Be kind, be open and read body language. In the case of Central America, Spanish isn’t as foreign as Chinese or Arabic, so it’ll probably work out. Just don’t try to make full scholastic sentences with people in the street after studying the dictionary a bit 😂 Keywords are better.

I'm from Costa Rica and if you can you should definitely visit Manuel Antonio in Puntarenas, all the beaches you can in Guanacaste and if your going to the central part of the country you could go to the Poás Volcano o the Irazú Volcano (there's also a really pretty forest named Prusia near Irazú). Hope you enjoy your trip!

I'm costarican I recommend you to go to Puerto Viejo (limon) is on the Caribbean and it's way more cheaper than the other coast provinces. Once you get there, make sure to rent a bike and go all the way to manzanillo, make a stop in every single beach. That's the best way to explore the south Caribbean of Costa Rica:)

I backpacked through europe and south america for 6 months and one thing that just made me feel a lot more comfortable was traveling with a lock - whenever I stayed in group dorms in hostels I would keep all my valuables locked into a locker or cabinet which just made me stress less about having my stuff stolen! I also kept my wallet in my front pocket in latin america, because I've had a few friends who got pick pocketed.

I hitchhiked/ bused all the way from Panama to Florida on a $20/day budget. Would definitely recommend Lexi's larger budget. To stay as cheap as I did, and move as often, meant cutting allooott of corners. Mostly camping in the woods to save on accommodation. 100% worth it though. Amazing, and under explored, area of the world.

Recently came back from a 4 months trip in South America, where I visited Brazil, Peru, Ecudaor (Galapagos as well but that's a totally different experience) and Colombia. I totally agree with your points. Eating was mostly done in local resturants which cost very little money - pro tip about that: if you happen to travel to these places, there is sometimes what's called "menu del dia", menu of the day, which composes usually a soup, a meal and juice for as little as 2 dollars. Buses are a MUST. I took three consecutive buses from Huaraz, Peru, to Montanita, Ecudaor (appx 9 hours each), as flying there would've meant spending 5 times more, and I really enjoyed the rides. Hostels are great to save money and usually when I was with friends we would sometimes split a private room for the two/three of us as this was almost the same cost at a dorms room but with extra privacy. I've also been to Costa Rica with my girlfriend but as you can imagine we allowed ourselves (mainly I didn't have a choice lol) to be more luxurious. Right now I'm planning my trip to Panama and Guatemala, so it's a perfect time for the release of this video! Great work, enjoying your content and safe travels everyone!

I went backpacking with a friend in El Salvador this past summer (who is also a national) and it is insanely cheap there! Public transportation was a life saver! I was only paying anywhere from 20-40 cents for bus rides in San Salvador and surrounding areas. Also buying a cheap SIM card is a great idea. You can get a few gigabytes of data for only a couple of dollars and they have street vendors selling them everywhere

Im from Honduras originally, if you are traveling inside a city just looking around, I’d recommend to take a taxi, they are usually cheap (for us that live in usa at least, around $5 a trip) now be mindful that some taxi drivers will charge a lot more if they can tell you are a foreigner but don’t let them fool you, besides that taxi drivers are usually nice. Traveling by bus inside a city (from the mall to park for example) can be quite the experience and might even be fun for some but it can also be dangerous, so take that into consideration.

I wonder if 40$ would be enough? I mean, sure if all your budget goes towards the hostel, street food and eventual transportation. If you want to visit certain exhibits like museums, monuments etc, and maybe try a fancy restourant that is well recommended, it might price up quite a bit. I played it safe and decided on a budget of 80$ per day (plane ticket not included). It sounds a lot but in the end I still probably spent around 40$ and had a lot left over. And i agree, souverniers are really not worth buying until the very end of your trip, when you see how much money is left and even then if you really want it. I usually just buy fridge magnets or postcards just to have something to remind me where I've been :) But all in all, backpacking and hostels can definitely get you a WAY better experience in meeting people, learning of the culture among locals, experiencing fun adventures that you can't plan ahead and most importantly, not being a couch potato in a fancy hostel.

@@user-fp3lf8jz8y Good to hear! MY suggestions: go to Playa El Zonte (lot of surfers here but as a nonsurfer I still like that beach a lot), hike the Volcan de Santa Ana, visit El Centro Histórico de San Salvador, try the pupusas at El Peche Cosme, take a short boat ride at Lago de Suchitlán and also go to El Lago de Coatepeque (more known that Suchitlán), if you're really adventurous you could also go to El Mirador Espíritu de la Montaña. There's an option to camp there but beware that this place is still in construction. When I went there with my friends on January 2019 there was no electricity, but we camped there and got breath taking views the next morning as the sun came out (if you're interested in this look up Volcan de Conchagua in Trip Advisor, there is valuable advice there). Also check out Portezuelo, Plaza Volcan, Comasagua, El Tunco,... and for more ideas I recommend that if you have instagram look up "#elsalvadorimpresionante" or "elsalvadorimpressive" and you'll find many more cool places to visit! Good luck on your trip :)

I'm currently editing and releasing small videos of my trip, go check'em out and feel free to ask me questions I haven't done Belize and El Salvador but I did Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama in the past 4-5 months.

As someone who has family in Honduras and Costa Rica, I would advise to stay where there are many tourists just for safety. There are lots of local news of tourists that veer off on their own at odd hours of the day that go either missing or land on the news for not being cautious. It is sad because we want to enjoy but there are many thugs and gang members that prey for careless wanderers. I enjoy my time when I am visiting family but we are ALWAYS smart about WHERE to go and WHEN.
