AJ really?? I scored a 73, yesterday, and they had a long list of jobs I could pick any from. I went for 25C, so I can hopefully dip my toes into IT for when I get out. Your son may have been duped because recruiters have certain quotas to fill. If your son isn’t happy with it, I suggest finding another recruiter, they’d be all over him.

@golfery5119 3 жыл бұрын
And of course if you do become an officer, when you get to your unit you'll likely be doing your own PT and what YOU want to do for PT. You won't have to do the stupid "PRT" drill and ceremony "prone row" nonsense that the lower enlisted soldiers would be forced to do.
@richardmorales5145
@richardmorales5145 3 жыл бұрын
@@golfery5119 that is 100% not true in the Army. If you had an officer that did not PT with their platoon/company/battery/troop/shop they were wrong.
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardmorales5145 It's been both. I have had officers that did PT with the group I have done it in. But probably just one time, when I was attached to a small detachment, did the officer do the boring "PRT" "prep drill" with us. That same officer on PT sessions afterwards would do whatever he wanted to do. Other times we have officers do runs with the group, but of course they're not going to do the "PRT" crap before and after. Plenty of times I've seen officers not do PT at all with the group, and other times, I would see them do PT on their own in the corner. I've actually seen some officers in the corner, while we were on the ground rolling around in "PRT", *and those officers were actually off in the corner jumping rope or even lifting weights* (which is really something we should be doing during PT sessions, since we do have to prepare for the new ACFT test) And even at times I've seen upper enlisted not do PT with us everyday, if they do PT at all when they get up in rank. I've seen more than one E6 show up to PT formation to make sure the lower enlisted were there, then after we salute the revelrie song, *actually turn around and leave* without actually doing the PT (higher ranks carry more responsibility but at the same time, that old saying about "rank has its privileges" is also true). But definitely officers. I can see how being a leader and doing PT with the (lower enlisted) soldiers can show good leadership (the one time I had an officer do "PRT" with us, he didn't lead the formation, if that matters), but at the same time, yeah, makes you wish you could have been an officer instead of lower enlisted. The military and army are hard enough without dealing with the extra nonsense that lower enlisted have to go through.

Unless things have changed drastically in 30-40 years you basically run everywhere all day. For example besides morning PT we would have to run out to all the ranges like the Rifle range and so on while in all your gear except backpack. Which is tough for people who go into the Army not physically fit. Also when you leave the mess hall you run from one place to the other when you are alone. Before going in i feel cardio conditioning is most important then worrying about benching 400 pounds if you know what i mean.Once you go to your permanent party unit PT varies alot. Some units leaders are more demanding then other that's the way it was back then. Except Airborne units which are always tough for obvious reasons. You haul alot of stuff after jumping and no time for weak body people.

Basic isn’t that bad at all. You only hear about the hard parts. No one talks about the hours of standing in the CTA doing nothing. Most nights you are Racked out by 2100 and can get 7 hours if you don’t have fireguard. Now In the field..... whole different ball game. Went to Benning in December, by far the worst part was the cold not the PT.

"No one talks about the hours of standing in the CTA doing nothing. " I didn't really have it like that when I was in basic. It's DEFINITELY true that in RECEPTION, you will be standing around in the heat or cold for literally several hours at a time doing absolutely nothing. The longest my company in my basic cycle stood around for a long time doing nothing in the CTA in actual basic doing nothing was when we had to have a full battle rattle inspection from a command sergeant major after we had just done our blue phase PT test. That was pure miserable. But then maybe that was another difference between where I went (fort jackson) vs fort benning.

@@beautiful8654 I cant speak on all army bct trainings, but i went to fort jackson. I honestly can't completely remember for sure (I went three years ago) but I believe we did not do training as in field training or soldier training on the weekends. We did still do PT ("PRT") on Saturdays, but not on Sundays. On Sundays, those were spent cleaning up the bays and company areas. We still, on Sundays and on Saturdays, had plenty of times where we got smoked. Quite often on Sundays especially, there would just be one or two company drill sergeants in charge of the company while the other drill sergeants were off or doing something else. That drill sergeant would get even more irritable and have the whole company (all four platoons), smoked. Those are actually some of the fondest and funniest (looking back of course, not at the actual time but even a few cases at the time) memories of basic.

it used to be you had to do 20 years to retire, or less under special circumstances (i.e. service-connected medical issues or if the army was shrinking), but for a few years now they've phased out the old school pension plan and you basically have a 401k type deal that gives better returns the longer you stay in, but you don't have to stay in for a set amount of time to qualify. it's kind of hard to explain and I'm not 100% on the numbers but that's the premise also, 11x is just a placeholder MOS for infantry recruits. When you get to Benning, depending on what OSUT company you're assigned to (pretty much random) you'll be chosen to be either a Bravo which is rifleman, or a C which is mortars. About 5/6 people will get Bravo. The training is the same except those chosen to be Charlies get an extra few weeks of mortar training

When COVID 19 is wiped out. BCT is always changing though. The Army has to keep up with Political, Societal, and Scientific changes. For Instance, Scientifically: the change to the ACFT from the APFT. Now the focus is on WHAT you can do rather than Specific Training for a test that has been the main way to get ahead. You can pass the APFT with a 300, but you can't carry a 180 pound buddy with all your gear and all their gear 100 meters. Something smells here. So now they changed the test, and the training regimen to reflect the need to change.

There’s no “average”. It varies by cadre member (some of mine preferred the air squat or prone row hold). The least I’ve had to do is 5 (which is really 10 push-ups with the way they count). Most often it was 20-30 (40-60), sometimes they’d count to 50-60 or make you hold the positions for a ridiculous amount of time if they were really pissed off. Nobody could hold it, but if you push yourself you’ll definitely get better.

I've heard lots of people say that it is for "sustainment" rather than actually improving your physical fitness (though some people may do more running during PT than on their own. I certainly do). I think Army organized group PT and especially with the "PRT" stuff is more for group cohesion and for sergeants and E4 promotables to show they can lead troops, rather than actually doing physical fitness.
