Here’s some advice.. if they ask you “what’s your pay range?” Bid high so there’s room for negotiation. I make $20 from home with US BANK( currently in an accelerated DA program for my RDA license and I finish on November 18th. . I had my first interview for ortho yesterday. she asked how much do I wanna get paid, I said I make $20 now and it pays the bills and I don’t think I could go any lower than $19. And I stood FIRM on my decision. Hopefully I got the job though lol, but you never know. But yes go in asking for vs settling for what they give you. I heard that advice from an actual dental assistant when I job shadowed. that got hired at a dentures and implants place a year ago. He said that he started off at $14/hr, he trained a girl that got hired 8 months after him and he overheard her talking to another coworker and she said she makes $19/hr.. and he was there longer than her .. some jobs will allow you to ask for how much you wanna make, but some don’t.

In Canada as an orthodontic assistant making around 35-38 dollars/hr

I just got hired as an ortho assistant with no ortho experience starting at $23 an hour in Colorado. I’m very grateful but I believe assistants should still make more considering the higher cost of living here and all that they have to do! However, with most ortho jobs in CO, the pay can increase to $27 an hr once you build experience and skills at a practice which I think is fair! Especially due to there being no Ortho Assisting schooling or certification programs here, you have to learn on the job. I applied to two Dental Hygiene schools here in CO this spring and didn’t get accepted, even with all my ducks in a row, straight A’s, and experience/ certificate in Dental Assisting. It’s crazy competitive! I wish you the best of luck with getting into your program!

15.50 if u leave your company u will get paid more sadly people I worked for 8 months total in my career and I went to 17.00 in 8 months when I started at 12 here in Texas not playing but job jump guys doesn’t look good but u will get paid more I was surprised when I did that

Honestly, you can work in an office to get the experience and if money is a problem and you don’t have kids u can travel and make the money

I’m an RDA work in perio office in CA .$32 an hour , for those who a da work for $13 an hour , I would say you guys deserve better than that , dental assistant do a lot of things in the office and if you work for a nice dentist good for you , but if you work for a horrible dentist who like yelling at you it’s not worth it . I had a bad experience in the past dentist threw an impression gun at me in front of patient . Look for something better at least $18 otherwise work for target or Costco paying $16 an hour with no stress . Tap your shoulder you can make more than that and dentist should treat you with respect. Overall I love dental assistant as my long term job . Trust me , a dental office can not run without dental assistant.

I am a dental assistant in Los Angeles I have around 2 1/2 years of experience & I went from 13$ at a private office (general) to 17$ at a corporate office . So It dose depend on city but Otho assistants get 25$+. I’m currently applying into hygiene programs but gosh it’s soo competitive.

If that's the average that's really sad. I'm from Florida and make a lot more than that. Dental assistants are way underpaid.

I’m considering enrolling in a dental assistant program, I don’t have bad teeth but they are not perfect. I am missing 2 teeth on each side of my mouth and they are a little stained from coffee!
