To process clay or not to process clay, that is the question of the day! (Say that 5 times fast) haha. This video was filmed Sunday March 27, usually Sunday’s are my “learn and Inform” video days on the creek; where I take time to answer theories, answer general questions, and share more knowledge of how to use certain equipment. Saturdays we usually hit the creek pretty hard, running lots of material and working ourselves to exhaustion with the crew. Keep this in mind for future episodes, and let me know if you have any theories or questions you’d like me to test or answer on the creek.

I loved this video, the clay is always a challenge. And it seems the trick is learning which clays are worth the extra effort. Your suggestion for replenishing the water in you classification bucket and feeding the sluice by hand when working with heavy clay material is spot on and definitely helps out.

Awesome video here, Justin. You definitely had me laughing about the clay material you was debating on running through your sluice. But that really paid off for you on that. Very nice job, bud. And one of the small pieces of gold looked almost a small nugget from that clay material. I bet that you will be digging it on that clay layer next time or in future videos. You definitely need to bring in some help on that one. 😂

Great video. I love finding clay up here in PNW Washington State. It's a pain but I always find good gold in it. We're not paid by the hour so there is no rush. Always enjoy the day and hopefully you end the day with a smile in your pan and your face. I really did enjoy this. Keep em coming buddy.

I remember I had two roommates from Wash. D.C. We were in Auburn Ravine on the American, and I told them gold was still present there. They didn't believe me. I had a pie pan, so I reached in the river and washed the clay off a rock I hand dug down a bit deeper. The rock was encased in clay, and it held a match head size bit of gold. I found another in the clay in the same spot in minutes. Rear ends and elbows in the river from the city slickers. I gave them the gold, and made their day.

That’s awesome! Yeah I have found gold literally stuck on the clay on a piece of bedrock, it was pretty cool. Gold sinks through sand and gravels pretty easily, once it hits that clay layer it could take years or even 10’s-100’s of years to penetrate clay, it’s always a great place to look for gold

@@X4PROSPECTING A few years ago, an opportunity came up to buy one of California Gold mining town sites established 1850. It's on 31 acres, 3 parcels, and its filled with crystal, quarts, and lots of clay. I have a minelab gpz 7000, and I bet if I had the time I could find a bazillion square nails, and maybe some gold. I did find what I think may be 4 oz of platinum. I'm not sure where to start, other than my typical day of developing the land. Not enough time in a day!!!

@@X4PROSPECTING Well, it has a 3 acre and 1 acre pond, each with its own Island, so I can't complain. I do have a hammock set up out there. Unfortunately, my barn, cabin, and trailer and trees burned in the Caldor fire. Hey, at least I don't have to clear brush now.

Been having a growing interest in panning and looking for gold while exploring. Couple years ago i tried panning a bunch of clay from a bank over top of a well known, triple mined spot. I think i saw 3 flakes at the bottom. I didnt have a sluice or pan, just a bowl and boredom. I didn't want to get any proper gear because it was on an abandoned claim and never know who might show up in a bad mood. Didn't plan on taking anything, just wanted to see. The hole was being dug anyways for a cooler. If i could learn enough to earn $500 - $1000 a day, id definitely do it seriously.

Man if I could make $500-$1k a day gold mining I would be doing it! Lol. For now, while my channel continues to grow, I can only gold prospect on weekends unfortunately. Maybe one day I’ll have enough revenue streams from gold prospecting to make a living doing it! That’s the dream man!

I've noticed you get more gold if you submerge your bucket while you brake the clay down and wash out all the suit otherwise it seems to carry it out the sluice

Nice little finds in the clay. Seems like wherever prospectors find clay, with gravels and cobles, in a gold bearing river it contains gold. Always worth running a test pan to find out. By the way, where did get those blue gloves, I wouldn't mind getting a pair.

Just woundering I see your sluce is extra long does it really make that much difference with extra lengh?🙂

I got it made that way so I can run both micro and mini cell dream mat in one sluice, the extra length means I can run material and water faster and cuts down on clearing time. I think it makes a difference, plus a longer sluice was needed since I got it made with the highbanker attachment.
