Hi friends! Today, I'll be sharing how much nurses make in california! I'll be spilling all the details from base pay and differentials to benefits and types of shifts worked!
When I was growing up and trying to do my research, I only found one website to report rates of how much new grad nurses made. So today, I wanted to try and break the stigma money taboo and share how much i made as a new grad in California. It's important to note that I live in southern california so the rates may be different from someone who lives in the Bay Area.
I hope that this video is helpful for you! Please give it a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe. And if you got this far, thank you! I appreciate you!

The editing thoooo 🔥 I miss California. This video is making me consider moving back 😁 It was hard for me to become a nurse when I was going to school there because of how competitive it was to get into nursing school. Great video! I found it quite informative. Currently working on my BSN right now. I’m based off Toronto, Ontario. Cap pay in Toronto and across Canada is about $47.00. To rent a one-bedroom apartment in Toronto is about $1700-2000 a month. And to purchase a one-bedroom condo is approximately $700k on average. How expensive is it really in NorCal? How much to rent a one bedroom apartment in the Bay Area? Will new grad RN wage there suffice?

Depends where in the Bay Area you plan to work! If you work in San Fran your salary will easily be over 100k BUT the cost of living is ridiculous! My brother went to school there and his 2 brd apartment was 4K/month (yes he had lots of roommates) as for condos easily over 1 million but if you are willing to do a drive I’m sure you can find something much more affordable, quieter and nicer outside SF

I'm thinking of starting pre requisite courses to become a nurse. I have worked for a year as a housekeeper/caregiver for the elderly, so I have seen my fair share of bodily fluids and some death. For 2 years worked at a temporary residential house for people suffering debilitating mental health issues, so I have a lot of experience de escalating and dealing with what can appear to be very unpredictable behavior. I only occasionally had some compassion fatigue but did my best to ensure that the people I worked with were treated with kindness and above all respect. I still have some worries I would not be a good fit, but maybe training and practice will help. And I already live in California. Do you think an associates degree in nursing to become an RN is an okay way to start? Edit, I see you already answered this question :)

I recently passed my NCLEX RN and I'm exploring my options at the moment. I've been a CNA for 3 years, LVN for 5 years. Everyone is telling me to go to the hospital but I'm receiving the same offer from hospice and home health. I see offers like 75$/hr salary based for hospice case manager, and all you do is admit pt to hospice and write the comfort care orders. My question is, is it worth it to go through the stress in hospital for the same salary? ER or OR nurse was my dream when I was a kid, but after being in the medical field for a while and seeing a lot of patients trying to gain money from lawsuits, it makes me hesitant to go to hospitals.

If you want to be able to save/invest, buy a house and retire early as a nurse: Be smart and do NOT work in cities of SF, SD, Orange, Irvine, LA and any coastal city, the cost of housing/living is ridiculously expensive. There are many small to medium size cities in California with lower cost of HOUSING and living but the pay is still pretty high compared to the rest of US. Most places give nurses very poor raises after they have been hired. The biggest raise most nurses get is when they leave and start a new job. Sad to say. As far as in Nursing school, it’s not too bad. Dosage calculations and drips is pretty simple once you learn the steps.

I live in Portugal... would it be easy for me to have a nice life in California if I started working there as a nurse? Is the salary good if you weight the cost of life? Bc here in Portugal the commun thing is to make like 6€ per hour, so $40 per hour sound like I'd be rich

Hi! California depending on where you are but cost of living is high! For example, a 1 bedroom 1 bath here is about $1800 plus electricity, gas, water so another 100. Gas around here is anywhere from $2.8 -$3/gallon and people usually live about 15-1hr away from work! Food is also expensive unless you make most of your meals yourself. take out can be $13-20 for one person and coffee is $4.5 to $6 depending on where you go! So it comes down to how well you budget really! For me personally, I have student loans but I live at home and so that’s made life a little bit more affordable! It’s definitely doable but not enough to be rich.

Catarina Im sorry but you wont be rich in Cali with $40/hr esp if you dont know anyone to stay with for you to save up. Rent and taxes are ridiculous there
