I ran into this issue when I went into perfusion, which made me go into the profession blind. I just started this channel in hopes to share some knowledge to those who may be interested. I plan to keep up the content if there is interest.

I agree! There is not much information out there about perfusion. After graduating from perfusion school it's not difficult to find a job. You must be willing to go to any state for that job though. Every hospital does not have a cardiac program, so that puts limits on the amount of jobs that there may be in each state.

@@hyeni100 Pay range varies greatly based mainly on state then experience. In a cheap /affordable state. Rookies can expect to make between 24-30/hr. In an expensive state u can make between 40-50/hr and with experience you can expect to cap out between 50-80/hr.

Yes! There has to be 24/7 coverage in case of emergencies. There is no set work hours. There are a few hospitals out there that the perfusionist work shifts, but most perfusionist have irregular hours. We work on an order of relief system.

No perfusionist I have shadowed or have talked to work like this. It is usually a 36-40hr work week. They take turns being in call on weekends and holidays

You are correct. I work 1 week of call per month. If there are less perfusionist you would take more days of call. You work 40hrs if you aren’t on call. If you are at a busier hospital you can work more then 40hrs. You take call from home. So for example for the weekend I am on call all day Saturday and Sunday 24hrs each day. That does not mean I’m actually working. I may it even step foot in the hospital all weekend. Hope this makes more sense.

The numbers I gave is annual salaries. Yes! I know many nurses who are now perfusionist.

Indian perfusionist will have to go to perfusion school in the US to become practice perfusion.

Yes, you are eligible as long as you have taken the prerequisites required for a perfusion program. You will also need to shadow a perfusionist.
