One more tip: Don't think Europe has the same prices. 1 day in Norway is equal to a week in Poland and 2 weeks in Moldova.

Travel when you're young. Short trips cost more than long ones. There are ways to make money while travelling. Try couchsurfing or switching apartments. Leave your attitude, fears and prejudgements home and learn to live in the moment.

Such a spot on video! My husband and I started traveling full time in December after selling everything we own and quitting our jobs. We spend soooo much less money on the road than we ever did at home. For instance, we currently "live" in Bali, Indonesia and we spend on average a total of $40 usd per day (and yes that includes accommodation, transportation, and food). It's ridiculous how much cheaper our daily budget is in comparison to our budget when we were at home!

The only problem is you wont be earning the salary you did at home while traveling which is the dbl edge sword. You may not be getting any income at all so even thought the cost is cheaper it still evens out. I'm happy to hear you guys made such a daring move and are living life. I don't mean to be a downer its just that always pops up in my head when they say its cheaper to travel around the world than at home.

I’m American, and I started long-term traveling by quitting my retail job to work a seasonal job in Juneau, Alaska for 6 months. It was by far the best time I’ve had in my entire life, thus far. After the Alaskan summer season, I went home for 2 months & earned an au pair visa, and now I’m in Madrid, Spain. Au pairing is definitely a great way to travel bc you earn pocket money and have no bills (you live w/a host family that provides you a private room and all of your meals). The only problem I encountered was a personal one - I missed nature like crazy, and didn’t get along well w/the big city that is Madrid, so I’ll soon volunteer in a hostel that is for rock climbers!

I wish I could do study abroad. My university does offer and I found out too late and since i got a job well I preferred the job that the study abroad. Also, one of the best thing about my job is that we also get to travel. so i love it although we would travel for conferences or training it's still fun as we would sneak away to go sight seeing. I do plan to study abroad for my masters so I will get to visit areas around where i study.

I will be traveling for a couple months starting in November and Im volunteering with Workaway! Which is basically an exchange for accommodation and food. My first stop is Spain and I will be staying with a family teaching their 2 girls English 5 days a week only for a few hours! The rest of the time is mine! I will do this for 5 weeks before I'm off somewhere else. And not dime on accommodation! But this is a completely different way of traveling for sure.

I worked three jobs for 6 months in Denmark and travelled to New Zealand and Australia for 5 months. It's obviously expensive countries too. I'm not into bungy jumping or skydiving, I didn't go out much to drink, but I did everything else I felt like such as horseback riding, rafting etcetera. I stayed in dorm rooms at hostels and cooked most of my food, but then I also had the money to go out for a nice dinner after a hike where I could hardly move my arms or legs afterwards! Before I bought hiking boots, a ticket or my backpack I had about 100.000 Danish kroner, which comes to 15000 dollars. I had a bit of money on the bank account when I got back home, I brought souvenirs home as well. This was only for half a year of travelling but in only expensive countries. I also took a guided bus tour from Darwin to Melbourne etc. which was more expensive than for example travelling by Greyhound bus as I did along the east coast of Australia. I found the airplane ticket really is about 1/10th of the entire budget, after all you pay the same to fly there whether you stay for a week or half a year.

As usual, love the tips! I did a 6 month trip (the plan was a year but I got tired and homesick, so, that was a learning experience too!). I would say I spent not over 3,000 us dollars. Yes, lots of low cost airlines buy also lots of buses (my favorites). I went form Turkey to Morocco including the expensive Switzerland. I do have a couple of tricks: 1) staying sometimes with friends and 2)volunteer jobs trough Workaway, which I loved because I truly got to interact with locals, amazing homemade food, learn a lot and met amazing people closer to your mindset. Most of my meals came from shopping in supermarkets but I do get coffees in lovely places with amazing views. Be driven by enthusiasm, research a lot and be open to the detours......and have fun! :D Those are my tips :)

@@hritishkumar3871 I go very low budget. Spend at least 2 weeks per month volunteering (workway). Lots of night buses, very budget hostels, walk a lot (instead of taking the subway) and a lot of groceries shopping. It takes research and time and a lot of concessions.....but it's doable.

