If you are traveling for short-term purposes, you are not allowed to bring more than 1 kg of gold jewelry. However, if you are currently bringing 10 grams of gold, you will have to pay a customs duty of 35% plus a 3.5% surcharge, making a total of 38.5% customs duty.
Now, you may ask about duty-free gold. Well, the rules are different if you have been living outside India for more than a year. Women can carry gold jewelry worth up to Rs 1 lakh duty-free. The limit for men is up to Rs 50,000. Children who have been living outside India for more than a year can also bring gold duty-free.

This information is correct. I can confirm because I travelled today from Dubai to India. Customs officer explained me these rules. If you are on a vacation to Dubai then don't buy gold. You will need to pay duty (38.5%) even on 1 gram of gold jewellery. 50k and 1 lakh limit is only applicable if you resided outside India for more than a year.

Gold coins duty-free nahi hote hain. Agar aapne gold coins carry kiye toh aapko coins ki value par 38.5% customs duty deni padegi.

There are two ways how you can carry gold to India: 1. Duty-free Gold by carrying it during travel 2. Importing Gold as baggage by paying customs duty An Indian traveler who has been living abroad for more than one year is permitted to carry gold, free of duty, up to a certain weight during their travel. For male passengers, 20 grams with a maximum value of Rs. 50,000. For female passengers, 40 grams, up to a maximum value of Rs. 1,000,000. Children who spent more than a year abroad are also eligible for a duty-free allowance on gold jewelry.
