In this video, Guardian Safe & Lock Technician Brandon Gonzalez and Company Owner Uriah Ortiz discuss how much it costs to rekey a lock. They also answer the question "Is it cheaper to rekey or replace locks?"
Rekeying a lock means changing the key that operates the lock by replacing the pins inside to fit a new key. This is a fairly standard service that locksmiths offer on everything from house doors and cabinets to safes and vehicle ignition cylinders.

I usually tell customers that changing hardware costs more cause it’ll usually initiate having new stuff keyed alike or to match existing and the labor to remove and install plus the cost of the hardware. Awesome vids! Thanks for sharing😎

I just paid 50.00 per lock (100 per door knob & deadbolt) so 500 to have the whole house done. It seemed pretty high to me

Yes unfortunately it sounds like you’ve been scammed. That is common pricing for scammers. Should have paid a service call around $50-75, rekey per keyhole $10-15, and for keys $2-4 each.

Usually a house rekey is about $100-$300 and the high end is for mansions with 20+ doors.

@@GuardianSafeAndLock In big cities, it's much higher. For years we charged $27.50/cylinder to rekey for residential. Commercial started at $32.50/cylinder. $10-$15 is very, very low. Many locksmiths were charging that 20 years ago!

@@kevinwitt8827 yeah inside major cities id expect it to be much higher we charge $15 minimum for commercial $25 high end and Residential we charge $12.50-$13.50 but we are outside the major city by about 25min
