Super here, 20 years in. We definitely can bring in a good salary. Its really up to you. I started in base building. There are a bunch if different segments to the Superintendent role commercially. Some do interiors o ly, some do base building only, healthcare, upscale law offices only. Really depends on the company you choose to be with. Bigger jobs typically means bigger pay. Once you get in a niche. Say like Data Centers are a big deal here in Northern Virginia. Catch my drift? Goodluck all.

I worked with a guy once who was a Super for wind farms, out in the regions. His sites were spread out over hundreds of kilometers and very little cell phone reception let alone internet connections. So this guy was almost solely responsible for everything with sporadic backup from the office. His base salary was $300k. That's more than some VPs make.

I like all of your videos , that’s a rare to find something decent , I am a PM transferring to GM in Mechanical / HVAC. I also learned a lot depends on location. Like in Orlando , those 200x would be very unusual , may be for an executive PM. Overall the industry need the kind of training you are proposing, a lot of old and grumpy , Rude Supers the field , don’t know how to sequence project properly and then just crackin whips on subcontractors. Thanks man keep up good content !

I absolutely agree with you there’s a lot of money to be made in the construction superintendent area. I took my 20 years of electrical experience and transition that into construction superintendent and I’m glad I did love the electrical trade very important, but an overall superintendent to me was more fulfilling, and I make more money.

That’s good to hear. I’m currently 15 years in electrical. I became an electrical project manager a year ago but looking to switch to GC assistant superintendent. I was born into construction my dad is a superintendent I started out as a labor while in high school then transitioned into a carpenter but 5 years later switched to electrician then a Forman and now a project manager. But really looking into switching to general contractor super like my dad

Jason, love the content and great that you are out there helping people. I've been a super for 35 years and next week I start a job with a small company as Director of Operations, surley the biggest challenge of my career. I agree with everything I have watched in several of your videos and your book Elevating Senior Superintendents but I do have a comment. All I have seen so far seems to be geared to the very large companies and working on mega projects. A lot of your content can be scaled to smaller companies but it still seems there is a large segment, possibly the largest segment of the industry is being overlooked, by everyone. That is the smaller and medium sized companies. Companies that do projects under $50m. There are tons of these companies out there and they have tons of people that need help elevating themselves and their performance. For instance the company I'm going to, at this time the largest project is $3m even though they have done up to $25m in the past. They have 8 supers on payroll and want and plan to grow and honestly the supers are hurting, I'm talking 30 year guys that struggle with the basics. I don't want to clean house, I would prefer traing them up and expanding on them as needed. How about some content to help these smaller companies grow good folks. Thanks and please don't stop what you're doing.

Great video, personally I feel like the kid in the example of the video is in part what is wrong with Construction. I’m of the belief that the best managers have had experience themselves. Which was the case for myself. I started on my tools as an apprentice making $15/hr. Made it to foreman in 5 years, GF in 7 years, and Superintendent in 8 years making $150k and up. In 10 years went from dumb apprentice to Superintendent with no college. And I’m on the lookout to move to bigger projects and higher pay as Superintendent currently! If anyone has any good recommendations!

so going through 3 1/2 years of college (even though I have been in the field for 4 years and still counting) is still wrong to do? my health wont let me work 12+ years of doing the same structural ironwork forever. plus i dont see any major company just hiring you as a gc super with only field experience in your resume. taking the long route doesnt always work for everyone and college is probably the healthiest way for some people.

Do you have any programs that could help myself grow as a construction business owner? Currently year one 350 K revenue primarily residential. I want to start breaking into commercial, and I really want to learn and grow as much as I can

Hi! 👋🏻 I have a question.. maybe someone here can help me. what’s the difference between superintendent and construction manager? I think I work as a construction manager in Argentina (as is it traduced from spanish), but I don’t know if superintendent it’s the same position. The activities seems too similar between those 2.
@jasonwilliamschroeder

Typically construction managers are PMs in the USA. And site managers or foremen are Supers.

Curious what kind of hours and travel requirements these superintendents are having to do to get that money. If you are away from your family or stressed out from all the hours is it worth it compared to just learning a skilled trade.

I am positive this depending on the market right? The current market I am in doesn't support this kind of pay for a Superintendent.

Hey man, I'm currently working as a Electrical Tech in TX but I want to go college for an Associates in "Construction Business Management". Would you say an Associates in CBM is viable and worth it to get into the construction management field? Or would it be really hard to find a job, since what I've researched Construction Companies favor BS degrees in CBM.
