Thank you for agreeing to include range where you can! You're right, of course, that many boats aren't made to do blue water cruising, whatever their range may be... but that just means more information we're going to ask you for! You say your job is to sell the dream, and part of that dream is "how would I use this? Where would this be best to travel in?" You've done it sometimes -- certainly you describe obvious explorer yachts as intended for traveling far and wide, and you did a great job describing a yacht called Island Time and talking about why exactly its particular features were perfectly made for the Caribbean. But it would be great to see more about that in general, because every boat has the things it does best and the places where those are most needed.

I like this. I like how much you emphasise that you are a salesman first. This actually makes you much more believable in everything that you say.

I would love to hear the outcome of that situation with the Rolex and UK customs. STFG if a UK customs officer asks me to pay tax on my watch to gain entry into the UK I'm probably going to get arrested for profanity.

David, I have a question perhaps you can cover in detail in a future video (or if you have already covered it, point me to that video). The twelve passenger limit on charter yachts is mentioned often on the videos I watch on yachts. Occasionally someone will mention the Passenger Yacht Code would allow for additional passengers (and occasionally yachts that hold fourteen to twenty or more guests are showcased), but incurs additional costs that owners opt not to pay. Could you do an in depth video on what it takes to exceed the twelve passenger limit -- for those of us who are interested in that kind of thing? Thank you.

Lol, though I love the "fingerbreakers", and certainly favor having a locking latch style door on pretty much any yacht, I'd not have one that was quite as risky as the old "hole you stick your finger in and hope you'll be able to pull it out momentarily" trick.

Cool, safe travels and enjoy your time in the US! Well, taxes and import duties can be complicated... I certainly got my fair share of raised eyebrows from auditors. What I wonder is how "tax paid" impacts the resale value. I mean to some used yacht buyers that is a huge plus while others will see it as an unnecessary extra cost given how they plan to use the yacht.

Here in the USA it is about state taxes too. Let me offer an example of JUST how confiscatory some states can be re. even automobiles. Once upon a time, while living in California, I bought a car on Ebay in Missouri. I paid the sales tax on the car there, but when I went to pay the registration fee in California the state insisted not only on their registration but on the DIFFERENCE between the tax I paid in Missouri and their tax rate--this on a transaction that took place hundreds of miles away under an entirely different jurisdiction! But that's the game. I know that for boats bought in Florida, as many are, you have a certain number of days to get the boat OUT of Florida waters before you have to pay them despite the fact that your home and the boat's home port to be are elsewhere. It makes one happy in a way that all 50 states are not on coasts or major lakes or rivers! :)

Please do a video about how yacht size (length and gross tonnage,) affects the regulations relating to owning and operating a yacht.

If anyone needs an example of consequences of getting correct tax advice when buying a yacht, look no further than the Canadien gentleman who bought the 120 foot Nordhavn. That one wound up in the courts for years and tax authorities had a field day!

After 18 years 6 ocean crossings and circumnavigation in a 12m catamaran I built I love watching your vids. What I would like to know before I check the Euro lottery is a) when we buy our explorer yacht through you how much of the furnishings are normally left on board and b) how is storage arranged for all the furniture that for the most part seems as though it would enjoy a real walkabout in a heavy sea?? We do enjoy your presentations I must say very professional and audience-appealing! One further question. I have UK yacht master (sail) do these beasts require a full commercial Captains certificate.?

The answer depends on a few topics, one that I have used was getting my sailboat USCG Documented costs about $400.00 first time then $90.00 per year after that. Making you and the USCG owners of your vessel. Say there’s a humanitarian crisis and your vessel is near the crisis and the USCG wants to use your vessel to aid the situation they can barrow it. Warning most Coasties don’t know how to operate a sailboat without hitting things like channel markers, (personal experience).

you can use a yacht for 18 months in the eu when you did not pay the VAT on purchase in europe and left the eu timely, due to living outside. But its unfortunately still more complicated when you start looking into flags and actually residential location. not paying in the EU does not automatically mean you do not pay as in many countries you need to import and can only avoid that temporarily, depending also on where owners is from and status.

