Is it cheaper to sew your own clothes? Short answer - it's complicated! You can spend nothing, or you can spend hundreds or even thousands. The beauty in that is that YOU get to determine how much it costs to make your clothes.

I spend an arm and a leg on patterns and material but I find that sewing has made me pickier about what I buy , so since I never buy new clothes now or very rarely I actually save money!

It's funny how "shopping" for clothes in a store isn't enjoyable anymore, isn't it?

@@seasonallyproductive I also am finding this! i cant look at anything in a store without being disgusted with the sloppy stitching or thinking about how much better and more unique the garment would look if i just made it myself!! only thing is... it takes longer and more effort whenever you want something new if you make it yourself - but stops impulse buying so... :)

I'm a quilter who is transitioning to garment sewing as a beginner. I find every one of your tutorials invaluable. I'm learning so incredibly much from you and a couple of other youtube ladies. THANK YOU for sharing your expertise and wisdom with the rest of us.

@@seasonallyproductive Your skills drew me in. Your personality keeps me watching. Question: I have a massive stock of quilting cottons. I've found a few patterns I can use them for, but wonder if I can also use them to stabilize sleeve/neck seams of stretchy knit fabric rather than buying stay tape? So much to learn!

@@melissaorona2834 absolutely! Homemade bias tape is quite simple, just a little time consuming. You can also use woven fabrics to stabilize under snaps and buttons, and in place of interfacing in loads of applications. And thank you so much for your kind comment!

Thanks for being honest about the upfront costs. It may be expensive at first but that's well worth it in the long run. In South Africa good quality clothing and especially good designs are considered too expensive.

Absolutely. Nothing but honesty here! And I agree it's worth it. Many of us believe that!
