Loved your honesty and the fact you didn't try to justify your "town food". It's YOUR trip and you enjoyed it YOUR way. Kudos to you!

In July I spent... Bus, to and from: 246$ (I live in Iowa) Weed: 152$ 😎 Resupply: 200$ (I lost 30 pounds in 30 days 😬 Town food: 25$ (or less. It was hard) Hotel: 110$ Gear: 200$ish (needed shoes and a extra layer) And I did laundry in a ziplock. Like a G 920$ total, roughly.

Awesome! $2k for living outside in amazing Colorado for a month isn't bad at all! Some people spend more than that for a single night in a hotel in Vail, without seeing nearly as much. Great video! Keep it up!

Dude, huge thanks for the info from your trip! Will you be doing a review from the logistics of resupply distances, trail towns, and getting to and from some of the long distance hitches in the southern leg of the trail??
@ChrisGoesOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I could in theory. I talked about that in the 41 minute absurd long video but where it was quite rambly I figured not worth it. Will try and make a shorter thing about that but all the stops I went to were no issue. The hardest hitch was Lake City but thats because I got to the road with like 12 people who refused to split into smaller groups so NOBODY stopped until a trail angel shuttle came eventually and took all of us in

Awesome, living here in Colo, I wouldn’t be needing airfare, I would need a few gear upgrades, but would probably be using friends and family to get to and from trail and towns. 😊🌲

Interesting video! I thru hiked the CT in 2018, and my "all in" expense was about $2700, including the gear that I bought while at home explicitly for the hike. My "DIA airport to DUR airport" cost was about $836; just a little under the "$2 per mile" that is often quoted for on trail expenses for thru hikes.
@ChrisGoesOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Ya can definitely be done for cheaper. All about what you want to do while you are out there. In my case, I wanted to live it up a little haha

I have done the trail a few times and the CT town food is maybe the best of any trail . Colorado Trail towns tend to b Gucci and the food fresh and the coffee delish oh and the bake good sigh.. 😋 it's also expensive but like u said only a month so just enjoy if u can . Hike on ...

I did similar. I watched a handful of videos but I feel like a lot of them didnt showcase many of the views. Even in showcasing the views, the videos only do so much. Seeing it in person you may still not even believe what you are seeing!

Hey Chris, great series. Did you mail resupply boxes on the trail (other than I think your first one to start the trip) or just rely on the small towns along the way? Where were those resupply points and if you were to do it over again, would you change anything? (regarding resupply)

I went with the katabatic palisade. Also a Colorado based company so figured it made sense. Was going to grab something at the two in Frisco(?) if katabatic couldn’t get me a quilt but they did!

Did you hang a bear bag or keep in tent with you? I’m thinking of the Ursack... thanks Chris! - Chica
@ChrisGoesOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Dont think I hung a bag once. Usually slept with it. Wouldn't necessarily recommend that but. I wrapped it in my pack liner and tucked it in another like bag. If I were to do it again I would probably take an ursack

Nice video Chris. Is there a way you could share a blank copy of that spreadsheet? I'm hiking the Appalachian Trail this year and was wanting a way to track my expenses.
@ChrisGoesOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Probably not, I just made a basic one through google sheets and the formulas I used for the totals are like totally hodgepodged. I work in tech.... I should have done it better but alas here we are haha. All I did was create a google sheet and update it as I went. You can actually work on the document offline too if that helps

@@crispysock520 Hello, my start date is February 29th. I plan on doing the approach Trail to Springer Mountain. Are you going to be vlogging your hike? My channel is just Joe Hikes. I'm going to do an announcement video after I turn in my notice at work, February 3rd. I'm super excited about starting. Like the Willie Nelson song, "Always on my Mind". Hope to meet you out there.

I understand you had cost associated with the hike that would be obvious but did you generate revenue from it?
@ChrisGoesOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Was getting paid vacation time away from work and made maybe a couple hundred off KZfaq video ad revenue over the entirety of the trail videos I ended up posting from the CT. At best I may have come close to breaking even
