I’m an electrician full time and a window tinter part time. I work a quarter of the hours tinting and make 3x the money. But it is definitely seasonal.

That’s interesting. I’m also an aspiring electrician and wanted to do tinting on the side. How did you get into tinting? Did you take a class? Or were you taught by a tint store? I’m interested in opening my own tinting business and was thinking about taking a class and getting a certification. Would you recommend I work for a tint shop after and get experience before going off on my own or do you think getting my certificate will be enough to work on cars alone? Any knowledge you have to share is highly appreciated 🙏

@@jond8013 my father owned a window tinting business so I started tinting when I was in high school about 15 years ago or so. Idk much about the schools but I’d say see if you can get in with a shop to teach you. In the meantime buy some film and tint personal cars and family cars for practice.

Bro I was a full time electrician and quit to be a tinter lol. Here is my take: In the beginning, having a tool bag full of squeegees and cleaning stuff made me feel less important than my drills and cutters etc. thats the only downside. On the positive side, electrical was so boring and depressing for me hence why I quit. Tinting is actually fun and requires real skill not just knowledge. You can make more money depending on the environment. Less risky and not as dangerous as working with electrical. Not having to crawl in spaces, get dirty with dry wall or climb latters

I'm working with a lady who owns her own tint shop. She doesn't know how to tint and pays me 60$ per car. I can do a car alone in two hours. Iv been saving and will be opening my own shop soon. I'm going to charge 250 a car ceramic tint. I will be making four times the money. Took me eight years. Never give up.

How come you don't protect the door panels/rear deck/electronics at all?
@rogueunboxing5183

usually it doesn’t get damage when you do this, the ones that does cover the panels do it because it’s a cleaner work space and less work when they clean up after they’re done.

I tint for Linex (the bed liner company) my cleanliness and just quality work is there BUT I’m having a hard time getting faster. I use a plotter that is quite often wrong. I had cut most windshield and back glass but doors I have a hard time hand cutting perfectly. I’m OCD bad and it has to be nearly perfect or I’m not happy. How can I learn to hand cut door glass properly and perfectly? I’m loving doing it and my quality is there I just really want to hand cut everything and get fast, just can’t figure out how to get much faster

Speed comes with clean work and experience. Most cars I do, I only have to heat 0-3 specs a car. So this speeds me up so much. A lot of it is in the method you use as well. The more seamless it is the quicker you get. But never try to rush to get the speed, you will get mistakes. The speed will come when you perfect your install, I don't necessarily move fast when I tint, again it's just seamlesss

Don't rush, it is better to get 2-4 cars done a day but in perfect, instead of 5-8 cars with a lot of mistakes because you're rushing it and forcing it.
