What constitutes as a load though? Like what does that look like and what is the industry definition of a load? Maybe then we’ll stop using too much detergent. 😩

Usually 8 pounds of laundry is a load.

Appreciate your expertise that confirms what the sales folks have said too. What are your thoughts on detergent sheets? I’ve been told and read a few things that the starches and polymers that hold the sheets together will ruin a washer. I would love to know your thoughts.

I have an HE machine, but I also have a greasy, mechanic-y spouse. They don't go together well.

As a greasy, mechanic-y spouse myself, when I have a particularly dirty set of clothes to wash, I pre-soak them in a 5 gallon bucket with dish soap. A few changes of water over a day or so and alot of the filth will come off before they even hit the machine! I'm not saying it's ideal but it works for us and it has likely prevented some damage to our machines and it helps me look my best when I face another filthy job! 😁

my husband drives me crazy using too much soap and then double rinsing because he has sensitive skin. He argues that he's a working man and needs more soap. Sir, you drive a truck. You are not a lumberjack.

i like using sheets for this reason. cant over pour. no bulky container to lift and store. can bring on a road trip or camping or on a plane

In Germany it would be a front loading washing machine for 6 kg of washing = one cap of detergent. Calgon is added if you have hard water. 1.5 cap for 9 kg of washing. Edit: or alternatuvely read the instructions, don't over or underload your washing machine.

Dirt, oil, grease, sweat, metal shavings, and more in my clothes in a terrible washer, I've not had truly clean clothes in a couple of years. I've only had badly dirty or sweat free but still not quite clean clothes. Like 70-80% clean maybe, still oil and grease in some stuff, apartment washers that barely work most the time

You might want to look into whats called "laundry stripping" if you haven't already. It's supposed to work by breaking down all the "baked-in" smells and sweat and oil, and it's not all that hard to do because you can do it in your bathtub and wash as usual in whatever setup you have. :)

I concocted a booster recipe. Equal parts Borax, Arm & Hammer WASHING Soda, Biz & OxiClean (your choice of oxi) & mix the equal parts together well. Use your best judgement as to how much. I usually put in a half cup in my non-HE machine. Since you have tough clothes, stick to Tide Oxi Powder or Persil.

Question: we have one of those GE washing machines that you fill up the reservoir and the machine adds the detergent to the cycle on its own for many many loads (like for months). Is this gonna be the cool or should I portion out the proper amount myself and not trust the machine?

So. I have a 2013 non-HE Whirlpool. If Tide says fill to line 2 for medium loads (HE detergent), I fill to line 4. Cuz I have A LOT more water. And, it's not that much more detergent. IMHO. Would this be right?

There's also a teeny tiny measuring cup you can buy that has tablespoon markings. I got mine at Walmart for I think $2? I like that for measuring detergent because it has a spout but tablespoon measuring spoons work fine too.

I fill it to 3 for large loads, 2 for medium, and 1 for small in a top-loading washer. Beyond that, I have no idea how much the cup that comes with my laundry detergent holds. They don't mark it in tablespoons.
@siryarianthefirst3360
@siryarianthefirst3360 Ай бұрын
usually the measurements on the cup are way too much, even level 1 can be greater than a couple tablespoons. i have never filled my cup, i just do the same amount for all laundry (below the first level) and it works out fine.

The washer can't rinse out if too much detergent. Dirt sticks more to your clothes if detergent is left in your clothes therefore clothes are dirtier.
