How Much Does it Actually Cost to Build a 4Runner. I price out all of the parts that you'll need to build out your 4runner for overlanding offroading or just taking it camping. The prices of all the parts can vary so I tried to include a great range.
Also find out how much I've spent on my 4runner!

Find out at the end of the video how much I’ve spent. I have dropped some links to products I have used or currently used. The price does not include labor or interior accessories other than drawers.

This video was so perfect for me. No silly editing, no nauseating music, no cheesy wacky personality. Simple, straight to the point and honest (with the prices) great stuff man 👍🏽

Kinda decided a while ago that I was somewhat done with music in my videos, very minimal music at most. I think other KZfaqrs are starting to do the same. I leave the cheesy personality for real life lol.

It can get way higher than what I spent; however these trucks are very capable in their own. You can leave it stock and buy some bins for storage and a $50 ground tent and do just about the same stuff.

I have avoided a rear bumper because I don’t want to add that much weight and trying to fit swing outs in my garage would be cumbersome. To partially shield the rear plastic, when I go off road I install a hitch skid with step. It helps protect the rear when coming off steep surfaces. Since I sleep in the back, it gives me a decent step to get in.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Жыл бұрын
That’s a pretty good idea. My rear hitch shackle save my bumper on Finn’s and things in Moab once. I slid down on that instead of the plastic bumper.

They aren’t bad they just aren’t really necessary unless you need it for storage.

Cheap modifications aren’t necessarily cheap, just cheaper than going all out. And definitely cheaper than getting a off-road trailer. I said for my 2022 that I wouldn’t spend more than 10 K, and I’ve already exceeded that by at least 50%. It’s not a cheap hobby, but it is worth it if you use it. All in all, I’m happy with the choices I’ve ended up with although I wish I got it right the first time as opposed to wasting probably a few hundred dollars. Thanks for sharing your build.

You have a great setup. Well planned build. I was only planning on having my 2014 Trail 4Runner 2 years..Now that the new 6th gen is a couple years away, I'm getting a bit more serious. OME 3" lift 285/70/17 Baja Boss AT's, Optima dual batteries with Redarc controller, Iceco fridge, Badlands winch on a hitch mount, coms, lights, ARB awning with room attachment, 100 watt solar panel, roof rails on the stock rack and SSO rock sliders. I'm pretty happy with how everything is working so far. Have done almost all the work myself so labor was free (except tires). Only spent about $8K so far. Did not add bumpers or a large roof rack and just use bins and a Yakima roof box for storage. Once we get the Gen 6 we may go a bit upscale on the mods...
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Жыл бұрын
That sounds like a really nice set up. On my next build I’m for sure going easier on the mods. Hoping just bumper, tent, a few lights and lift/tires.

My ditch lights are a spot/flood combo from harbor freight. They were like $90. They work great, I’ve had them on for 2 years and the lenses haven’t clouded or anything

Nice! I love harbor freight stuff! I’ve only had a few issues with things in the past and most of it was power tool related.

Great video - I believe you are also in the Denver area. Could you recommend a good shop that could sell / install a winch bumper. I have a 2023 4Runner. I’m fairly new to the area. Thanks and keep up the good videos

I did forget to mention that. I have an older one so mine weren’t LED. I think 2020 and on had them but maybe as early as 2019 had them.

Sorry, I might have missed it, did you re-gear? If so, what gear ratio did you install? If not, how is does it drive without re-gearing and carrying all of the load? Where do you carry your spare tire?
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Жыл бұрын
It’s an absolute dog because I didn’t regear. Right now I’m unfortunately running a 285/70/17 spare because my rear bumper fell through after I had already installed the bigger tires. It’s not the ideal set up there but it’ll get there eventually. If I made more off KZfaq I would address those problems sooner but they are the weak points on my build for sure.

Why did you go from Baja to DD? 🤔
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Жыл бұрын
They are both great companies but I wanted the classic pods on the roof rack look and couldn’t afford the options that baja had. DD and Baja both make great lights DD just makes them in my price range.
@HotRod-wv4vm

The problem with the pods is that you can’t run your vehicle through the car wash 🧼 unless you are able to disconnect them

True. Fun fact I’ve never once run this car or any car I’ve owned through drive through car wash. I always do those self spray down car washes. Even back in the day when I daily drive a Corolla I didn’t do a drive through car wash.
