A quick rundown of my year long experiment with content ID! We'll take a look at my income statements over the last year as well as the types of videos that my music is being used in. I'll share some thoughts on whether I think it's worth it, and some things to know before you register your music with a digital fingerprinting service like Identifyy.

Thanks for the informative video. It looks like a good tool to get additional revenue from your music. I've been researching Content ID because I wanted to use it, however, the rules for Content ID dictate that you can not have any of the following in your music: "No beats, loops or sound effects downloaded from sample libraries. This includes any free sounds included in Logic, Pro Tools, Garage Band etc." I'm pretty sure every producer uses kick samples from their DAW or downloaded sample packs. Could you please explain how you are able to register your songs with Content ID without getting flagged for using those sounds/samples? You recommend Splice in other videos so obviously you use samples, and based on your other videos I can see you use Logic sounds too. Why do your songs/beats qualify for Content ID?

Great CID video, Steve. I’m happy to see that it turned out to be a decent source of income for you man! Well deserved! I started registering my music around August of 2022, right after I got into Motion Array, and reports were very quiet for a while. Suddenly, today I noticed a lot of videos using my music! Some of them even have my music and yours playing one after the other! 🤩 They’re all from December of 2022. It’s an intangible reward to see how far my music is going. I haven’t reached the payout threshold yet, but it’s certainly gonna be an interesting source of income for me too. Thanks for all the support. 🙏🏻

Really nice, it was worth it! I think the number of views and the amount of money you get are not directly related. If someone is clicking on ads, you get more money. If an ad is full-screen, like those at the start or end of a video, it's worth more, but some might skip the end. If an ad is just a banner, it's worth less. If someone is watching from the US, an ad will be worth more money compared to other countries where an ad is cheaper. Then there are people with premium accounts who see no ads, so you get some amount set by KZfaq, and the subscription has different prices by country. Then, in the end, there is no revenue if someone is blocking ads with some sort of adblocker.

Someone told me that using a kick in the track is enough to make KZfaq delete the track from the library. Is this really true? And what do you do in recording your songs? Do you really not use any kicks or any drum solos? I'm not talking about loops here, I'm talking about solo parts, Another question please i'm very confused Does all the music you include for content id not use ready kicks or snares or fx like White noise or sweap from kshmr pack? Or are you making these sounds by yourself, because someone told me the music taken down from the KZfaq content id library because any sound i use is not made by me But I can't believe that just the sound of a kick causes a track to be deleted from the content ID library after several months of actually making money. By the way the language of the video in a minute 8:44 is Arabic

I don’t know, I’ve never had an issue with Content ID and using samples. Sometimes I use a Splice sample, sometimes I do my own sound design. I think problems occur when producers get lazy and just use a bunch of Splice samples or loops and don’t do much to make it original.

Hi Steven! Wonderful and informative video. Quick question: Is it a requirement to use a middle-man (like Identifyy) to get paid for your songs used in any YT videos? Why can't you simply register your songs in YT's Content ID and skip bringing another company (and 30%) into the mix? I have compositions that I will be personally using for my videos (not registered with any stock music companies for licensing, etc, only with my PRO)...but I want to be paid if any of my tracks are stolen by creators on KZfaq. Does YT Content ID adequately cover stolen content and pay you, or is a company like Identifyy needed to ensure policing/payment? Thanks so much!

Great question but I don't have a perfect answer. I do actually use my own tracks in my videos fairly often, but how it relates to any benefit regarding content ID with respect to my own channel is still a bit unclear to me. First of all, it's possible that getting a claim, even from use of my own registered music would cut into the total amount I'm able to monetize my videos with AdRev because I'd be giving Identifyy a cut of it. Second, despite many instances of using my own content ID registered music in my videos, it never seems to trigger a claim for me. I don't remember connecting my KZfaq page to ownership of the material so I'm not sure how or why Identifyy seems to skip past my content. Something to look into though..

You could use chat gpt to write your scripts, and then use a text to video ai to create the video, then pop your tracks on there, use a text to speech ai for the vo - probably wouldn't take too long lol. Definitely feel you could use your own music in these videos more, as a viewer it would be cool to get a feel for who you are as a musician and background music and some angle changes and cuts definitely helps keep flow in a video. Another idea could be to do some reaction videos of what people have used your music for, explain how it has enhanced the mood, maybe posture over why one track is more successful than others, has the track name played a role etc. Or a compilation video promoting the videos and channels that have used your music and say thanks... if their video align with any of your interests you could spark a direct connection with them and potentially develop direct relationships with the smaller creators to collab or gain sponsorship from, or potentially just licence to them directly or gain some custom jobs... Sorry to ramble at you just what came to mind Thanks for the video Steve, have not considered this option and look forward to exploring further!

So, let me get this straight: 1. Someone buys your music and adds it to his software. 2. Someone records video of said software. 3. You claim 100% revenue of said videos. 4. You proceed to feel good about how much you earned from work of other people - because you got paid twice. This is just an example, but this is how the cancerous content id works. I've bought "royalty-free" music (not from you) in the past and its a scam - registered on content id and earning money from my work.
@Steven_Beddall
@Steven_Beddall 3 ай бұрын
Nope. You got it all wrong, let me clarify it for you.. 1. Someone buys my music legitimately with a usage license 2. Someone records video on KZfaq using said music 3. KZfaq issues a copyright claim because it's registered with content ID 4. I receive a TINY portion of the ad revenue generated by the video for using my copyright protected content because the user couldn't be bothered to clear the claim by providing proof of license. 5. I proceed to feel baffled that user doesn't clear the claim which is hilariously EASY TO DO. 6. I also consider the likelihood that user STOLE my music and proceed to feel AWESOME about being paid twice 😊

@@Steven_Beddall Not quite. I bought good licenses (the most expensive ones) from audio jungle and asked audio jungle beforehand if I can use it in my game. They said ok. What happened after? @Steven_Beddall
@Steven_Beddall 3 ай бұрын
@@rixxir Yeah that sucks for sure, but Audiojungle requires that the music author discloses whether the music is registered with content ID, it says it right on the track landing page. If it wasn't disclosed, the author would be violating their terms of service and you should be refunded. I understand the frustration but I'm not sure it quite meets the 'scam' criteria because it's not a hidden feature. In any case, if you are using RF music in your games you'll find that much of it is protected by these kinds of systems to prevent theft and unauthorized usage. The CID system isn't perfect by any means, far from it. I would just consider that its not musicians trying to scam you out of your hard work! AJ probably isn't the best place to buy music for your game either. I'd look at Game Dev Market or Unity Asset Store and make sure the tracks are free from CID.