In a country with very little or no yacht taxes buy a small home and open a local business that sells drop shipped Alibaba items online. It'll likely cost you much less than the taxes in your country, you might make money on the business, and you'll have another home which will, of course, appreciate in value. Realize that if you claim to pay taxes on your yacht in that country, you'll also legally need to pay your income taxes in that country.

Ill give the basics on the USA, and you can fill in all the holes when you do your video. In the US, there are three basic taxes on a boat. 1.) Federal tariff on an imported vessel, with certain countries penalized extra, such as China with I think a 25% tariff penalty. 2.) State sales tax, varies by state...some have none, most range from 4-7%. Some states don't tax boats even though they have a sales tax, such as Rhode Island-and there are some loop holes here to avoid the state sales tax and 3.) Local property tax-which is paid annually to the town where the vessel is berthed

Lol No one's paying tax on a large yacht. Vessel, Crew, Helicopters etc are all managed from separate offshore companies. It's only us "plebs" that volunteer our taxes. For charter - But NOT available sounds familiar ;-)

Hello David You can sell a 10 year old vessel today, you do that constantly. But, can you sell a new 2 year old yacht in 8 years? The move to more efficient and Eco-friendly vessels is clear. Remember, oil will be 2,3,4,5,6x the price in the future, we are not investing in oil, but the demand is still rising. Should one sell their 2 year old ASAP? (I do not own a yacht)

It's so important to have a proper tax strategy to cover purchase and operation and eventual sale and keep that strategy updated, not just to cover VAT/IVA/TVA there's corporation tax, withholding taxes, benefit in kind. Also important to keep it updated as your VAT status can be lost if you are not careful. A full strategy or VAT assurance project can be done by our Equiom Team.

Taxes, Here in British Columbia, Canada it gets really odd. If I go to Washington State and buy a yacht, the Washington sales tax must be paid ( 10% ? ) if I want to bring it into BC and register it in Canada, 7.5% Provincial Sales Tax + 5% GST + 9% Yacht Import tax ( thank the gods they got rid of the TRUMP tax of 10% for anything from the States ) has to be paid as well. and yes, we have to pay the sales taxes to bring it into BC even if it was purchased outside of BC. If the hull was ever registered in Canada then we do not need to pay the import tax on it even if you buy it registered in another country.

If I should get into a lot of money and buy a superyacht from outside EU example USA. I have to pay punitive tariffs for the yacht. Thereafter I shall pay ordinary tax for the superyacht.

4:06 how is it a reduced rate if you're paying VAT @ a minimum rate of 5.4% on your monthly installments? Assuming VAT is lower than 30% if you paid it as a lump sum on a full cash purchase, if you go the route of paying in installments, you're still paying double the standard rate in monthly VAT payments over a 12 month period. Re running a twin engine boat on 1 engine saves fuel and wear. Both are false, yes you will see a little fuel savings but, you need to run the engine at higher revs for the speed over twin engines and in doing so you create more wear. There is also the parasitic drag caused by the prop on the non working engine.

There are a lot of Yachts calling themselves explorer, but what are the truly Explorer Yachts? CDM, Bearing, Nordhavn, Horizon. Who really make an explorer yacht that can take the high seas. With that saying 35' degree rolls andi 20+ feet waves on a pleasure yacht would be rather unpleasant

Sawatdeekap David, How does the tax apply to a private sale or 'gift' of a yacht on the seller and buyer? Example, In most countries if you sell your car privately for lesser value than you originally paid for it, you simply transfer ownership, and no one ever bothers you for a 'tax stamp' or whatever. Does this not apply to yachts? I'm asking because I may make an offer on a private sale Riva Bahamas in a nearby country with 7% tax. Thailand also has 7% VAT - which is where I am based. I have a retirement visa in Thailand and a Thai tax ID #. I'd rather not deal not deal with Bangkok's convoluted nightmare of a bureaucracy...Siam is paradise but the legal system is kinda bizarre. If it matters, I have four passports in countries I could theoretically claim registry: Russia, Macedonia, Germany, and Canada
