As expected this is really well done, transparent, and super interesting. Obviously overlanding can be done on a budget but it’s amazing how quickly builds adds up when you invest in quality gear. I think everyone has to recognise this is Robs job (as well as obvs a huge passion). A lot of ppl spend the same and it’s just a toy. Super cool rig and great video as always. ☺️

A lot of comments seem shocked by the costs, but i see trucks like yours all over the place. At least you have a more professional reason to justify it. It seems pretty common for people to pay so much for 'overland' rigs like yours, let alone the RVs, quad bikes, etc. Makes my 2 door JK and a tent look skinny and poor, but still gets out there

WOW!!!! I hope your channel is successful and can support that expensive vehicle. Your videos are well done and interesting. As a subscriber I look forward to each new video. I dream of traveling like you, a member of the rich and famous overlanding family, but then I come back to ground level and hop back into my 2003 Jeep TJ (with over 250,000 miles on it) towing my $1700 DIY offroad trailer. I travel with a smile on my face and the wish that you will keep making my dream videos for me. Thanks for what you do.😀

This reminds me of professional gamer computer setups. They feature the best of the best parts, along with bells and whistles that average (even gamer) people scoff at. "This is way overbuilt" or "Why would you spend that much?" is frequently heard. They fail to realize that it's their job and 'just enough to have fun' isn't usually the goal. Same can be said for so many other activities, something about men and boys being separated? 👍

$117,702 not including labor and other costs. Why not include them to give a more accurate amount? Considering all you've done and all you've got for free, that would probably bring it over $130,000 easily. Do you think spending all that money has increased viewership in your channel and thus increased your revenue?
@jeepncj7

I mean post 100k I don't know if many would really care at that point lol. It's interesting to show transparency in cost of what it takes to get this truck to where it is at, but it is very niche for someone to be spending that kind of money on a rig. I think just the parts alone is enough to give folks the perspective of what the costs are.
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland Жыл бұрын
Two reasons. The first is that for someone trying to replicate this, the tax, delivery, and install costs are going to vary by a lot. The second is that I didn’t want to have to dig through all my receipts to find exact amounts, since mine also varied wildly depending on state or purchase, whether I installed it, or had someone install it for me! The truck has definitely helped with views, affiliate sales, my own website sales, and a lower tax bill, but it’s still a long way from paying for itself!

Thanks for doing this. I'm more curious on your thoughts on the AT habitat. Not from a build quality perspective, but more about how you don't know if the expense was justified based on your use case. For me as a viewer, it looks like the ultimate solution for both family and work use, so it would be awesome to hear more about your perspective having owned it for a while vs what you had with the ikamper.

Really cool build and it’s awesome some of the companies valued your channel and content enough to “give” you some of the gear - although, the time you put in to develop the content is probably worth a lot. With that said, for “normal” people who aren’t KZfaqrs, I hope folks arent spending this much on rigs to get out there. Man, there’s a whole world out there to explore. Spend money on that, folks! I have a ‘19 Rebel loaded to the point I was able to take along the Pony Express no problem and many other adventures and a ‘77 FJ40. All in, for both rigs, I’d say 54k. And that’s a lot, IMO.

You don't need any of it - all you need is a canteen/jerky and either a mule or camel.......well a water filtration device would be nice. Might as well have a truck, go ahead and get a 4x4, might as well get a full size, and a crew cab, and all terrain tires and thats it. Well, might as well get some off road wheels and upgrade the suspension.....tents suck, so get a roof top tent. You can't have that without a roof rack or bed rack, oh yea a frig. would be nice and some extra lights and light bars, but NO MORE.....oh wait forgot the air compressor and sliders. Heck I'm in it this far, so "might as well" order skid plates, front and rear bumpers.....but NO MORE.....well Toyota paint is known to be thin, so "might as well" wrap it in vinyl.......sheesh wish I'd just stayed with the camel.....but I might as well buy a winch and a RedArc battery mgmt. system. (divorce now inevitable) and possibly jail time because now I can't afford child support......wish I'd just kept the canteen/jerky/mule set up.

KZfaq is a business so I (kind of) get why channels do it but for a regular guy/gal, spending $117k to go camping is not a viable or even sensible option unless you got all the bases covered in life and got extra cash on hand. Taking out a loan to buy all this is a horrible idea considering the terrible resale value. I'm still a solid follower if the channel because I learn of new places to go. As for gear, the new stuff is unobtainium and your older videos are more usable to me.

No, because no warranty can be blanket voided by a single modification. Why in the world would you omit labor & tax? I grant that you may not have paid the labor and so it might be hard to calculate, but for the numbers to be meaningful to someone who’s not getting comped, they’re necessary.
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland Жыл бұрын
Because your labor rates, delivery, and tax are going to be very different depending on where you live and the shop you go to or if you do it yourself. The electrical system, for example, cost me nothing to install because I did it myself. The next person might spend $1,500 having someone do that same install. Another example is the Habitat: I paid $0 in tax in Oregon, but if I’d bought it in Arizona I’d have paid around $1,500 in tax.
