I met a guy that had a commercial dive lobster license and would also have a lobster food truck. So instead of selling his lobster to a wholesaler for 6-9 dollars he was selling lobster rolls for 16 dollars and would make 20k a week for the season

My first year I grossed 100k at 65% profit. Expenses depend on the gig. Different gigs require different payroll. At the end of the year I walked away with 65k. I worked 30 hours a week...on average. Hope that helps. P.S. coffee trucks are better thab food trucks :)

@Old Man hendo i think that sometimes that is true. but other times i think people know just how hard it was to get where they are and know most people dont want to deal with what they have dealt with. i own a barbershop and when up and coming barbers question me about business it is definitely hard to give straight answers because its so double edged. you love it but it is very very hard to start a business and run it till it is consistently profitable.

I work for the 2nd busiest food truck in Columbus and our busiest day was at Columbus Art fest we did 12,000$... & that was on a Saturday, Friday we did 9000$ and Sunday we did 6000$.... but the thing is that is w/captain and a 4 man team(-600$) to pay employees,(-300) food cost,(-700)water fill/dump + electric... all that money is great but these damn things break all the time...these broke on us (-10,000) cummins diesel generator,(-350) flat tire and a highway repair,(-200) food waste from fridge compressor going out, storage alone cost (-3300)a month for water electric and a commercial fridge+freezer running constantly... if your going to start a food truck business work on one for 6 months b4 even thinking about throwing money into a project !!! Trust me you dedicate your life and money to the truck

Im part owner of a food truck. And ya you have your good days where you do a couple of thousand in sales (not profit). @@capcap7456 So I own the truck with my dad and my brother. As of right now I'm the only one who is doing it full time, which is tough because I used to make more money working construction, and I could go back to that anytime I want. We haven't been in business for a full year yet either though, so I want to give 2019 a full go to see if we can find a location that works for us. I personally enjoy it. It is a lot of work, and it can be tough, but it is a cool job, and you are working for yourself. We work at breweries a lot. Where else do you get to work and drink at the sometime lol. As far as the money goes though, my goal for the year is to have the truck working 6-7 days a week and bring in over $100,000 in sales. If we can do that then imo its gunna be worth it. If not then I'll prob go back to working construction and do it as a side hustle on the weekends. Festivals and parties pay really well, compared to the daily work site/brewery jobs, because its guaranteed money, and you can factor expenses into the cost.

@@capcap7456 That sounds awesome! I encourage you to do it. And the fact that you have a friend who is committed and doing it with you will definitely help. Don't listen to the guys who say the market is over saturated. We were getting offers to work events the 1st month we opened. There is a learning curve though, so you've gotta be ready to have some bad days. But you guys will iron out all the kinks within the first year. Stay positive and work hard and you can make a career out of it. When you take servsafe, you should ask your instructor a lot of questions and take down their e-mail. Health Inspections and Permitting can be tricky, and there is really no handbook to tell you what you need to pass in inspection. It is a town by town thing. The servsafe instructor should have a lot of knowledge about the local inspections and help you prepare.

Cost of the truck and taxes on it are far less than on "brick and mortar" real estate restaurant. And they don't have to supply chairs, tables, waiters/waitresses. buss-boys... Just trash cans if they feel like being responsible. They can undercut REAL restaurants and still make money. Plus its harder to track their sales so they can easily get away with not reporting it all for sales tax and IRS.

Just seen a food truck sell a rice bowl with store bought boneless chicken pieces with some sht sauce for $13.50 plus tax and tip? LMAO! Also what these guys are saying they make is completely false.