Great ideas! I have one additional option especially if you happen to be an educator. I started doing EF tours with my students. If you get 6 or more paying students signed up, your trip is covered for free. We just got back from a 10 day London/Paris trip and I only paid about $300-400 (just tips, some lunches on my own, and some souvenirs). I vloged the trip (first time vloger warning) if anyone wants to know what its like. two years ago, we did a tour of Germany and the Swill Alps. The nice thing is you get to see lots of the big tourist destinations without paying. You can also accumulate points with EF based on how many students you bring, and you can use those points for trips on your own later.... not to mention you get students hooked on traveling as well :-)

Loved the video! I am ready to do this again - 25 years later (25 year hiatus raising a family) . So here are my long ago experiences that may be worth looking into. I hopped aboard a tall ship as a deck hand and sailed from England to Australia. We stopped in the Madeira Islands, the Canaries, Cape Verde Islands, Brazil, (almost Tristan da Cuna - but the weather was too rough), So. Africa, Mauritius, and finally reaching Australia stopping in Freemantle and then ending up in Sydney. There are still quite a few ships out there (especially out of Australia but some in the US) ) where you can either get paid a stipend or negotiate to work for travel. There are many stops along the way and you may have the opportunity to work for different ships from one place to another. Its a small community of sailors and they all pretty much know each other. My other thought was was considering container ships - sometimes they have space for travelers or at least they used to. Also, Vagabrothers, you totally skipped Africa! There are quite a few non-conflict areas to explore.

Went back home to work again to earn some money. Went to Argentina for 3months to improve my spanish and travelled around SA (bolivia, chile, peru and Argentina) for 35 days. Honestly the best year of my life. I'm so so so happy i did it right after high school because i learned so many things, saw extraordinary landscapes and did things i never imagined i would :) ! I would say go out of tourist season. Places are sometimes still open but nowhere near as busy. Sure you might not get to do everything, but you can take your time if you want. People thought I was weird for example when I went to visit reindeers and huskies in September, but oh well they were super friendly anyway. :) I asked a taxi driver to take me to a place I was staying near Santa Claus Village and at first he thought I was mistaken. Hahaha!

when you have whole year why not take some trains or buses instead of planes? that is much more cheap. and i'm pretty sure you can spen much less than 10k, probably even less than 5k. if you also earn a little in that time, that makes it even more cheap.

According to some people I've been listening and reading about for the past 2 years, in SE Asia, you can go on a month in India for 300$, Nepal and Sri Lanka for 400$ and the rest of it (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos...) for 500-750$ a month. Add up for 13 months (because there is always unexpected expendings), you may do 1 year in SE Asia for +/- 6000$, living well and doing activities P. S. I think 6 months in SE would be enough. Then you should check central america or something, still cheap, and different

Awesome video. A tip I have for fellow travelers is that when a country costs less to live in or travel in, it's easier to blow your budget. It's easy to treat yourself like a king because it's "cheaper here then somewhere else". But all the little additions add up quickly!

You really need to research RTW v buying individual tickets. I saved about £200-400 doing it that way. Also get airmiles via a credit card or when you buy stuff (this is paying for my Bangkok to Tokyo return flight). Finally, hostels are not always cheaper than hotels if you want your own room...compare using tripadvisor or trivago (dont just use one) and dont forget airbnb

don't wanna say that but the travelling and this channel is only for western peoples ... like seriously I m n indian and I can say that if someone come from u.s with 1000$ to india he/she can live a "royal" life in india for about 2 - 3 years. Travelling around the world is a thing for the peoples who have strong currencies in their pocket .
@vagabrothers
@vagabrothers 7 жыл бұрын
+siddhant pandey This is true, the video is written from our perspective as travelers from the west. We try to make the information here as universal as possible, but we also need to make some assumptions about our average audience (most of whom are in the US and Europe) in order to make the video specific enough to be useful. That's why we try to focus on teaching principles, rather than talking in specific numbers: calculating the cost of travel is the same technique, regardless of your currency
