How much For A Whole Hog / Pig // Is It Worth It

Come along and see the process we go through when ordering and picking up our whole hog from a local farmer. Below I’ve listed the total weight with price per lb.
Total weight of meat after processing 203.93lbs
We did get 10.86lbs of fat so I'll subtract that from the total
We paid $500 total for everything, bringing it all to $2.59 per pound.

I just bought a whole pork. My niece is the farmer and they send it to a local locker who happens to be my cousin. So, I am getting quality meat at a great price and help 2 families! Win..win, for all!!

Local processor runs a yearly sale. Been 1.25lb hanging weight for years. This year, up to 1.69lb. Smoking fees went from a dollar a pound to 1.25 too. The feds reserve will have to keep boosting interest rates for a while so prices won't be going down. Locking in a long haul price in these times is for sure the way to go.

I get my hogs from a neighbors organic property. I have to do all the work though to gut and process them. They are wild boar. I’d rather do it how you are doing it. It seems so much easier. I love that they were fed by the Amish farmers growing their own feed.

We just order ours from a local farm. They are partnered with a Amish farm that grows hogs. They purchase the hog transport it to the butcher. A few weeks later they pickup the meat all cut up and frozen and labeled. They bring it back to their farm where their customers can pick up the hog. It’s very convenient

WOW!!! THATS INCREDIBLE!!! I have 3 Berkshire pigs I am growing out now and I will spend 500 per pig just to feed them! (Including purchase price of the piglets) slaughter fees are 75-100 and then processing fees are 30-70 cents per lb of hanging weight on top of all that.

Ditto, I was wondering how in the world one feeds a pig to butcher weight for less than $500. I’m in expensive Colorado though.

I'm taking my Mangalica Hog to the locker on Monday for Tuesday progressing. This pig I raised myself on my homestead. He's a big one. I have a video that you can guess the weights and possibly win. Check out the video and take a guess at the live weight, hanging weight, and or the package weight. I get my feed for my pigs for virtually free. So I'm only going to have the cost of processing. Can't wait to see my cost per pound. I'm like you when it comes to ham. I'd rather have a couple roasts. Then the rest put into fresh ground or brats and sausage.

I’m a city boy that lives in Houston Texas by the way of Providence Rhode Island I’ve been here in Houston for years now. I always wanted a whole hog or a half a cow. I did see your video on your cow meat and I also watch The farmers wife they are hilarious. I love her cooking style. Does any of the meat that you get from the cow or hog come smoked like the bacon or sausage? I have one more question do you have any connections here in the Houston Texas area of farms that I could go visit and purchase from? Thanks

We don't have any connections in Texas, however we've searched local areas on Facebook and Google and have has success finding local farms. Also, farming groups on Facebook can help you find good local farmers.

Yeah I am getting 2.40lb Hanging weight no additional processing fee in my area - You got to be careful in some places because often time the processing is not included - I get mine majority sausage and generally everywhere else charges extra for it - glad to see your local farmer doesnt charge additional as well.

look around you would be surprised when you buy straight from the farmer how much cheaper and better it taste. You probably have someone closer than you think who grows Hogs.

They asked us how much we wanted it seems we can get almost as much as we want since they usually toss it. we got 20lbs last time and made 6 batches of soap not sure how many lbs that was. The really hard fat around the kidney is where the best fat for Tallow is

I watch both the videos for the and the Beast and the pork and you told us the square feet for the beef which was worth the money and so is the pig but you didn't tell us how many cubic feet in the video

I know for the Hog we fit the whole thing in our 6 square ft freezer but it was packed tight couldn’t fit anything else in there with it.
