An upgraded intercooler is a very under rated mod on a lot of cars. On my Fabia vRS 1.9TDi with the standard intercooler it was plastic and also a "side mount". On cool days, and when stock it was okay driving normal. But on hot days, if you were ragging it, the intake temps would get really high quite quickly and you lost a lot of power through heat soak. Now it has hard pipes and a single pass slim, but tall FMIC and even with a remap, the intake temps are about 40C cooler when giving it some welly. Just don't go too overboard with the intercooler capacity on small turbo cars, or you'll notice it feeling a bit laggy as it takes longer to pressurise.

Mooches Mayhem If you’re aiming for 500-525 good luck because the gti engine isn’t as built as the golf R engine so the safe limit for a gti would be around 400-450 hp/tq. You would also need to upgrade your HPFP cause your fuel rail pressure drastically decreases when pushing over 350hp and you would probably also need to upgrade your LPFP. You can get a built block from IE for around 5k if you really want to run that 500 safely. That’s primarily the reason I’m staying at around 400hp when I get my turbo

How did you get an APR stage 2 tune on a 2019? APR stopped offering stage 2 tunes- I’m stage 1 HT in my 19 R but I’m going to have to switch to IE in a few months when I go stage 2 because APR doesn’t have anything past stage 1 for that car.

@@gysi_4566 lol this comment didnt age well. gti or rs are safe to around 550hp and limit trq to 400-450 been this way for years. HPFP e85 xl or standard eqt turbo and you can see those numbers without building the block. GTI and R are same engines. R has some better oil passages and other small things, but sadly your information is WAY off.

I also have a mk7.5 in white. I have an intake and I’m about to go stage2. Waiting on my fmic to come in as we speak. I am in Louisiana so the summer heat is a bitch. Did you experience any negative affects with the AC on your car by adding an fmic? I couldn’t get a definitive answer from anyone but I was hoping to add the fmic for an easier install and better cooling, just didn’t want to diminish how the AC works inside the car. There was speculation that adding the fmic as another price in front of the AC condenser could diminish the performance of the HVAC in the car. Just curious if you noticed any change or issues post install with yours.

Just be mindful of applying "higher load" in lower RPMs. Doing that applies more stress on the engine. Be in the appropriate gear/RPM when you apply load and you will last much much longer. Perhaps you already know this, but many really don't. In addition, monitor the IAT2 - which would be on the COLD side (which others have already mentioned).

I wonder if anyone has dropped in a stock Golf R intercooler into a GTI? They are $250-300 instead of the aftermarket intercoolers that are $700+. Perks are OEM fit and they weight about 10 lbs less than an aftermarket intercooler. Downside is they only have 10% more volume whereas aftermarket ones have 60%+ more volume. Could be good for stage 1 or 2 power.

And aftermarket intercooler does not add any horsepower it doesn't make the car any faster the only reason why you upgrade your intercooler is if you are running higher boost in stock and when you do so it creates more heat so upgrading your inner cooler at that time makes sense but on a stock car running stock everything completely waste of money same thing with an air intake the air intakes do absolutely nothing unless you're really pushing some high boost levels and then you have to be tuned to have that modification to take advantage of any horsepower gains that are possible. So if you have heat soak problems on a stock car that's very rare I live in extremely hot weather where I live the warmest in the nation and I've never had heat so problems but if you're on a track and you're modified meaning you have a stage one or stage two tune and you're running into heat soak issues then yeah upgrading the intercooler at that time makes sense.

What if i got stage 1 + downpipe on my twinturbo 3l diesel is it worth getting upgrated intercooler? PLS REPLY I DONT WANNA WASTE MONEY
@eppyz
@eppyz 3 жыл бұрын
@@aranaydar7535 I don't know too much about diesels but with the turbocharged similarities between gas and Diesel whenever boost is increased there's more heat so if you can dissipate that heat you'll have better performance you have to remember that installing or upgrading your intercooler does not necessarily mean more horsepower or torque what the upgraded intercooler does is give more consistent horsepower and torque because heat soak of the intercooler would be less likely to cause power losses. So generally the rule of thumb is if you increase boost you should upgrade your intercooler compensate for the heat that would be expected from increasing the boost now if you're only increasing boost one or two PSI then you probably are okay with your factory intercooler but if you're increasing boost more substantially across the RPM band then you definitely would want to upgrade your inner cooler for consistency throughout your RPM band. I hope this makes sense to you and the purchase of an intercooler is up to you they are expensive and some are kind of tricky to install just depends on the vehicle but if it's something you can do yourself prior to yourself getting tuned you would save a lot of money that way but I would say for stage one I wouldn't bother with an upgraded intercooler but if you go stage 2 I definitely would but that's just my opinion so take that for what it's worth also depends on your climate and driving style.

I have a GLI MK 7 Build EQT Stage 1 91 OCT and am looking into IC's but my GTI friends are explaining how the FMIC is better than a regular IC like IE or AMS. But after research I'm finding thats not the case but in your opinion what do you think is a better investment for the car?
