Lease the truck but get it from a truck sales place, get it as new as possible and put 5k down, your lease to own truck payment will be a 100% write off for taxes, make sure the truck is fairly new with low miles and a warranty and if you lease on to a larger company it’s cheaper insurance and down payment and I put 6k down on my flatbed trailer and grossed 270k I’m 2017

Good information bro I’m currently a truck business owner myself been doing it for 14 years. Little advice bro. Look into the truck auctions held in the United States and learn how it works. I could have got you 2 truck for 20, 700 or just one for 10k and saved you 10k knowledge is everything keep pushing bro ttyl

@@Rogerdis215 leasing your truck to a company is nothing more than a glorified truck driver who gets to pay for your truck plus maintain it without getting the entire freight rate. Your better off to get your own authority yes its harder in the beginning but it will pay much better because you will be the one who decides what a good rate is instead of just getting what that lease company decides what it wants to pay you.

This government regulations kill small guys and help big companies for big companies is a tax write off for a small new guy is killer its the same in restaurant business its called corruption big guys pay off crappy government regulators like this BS eld i pulled at las vegas convention center to pickup and I had to wait there 14 hours by the time I loaded i was all out of time so now I have to wait 10 hours before I can leave even known i waited there didn't do much but my time moved as I moved a few yards up every few hours that's all good old crappy government at work

Nice step by step price breakdown. Aspiring o/o’s keep in mind you can buy your truck and “lease on” (run under the operating authority of) an already established carrier. That will lower your start up costs. While leasing on you can save up to become independent if that’s your ultimate goal. Don’t confuse “leasing to” with “leasing FROM” a carrier. Leasing a truck FROM the carrier you run for is like the wolf guarding the sheep. #drivesafe

That's really not expensive! Trucks cost way more than that, its probably used. I have a friend who drives and he spent $30000.00 just for the truck and it was well used @ 2,000,000 miles with a warranty to completely overhaul the engine which is about 27,000.00. So believe me this is not much how he's breaking it down with acquisition cost and fees??

So for all the filings and legal stuff, it came to a little more than $7500. That's the $29,557 less the $20,700 for the truck, the $1,000 for the trailer, the $300 for the GPS, and the $30 for the fire extinguisher. That's not too bad, really. @@TruckingFromScratchWell I'm a Realtor not so much a wholesaler anymore(i closed my first wholesale deal in 2011). Any how there is a certain person in the trucking industry going viral lately. And he's selling online course on how to start a trucking business/fleet without a CDL. He's taking the guru approach which I hate because it is misleading people in to thinking its eady industry when that is so far from the truth. The coaching program starts at $2,000 Which may be worth it to some but there is a lot of free resources available. I respect what you do with no strings attached. P.s. i drove local for 3 years looking to hop in my own truck want to go owner op in my own truck but hesitate dont know who to sign on with.

David, what would be a healthy amount to start a trucking business: $50,000. $75,000...etc?

The max you'll need is 30k depends what you're going for. Long haul or short. The truck and trailer is the main tool you have to worry about, how much are you willing to put down on a good truck that wont leave you on the side of the road with more expensive repairs. Down in the end it boils down to a good broker and driver. If you want a sense of security 50k would be where it's at. Its gonna cost me 25k to do mines but I'm saving up way way more due to any emergency events, you need extra cash to pay drivers for the first few trips and have extra cash to pay insurance, fuel, etc in case you dont get work for the first month for what ever reason.

Is the age of the tractor or trailer ever a factor in being able to book a load with a shipper? For example if the age of the equipment is more than 10 years old we don't want you to move our freight?

It can be but its not always an issue. But if your going to be a leased operator to another trucking outfit then they are sometimes much more picky as to the age of your equipment.

Create an account with FMCSA apply for yourj DOT. After you can apply for your MC if im not mistaken. Not sure if they charge for the DOT but I know MC is $300 one time pay. My dad and I run intrastate only so we don't need an MC. MC is more for interstate carrier for hire/out of state. But if you do decide to get your MC then you'll need your IFTA, portion license plates BOC-3 and i believe that's it. But in order for you to apply for the MC you need to have the insurance active before applying for MC as per FMCSA rep. If you want alot more info give FMCSA a call and they should be able to answer your questions. If they can't answer your questions then ask them to refer you to someone that can answer your question. Trust me. That's what I've been doing for an entire month now. Speaking to different people none stop and im kinda liking it lol.
