It can be as expensive or cheap as you want it to be. Keep in mind you are trying to recreate an acritical delicate natural habitat in a very small amount of water.
For nano tanks I would say budget 1k in your first year
In this video however we do not cover the ongoing costs of maintaining a salt water aquarium.
This video is just covering the cost of hardware
We break it down into 3 different sizes
Nano 10-20 gallons
Mid size 50-70 gallons
Larger aquariums 100-120 gallons

The only cost you possibly forgot to mention is to buy a rodi system when you setup more than a nano tank. It's a necessity when you keep a bigger tank. Plus ato to maintain stability. Either way great video!

I agree with this statement. Most valuable piece in our tanks is the live rock which needs its sweet time to mature..

Your corals does seem less expensive than what I usually see here. I can see that you have a lot more variety than my LFS. No matter what, you are about right give or take a 100 bucks.

I love my Nuvo Fusion 20, its been a great learning experience for a first time saltwater tank. My setup is on the high end in terms of equipment, but I don't regret it. Something else people may not consider is upkeep of the size of tank you have.

I really appreciate this video! I have a 75g tank and I was think about doing a reef set up but now I honestly think I’ll keep it fresh water and do a small one like the one you suggest to start out!

Just got back into the SE side of the hobby... the Fluval is great, just set one up for my daughter in late March.... also a 25g QT tank and a 40 Breeder for me... The Fluval is OK for a NANO, if you're OK with only what will live in a tiny tank...ours has 2 clownfish and a royal gramma... and we plan for the foreseeable future to only stock the kinds of corals that will thrive under the stock lighting. For my 40Breeder I'm working with a Current USA light , and debating adding another, or the 3rd gen Fluval Marine strip with Bluetooth... If you don't go with the Fluval, a 20g or 29g standard tank with good HOB filtration and plenty of circulation is totally a great way to start... Best of luck to ya...

I have a basic 90 gallon tank with a custom built stand, a 29 gallon sump/fuge I designed and built myself, 2 AI Hydra 52's with a wifi controller, my workhorse bubble magus skimmer, live rock, sand, coral, fish Md everything else, I'm in just under 4 grand.

Great video. It is nice to see you promoting a smaller tank to start. People were trying to talk me into something bigger because I am saltwater newbie. More forgiving with the mistakes I will make etc. (and those people are not wrong). Still, my thoughts were just like you mentioned, if after 6 months to a year, I am doing OK with a small tank, and don't mind the maintenance, I can then get into something bigger. Either sell what I got or set it up as a quarantine tank.

I started with a 40 but moved to 75 immediately bec of a leak in the 40. It's been almost a year with the 75 and it's obvious that its way to small. I don't even have tangs. Just clean up crew and gobies. 75 is still not enough room for them and I hate it..... My opinion I think 75 is the best to start with. I have a ten gallon I keep new fish and zoas frags in. I find myself maintaining that more then my 75.

Reefing can be expensive, but it definitely doesn't need to be, depending on how much extra time and DIY you want to put into it. Kijiji is your friend for setting up your first tank if you don't want to dive straight into the $$$ stuff. People are constantly upgrading, moving, or in some situation where they need to take down a tank. If you're industrious you can price and piece together a tank over time, or if someone is selling their full system you're pretty much set, and you already know it will work for you.

I live in indonesia and the average coral price like euphyllia, chalice, zoas was around 10-15 bucks and the cheapest i've bought was maybe 2 bucks

@@crispybirchbeer5317 lol... one time i found a big chunk size acropora around the size of my hand and when i ask the seller it was only 75.000 rupiah or around 5 dollar but the color was so beautiful red... even tho i couldn't afford it at that time and i don't wanna risk it cuz my tank was kinda low tech with DIY led lamp... but i was happy with my tank setup with only softies and some lps

Nice video showing some nice equipment and options... just set up a Fluval in March for my daughter, seems to he a good tank so far... Wish we had a store like yours in our area. Please advise, what is your take on Fluval Marine 3.0 light strip, or the Current USA stuff...? I really don't like or want a pendant type light 16-24" above the tank... HOB filter recommendations, or thought on Marine Pure ceramic media?

I'm in the 10 to 15k range for my reefer 250 and only just now started to buy coral and fish 😅 That said. It's full on royal exclusiv, 2x coralcare v2s, nero 5s and a full option ghl setup

Just an example, I have an EVO 13.5 with nearly everything upgraded and not even the best money can buy. Between my coral, fish, chemicals, water, food, maintenance, gear, ect, I'm easily at $2k+. That's a 13.5 tank folks! I'm upgrading to a 55 gal tank and keeping my 13.5 as a recovery/frag tank in the next month. BTW, I have 4 fish; 2 clowns, 1 Firefish and 1 Purple Dottyback. That's the max I will put in this size.

1800ish with equipment/test kits/supplies (i have enough supplements, salt and food to last many years to come) and rodi system for my IM 14 long nano tank in Canada; built my own stand. this is a mid range tank with an ai prime, ato, mini internal skimmer and external chaeto reactor. That does not include all the livestock :D

Yeah EXPENSIVE...It's a lot of work to keep a reef tank up as well.... Yes its expensive, but it's the getting started part that's expensive after that it's constant work. I love it. Literally wanted to quit a handful of times and smash my tank but I'm glad I never gave up and kept spending more and more money. Threw all the bull crap I love the hobby😁

There is no all in one answer for how much a reef tank costs. It could be a DIY system for $100 in materials. Or a $100,000 self sustainable build into the wall with a walk in sump room. Sky's the limit. I'm personally around the $10,000 range with the Red Sea Reef System and Entire Neptune System accessories rocks and corals.

sicce power head is junk. believe me if you want a good long life power head go a bit more expensive no jebao from aliexpress or something and good lighting is a must! and instead of 1 bag of sand go for 2 if the sand is not thick enough there are sertain fish that sleep in the sand so if there is not enough they keep digging till they hit glass and then you got a bald spot in your tank and nobody whants that. Also go for the refractometer the plastic salt meter is always off!! PLS do not use the plastic one!
