How much performance is lost from a DIRTY Air Filter?

My horsepower numbers weren't adding up. Weistec Engineering found the simple solution. My AIR FILTER was saturated with sludge. I haven't cleaned it in years. How much power do you think I lost?

You should of cleaned the air filter and put it back in and run the test. Because the air filter would put restriction back in the system and you would not get that 50hp like you're seeing with no air filter.

@@miro5031 no one is denying there is some difference but the OP is correct... without testing the filter after cleaning then you have the TRUE HP LOST due to an excessively dirty filter.

Look at this 0-60 mph comparison between the least restrictive air cleaner element (K&N) and most restrictive (Wix) in a Chevy Suburban. Even the slowest was only 0.3 second different. Dirty air filter = -50 whp. Clean air filter = some loss to no loss. Look up hot rod magazines test on air cleaners for carbed motors. Some filters actually increased horsepower over running no filter

I came here because I cleaned my air filter and was driving today and all of a sudden I floor it and notice way more torque than I’m used to and wondered if cleaning it had made a difference. I’m guessing it did! I bought the kit for it as well.

Felt like my car was slow looked at the filter didn’t look too dirty but I bought a new one anyways put in the new one now it feels like a new car. So I guess the filters don’t have to be really dirty so maybe once a month check them if that’s too extreme maybe every two months check the filters

Very misleading Rob.... should of put on new or cleaned filter then dyno. Air filters are restrictions. Lost 25 hp with k&n off vs on...on my turbo car. New filter. Your air fuel should of altered too.

No reason for air fuel ratio to alter unless you're on a TPS tune (generally only ITBs need that). It's not like the ecu can't measure the difference in airflow.
