Interesting in becoming a SCUBA diver but wondering how much it costs? I'll give you a good idea what you'll spend.

Paid 300 for the entire padi open water course; and that was for two, my dad and I. We also had to pay 70 each for materials though (book and forms to fill out for padi), so in total 440, but still a great price. The trick: Groupon.

Blu ❶ why do you say not worth it? Not worth it as in you don’t like scuba diving and it was a waste of money or another reason?
@Johnyboyrofl6 жыл бұрын
Did my PADI elearning course online, roughly 160$. The open water diver course itself was around 450$. Course completed in 3 days landing at 610$ in total. This was done at a local dive shop in Kos, Greece and not in the US.
@CaseyKlaus6 жыл бұрын
How is the diving in Greece? What is your favorite thing to dive in the area? There are a lot of variables to the total cost. I was hoping to give a general idea and it sounds that for you, I overestimated which should make you happy. :) Thanks for the comment and dive safe. Do you have any videos of your underwater adventures?

I'm from muskegon, Michigan and have been thinking this would be a fun hobbie. And to be honest I have a slight fear of water so I figured this would be a good way to get over it. Thanks for letting me know it won't be to terribly expensive.

Glad to help. Lake Michigan has some very cool wrecks. It’s cold, but there are solutions to that. Wreck diving is probably my favorite type of diving. Let me know if you end up getting certified. Cheers.

@CaseyKlaus6 жыл бұрын
Toucan Dive is a great dive shop. Part dive shop; part dive club. They do multiple trips every year and most weekends you can find a fellow Toucan-er diving somewhere in the area. Friendly people. Great training. Good times had by all....what more could you want. Cheers.

Great video Casey. I'm wondering if I should start diving as a hobby because I have an interest in it and need to look at financial feasability. This video helps with laying the groundwork
@CaseyKlaus4 жыл бұрын
Glad this helped. IMHO I'd contact your local dive shop and check into a "Discover SCUBA" class. That class will teach you some basics and let you dive around in a pool with closely supervision. It's a great way to get a taste with minimal time and cost commitment. If you like it, get certified and from there you can decide on gear purchases. Like many hobbies, diving can get expensive. But it's a lot of fun and if it's your thing, you'll have a great time.

Paid over the equivalent of over 605 dollars and PADI won't issue cards after I complained of sexual harassment and poor training to padi corporate. Took both OWD and AOWD. Passed both classes according to instructor and issued paper cards and PIC envelopes.

I just paid 169.99 for my open water course and did it online. Then went and bought a wetsuit, mask, snorkel, BCD, regs, and tanks. And didn’t pay for my certification because my dad is an instructor lol. But in all honesty a comfortable range is about 1500-1700 dollars
@CaseyKlaus6 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of variables. For the area I live in, that sounds a bit high. But there are a lot of variables. Thanks for the comment and enjoy diving with your dad. Cheers.
@seikibrian86416 жыл бұрын
"But in all honesty a comfortable range is about 1500-1700 dollars" It's easy to get certified for far less than $1500; many people who don't plan to dive frequently will only buy fins, mask, and snorkel, and will rent everything else as needed. Even if they buy their own BCD and wetsuit, they may rent tanks. Of course it's also easy to spend more. For example, I bought a custom-made 7mm two-piece wetsuit with titanium cold-water lining, top-of-the-line Aqua~Lung Legend Supreme regulator, SeaQuest Pro QD i3 BCD, Suunto air-integrated dive computer...you get the idea. (Yeah, I went overboard, so to speak, especially given my modest income, but I wanted the best gear I could afford.)
@CaseyKlaus6 жыл бұрын
Good equipment is worth the investment. And there's always more. That's why we go to work instead of just diving all day. Cheers.

Nice vid and I was just wondering do you have to buy the oxygen tank and all of the technical equipment.👌🏻
@CaseyKlaus4 жыл бұрын
No. The dive shop will rent you (or include in the class price) most of the gear. Most shops will require you to purchase your own mask, snorkel, and fins and depending on the fins you choose, you may also need to purchase water shoes to wear with them. I hope you give SCUBA a try if you're interested. It's a great way to have some adventures and fun, make new friends, and find a release from the busy/stressful life many live. Cheers.

Hey mate, do you have to be a certain age to get into diving? I live in NZ and I'm only 17 but I'm really interested in getting into it!
@CaseyKlaus4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if local laws may vary, but to the best of my knowledge, you are old enough to get certified by any training agency. I believe the minimum age is 12. Call you local dive shop and get started! It's fun, adventurous, and a great way to spend your free time (and dollars). Cheers.

I know this is an older video, but I thought id try my question. Do scuba stores offer package deals? If so, would it only be certain brands or items? Im getting ready to lay out $3-4k in gear. Is there wiggle room for them in cost?
@CaseyKlaus Жыл бұрын
Many SCUBA shops will offer package deals. Those deals are typically for one brand of gear and can be a good deal. However, I suggest you do your research and make sure you get the right gear for you (what fits you best, what meets the needs for the type of diving you'll be doing [salt/fresh, warm/cold], what will meet the needs of your future diving plans) or you'll end up buying again. Give thought to what you're doing now and what you'd like to be diving in the future and then do your best to buy right the first time. But I think you'll like owning your own gear compared to renting and wish you great adventures underwater. Dive safe.

How long does it take to get open water certified?
@CaseyKlaus3 жыл бұрын
Largely depends on you. You'll have some online material and tests to take and then a little classroom, pool, and open water dives. The online portion is all on you, the classroom, pool, and open water dives are often done in two weekends. Cheers.
