I throw a ball for mine 2 times a day for 15 to 20 minutes and take them for a walk in the woods 3 or 4 times a week for 1 to 2 miles, it seems to do the trick.

@@joshtrd flirt pole? Are you talking about the pole with a bungee cord out the top with a rag thingy tied on the end that you spin around, dragging it on the ground for the dogs to chase? I have one and yes you are right they love it and its a lot of fun :D

German shepherds need unbelievable amounts of excercise ive learnt this from having two german shepherds

Off leash walk (somewhere like a forrest) twice a day. When taking them out don't over exercise when young, but I found the 5 mins per month she needed additional 5-10 mins beyond that. I try to be mindful that I'm training a family pet, not trying to create an endurance athlete (you can make a rod for your own back). Engaging training and exercise. On leash road walk (walk around block) is pretty pointless. I do it now and again just to for training on leash.

Yeah but you need to stick to it Because if you don't They will go into depression Quick And die of it As early as 2-5 yrs old. they more than any other breed that this so true for If you're getting a german so He or she can make you exercise more You got the wrong idea and the wrong mentality my friend Straight out the gate And your plan is going to fail hard. Im sorry but its the way it is with this breed. Because if you are already Undisciplined walking into having ownership of a GSD and before getting one you currently can't get yourself consistently going for just a simple run every day Then a german shepherd is not for you i'm telling you right now Don't do that to the dog Its not fair To have a german shepherd you have to be a disciplined person at heart From the ground up I dont mean any disrespect to anybody and I am definitely not trying to offend anyone I'm just telling you Because if I didn't know this I would have wished someone would have told me If that was my situation 🤷🏼‍♀️

I take mine for a walk in the trails 3 times a day and a walk on the road once a day We do lots of hills he runs all through the woods loves it and heels right by my side on the road

We rescued a 4 year old female long haired German shepered. She was used for breeding in a back yard, kept in a small confined space and abused. She was on the way to the pound when we decided to take her (Susie). We really didn't want a big dog but here we are falling in love with her. I see that you handle rescue dogs so any advise from you would be wonderful.

I now own a 9 month old GS it was unexpected, my boyfriend showed up with the pup when he was about 4 or 5 months old, during the time he was moving in. He had been passed around to atleast 3 previous owners or people from my understanding. It was heartbreaking he was very thin,shy, and timid. So we kept him but he is alot of work. He still nips a bit, jumps alot and barks excessively all day. I wasn't planning on a 2nd dog as I have a 11 year old chihuahua and a very small duplex., but I don't have the heart to rehome him again and I have invested alot of time and money in him, I just need some help getting at least the jumping and barking somewhat if not most of it under control. I have grown attached to him more than my boyfriend but I don't know what else to try to get those 2 under control. But I started watching your videos and I have high hopes I get some relief. Thank you

Hello, we live in the dessert/suburb area of california. We have really cold winters. I also have 3 children. How can I incorporate my children while also exercising my german shepherd female?

Hide and seek? Can be a good mental and physical exercise and a lot of fun for kids.

Wise advice in researching the breeders EXTENSIVELY. Ask them to show you the lineage of both sire and bitch and if they can't or won't provide that, take that as one warning sign. One of my GSDs converted MANY people who never even liked dogs at all to find a new respect and affection for dogs and the breed in particular. I will not profess to be an "expert", but my experience with GSDs has shown while yes, very high energy and willing to walk, hike, run for miles... they will also too adjust their need for activity (once adult) to that of their owner/companion. While I had one which was quite active and did 5-10 miles per day, after a spine injury that greatly limited my mobility and caused me fear that she'd not get the exercise she needed, she quite easily adjusted to shorter walks (by family, friends and neighbors) but was quite content spending her time with me and taking much shorter walks during my recovery. I love all dogs, but have a respect for the intelligence, obedience and loyalty to the GSD that surpasses anything I've personally experienced with any other.
