From a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, thank you so much for your content! I deeply appreciate your commitment to academic neutrality so that we can learn about each others' respective walks with Christ fairly. Regardless of whether you personally consider Latter-day Saints to be saved Christians or not, I would love it if you could do a full video on us. I would love it if those outside of our church had an accurate perspective on our more esoteric beliefs so as to dispel some of the myths about us, but more than anything I would love it if you could show that our essential beliefs about salvation (faith, repentance, baptism) are essentially the same as those of many if not most other Christians. There are also a number of beliefs held by lay members of the Church that aren't actually taught by the Church (e.g., salvation by works instead of grace; see 2 Nephi 2:8, Mosiah 2:21, Mosiah 16:13), and it would be great if you could dispel those misconceptions too.

@adamkotter6174 8 ай бұрын
@@christiansOnAMission7 I'm sure they'd love to talk with you, even if it's just so that we can learn more about each other. Just remember that we have different epistemological axioms, so the missionaries will teach you things that are not necessarily found in the Bible. You might also ask them for passages from the Book of Mormon about Jesus. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how powerfully the Book of Mormon testifies about the divinity of Christ and our fundamental reliance upon Him for every good thing, even if you don't agree with everything else taught in the Book of Mormon.
@00Fisher00
@00Fisher00 8 ай бұрын
@@christiansOnAMission7 I wouldn't worry about "conversion", but it would be good to converse with them with an open heart. As to the Bible being sufficient, I'd suggest that passages from the Bible itself suggest that it's good when God gives us more of His word. For example, Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:16 that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness". How would you react if missing books of scripture, mentioned in the Bible, were found? There are the book of Jasher (Josh. 10:13; 2 Sam. 1:18), the book of Gad the seer (1 Chr. 29:29), the book of Nathan the prophet (1 Chr. 29:29; 2 Chr. 9:29), the book of Jehu (2 Chr. 20:34), an epistle of Paul to the Corinthians before 1 Corinthians (1 Cor. 5:9), an epistle to the Church at Laodicea (Col. 4:16), and others; if these books came to light, would you not be interested in them? What is important to consider is whether a writing truly is from God and is true scripture, because of course if it is, any gift from God is good and we should make use of it. Ponder that as you speak with the missionaries.

@@mdcarsonYou're not being a good advertisement there and coming off a bit Scientological towards folk who leave the LDS. The evidence points towards most people who leave, leaving it alone entirely. I know a number of people who used to be LDS who have nothing to do with it whatsoever and never interact with or talk about it. I have also met quite a few people you would never know were ex-LDS because it is not part of their lives unless they have family who are still active.

If you didn’t get at least 90%, do not make claims about what you think you know about Mormonism, especially directed towards actual Latter-day Saints. This is basic stuff, if you don’t know this, you don’t know much, and most of what you do know is probably wrong. In conversations with Latter-day Saints, listen and ask them to explain their beliefs, and do not make assumptions.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to grow. Membership statistics are published regularly, but they don't indicate how active people are in their faith. As mentioned above, the number of temples in operation are one indicator, because they take money and time from members to operate, and temples are still being built. We've recently had many announcements of new temple locations.

What I've found is that some items come up quite frequently in them that I'm aware of (e.g. Book of Abraham, Emma, Three Heavens) while more everyday articles of the Mormon faith rarely do. So my knowledge is fairly in-depth in some areas and practically non-existent in others. I could tell you much more about the historical controversy of the Book of Abraham than its content, for example. Would love to see an episode or two addressing Mormon doctrine without the apologetic content.

@cjextreme To be honest, I was less concerned about learning about the subject itself than why people left, the problems they had with it, and the apologetic responses. I've listened to and read some Mormon apologetics, but those also don't tend to focus on the daily life aspects. For me it's been a useful case study to see people's problems with a foreign belief to reflect on my own beliefs, would their problems with Mormonism hold for my beliefs, etc. Kind of like watching thieves break into someone else's house to reflect if mine has the same security problems, and how to address them. It's just that I've examined this particular case study enough as a security consideration that I feel I should know more about it beyond the security issues.

7 /25 IDK much about Mormonism, other than their history. Smith wrote the Book of Mormon, kicked out of NY. Tried to build Zion in Unnova (or Nauvoo?), killed. Brigham Young led the Mormons to the Salt Lake, became Governor of Utah, started the Mormon war, lost, lost position, died, and sanctified. They also create genealogy websites(easy to tell with the Guy of Nice 1205-1300, baptised 1998, and the login as a LDS member).

Depends on your standard of measurement. Mormons are definitely Christians, but they reject a lot of the philosophical framework that Nicene Christianity and Islam share, such as the focus on Classical Theism which is derived from Greek Platonism. Latter-day Saints are much more Hebrew than Greek in their philosophy.

@@KnuttyEntertainment Hebrews? I really don't see it. Care to elaborate? "Mormons are definitely Christians" What definition of christian are you using here?
@KnuttyEntertainment
@KnuttyEntertainment 7 ай бұрын
@@kylejacobson9587 The difference between Greek and Hebrew philosophy and worldview is a pretty large and complicated topic. For now just know that Latter-day Saints reject Greek Platonism. If you don’t know the influence of middle platonism on early Christian theology, then anything else I could say wouldn’t mean much. And my definition of Christian is pretty simple: “disciple of Jesus the Christ; a person who lives by the teachings of Jesus and worships the Christian God.” The word Christian comes from Christening. The first Christians entered covenant with Jesus by being Christened (ritually anointed) in his name, so Christian literally means “anointed people.” Latter-day Saints believe in living the teachings of Christ and other prophets and apostles as found in the Bible. They enter covenant with God through both baptism and anointing. They believe in Christ’s atonement and resurrection, they believe in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. etc. etc. The reason most people don’t consider Latter-day Saints Christians is because they aren’t Nicene, they don’t accept the ecumenical creeds that were developed in the 4th century. Latter-day Saints don’t accept them because they don’t believe anyone at the councils was inspired or had proper authority, and rather that the councils were the result of the influence of Greek philosophy rather than the teachings of Christ and the apostles from centuries prior (and they’re kinda right about that). Either that, or a person could believe Latter-day Saints are not Christians just because they’re bigoted against Mormons, which is equally likely.
