends is wonderful to hear! Also, no regrets! Get the plants that bring you joy for a cost you can afford to pay. It seems obvious, but that gets lost in our passion! I truly appreciate your transparency. I really enjoyed that video and it makes me feel less terrible about my purchases 🙈 I can agree to 100% about the "just waiting", the prices mostly come down after some month. For example: In 2020 I got a Syngonium Red Spot Tricolor. It was my top one wishlist plant and I paid 580 euros for a small plant. At this time it was a really great offer but now you get cuttings for 20 euros. I really regret getting this plant at this time espacially because of the price tag and it did not grow well for me (mostly hold on only to three or four leafs).

Let’s be honest, we’ve ALL thrown caution to the wind and thrown money out the window on plants. Some we regret, some we don’t. Be patient and most plants will come down, but sometimes we aren’t patient. Great video.

Loved this video. I definitely fell hard for the melano, and fell just as hardly out of love. It’s an impossible plant for me. I did want to say that I had a similar curling phenomenon with my vittarifolium, and it ended up having stem rot. I think the leaves curl because they can’t access water, and either that’s from not watering or something is wrong at the root/stem level.

Such an interesting video, I do wonder a lot how much others pay for plants! I feel the regrets with you haha. I wish trades were easier here, but in my experience here in the UK people hardly ever want to trade and prefer to sell :( every time I've agreed a trade with someone they always back out or they give vibes like they're doing me a huge favour by trading so I just feel bad and say nvm.

Yeah, the melano and the waroc were the two plants I wasted the most money on. Bought 3 of each and been regretting it ever since. Learned my lesson though. I think both of them are pretty easy to grow - but only if you can offer them constant 70%+ humidity and since they both get too big too fast, it's impossible without a huge green house.

I've imported more plants this year than I thought 😳
