You know, the fact Chris was starting to get choked up when saying he hoped that this series would put a smile on someone's face when having a bad day is incredibly sweet. I personally have had an insanely rough past few weeks. So I decided to watch this series in full for the first time (I had seen 3-4 before as they were the first of his videos I'd watched), and I'm so glad I did. I loved every video in this series; I learned a lot and had numerous laughs. So Chris, I can definitely say you got your wish. Chris should win an award for this series. The amount of creativity, the entertainment value, the sights and sounds of Japan that were so perfectly brought right to our screens is really like a magic. I love the whole "travel guide while doing a cycling challenge" concept, the variety of having several interesting personalities join as guests, the comedic interactions between friends, the daily challenges that kept me on the edge to see how things would pan out for the day, and of course the birth of Dr Jelly Commercials. Even the things that seemed like "mishaps" like the rain, the bike breaking, things not working out as planned during your journey made it more real and engaging on hindsight (although I can empathise with how frustrating and painful it might have been at that time, but just hope to say that these seemingly darker parts make Journey across Japan as authentic and outstanding as it is, because we all know that life isn't perfect and being too perfect would just look scripted.) I'm just really thankful for this series and I've even watched a few of the videos more than once (that shows it's rewatch potential). Although I'm a bit late to the party (these videos were filmed in 2018), but I feel that there's no better time I could have watched them as I really miss travelling to Japan because I can't due to the pandemic and these videos are helping me tide through those feelings. Thank you so much !

Your videos has opened my eyes to a Japan outside of Tokyo which was my focus for many years. Now, when I make my Journey across Japan I may not even go to Tokyo. That being said, I laughed my head off when you stated you were doing this with no prep or experience and I felt sorry for you when I realised you were editing every video despite having a team with you. 4 hours sleep and cycling 50km should only be done during wartime emergencies. The product was great and would love to see more but whilst you maintain a good level of health and sleep. It may have reduced the f words and sarcasm levels. But I low key enjoyed it but realised that major sponsors would have swerved you because of it. Well done.

5:23 As someone who watched every episode, I can say that I watched it all as a unique travel vlog. It never felt like a weightloss or cycling series, but more like a series that introduces an interesting and much more adventurous way of touring Japan as opposed to just "take this train to this train to this train and boom, there you are." I think that's what I liked most about it.

That's what it felt to me, and what made it interesting for me. An adventure across japan as you would not really see anywhere else. Plus, you cycled 2000km!!! TWO THOUSAND! Ridiculous! I’ve been on my own weight loss journey since September 2022 and lost nearly 60 pounds. The kicker? I’ve barely exercised this whole time 😂 the biggest part of weight loss is what you actually eat as I’m sure you figured out with Journey Across Japan. Please go back to Matsuyama and see Kazu again! I love her personality. She reminds me a lot of Natsuki. And show us more of Hiroyuki from Niigata City. I detect a bit of that dry British humor from him, and that’s the only time I’ve seen him on your channel.

I mean it inspired me to seriously want to visit Japan and I've been saving this year to make it happen next year. What I loved about the series and about this whole channel is how it doesn't really have much to do with the Japanese pop culture stuff like anime and manga and cafes and cosplay etc. Don't get me wrong I like my weeby otaku goodness as much as anyone else. But this channel is the one that really made me want to go and visit the country. The shimanami kaido cycle is now my next bucket list goal, that looked incredible!

Honestly I think learning that you can’t do everything yourself is one of the hardest lessons in life. You don’t really know what your limit is until you’ve pushed yourself past it. I learned that myself this year when I took 4 project classes, 1 normal class, running a club, and working a part time job. It was ridiculous. My grades are worse, my projects didn’t meet my personal expectations, and I was always over worked and burned out. I feel like overall I came out a wiser and more experienced person, but man did it take a toll. Tbh I really liked Journey Across Japan, I could tell a lot of work went into it. I watched every episode and it’s one of my favorite series on KZfaq despite being nothing like what I usually watch. I hope what you do next is even better now that you’ve gotten a little wiser. 🙂

This is honestly one of the best travel adventures. It feels fresh from the usual content I watch on KZfaq while still being brutally honest and sarcastic. Yeah, there were shortcomings and honestly you were right about that, but you can take what you learn moving forwards right? You're failing forward. What you've shown is honestly a breathtaking view of Japan's sights to those who can't go at the moment and glimpse of the wonderful world you let us see through you, your guests and your narrative. I honestly astounded at the production quality of this. However next time maybe do a test run for a new editor and let someone help you so you can focus on creating the content too and enjoy yourself! Great series to binge through!

Chris- these were some of my favourite videos on youtube- end of. Watching from the first episode, I felt the struggle with you from the start. Having watched your videos for a long time prior, it felt really unusual to see you going on an adventure that was clearly anything other than scripted. The first day it poured down on you, I found myself shouting at the screen for you to just take a break. But you soldiered on- for us. That matters man. When the videos slowed down, we were all genuinely worried about you. Some updates would have been nice, just to reduce the related-anxiety as a viewer and fan. Howeve, the culmination of this adventure is a series of beautiful, heart-warming, educational, inspirational, funny and genuinley superb videos, chronicalling the Journey. I don't think I'll ever get the theme song out of my head... (can we have a link to it please? I need to add it to my music collection). This series was a delight to watch- as are most of your other videos. It would be great if you went back to a weekly video again- mix it up between the ones where you just talk to us in your room and the ones where you show us amazing places. Thank you chap. Thank you so much.

NOTIFICATION SQUAD: Who’s ready for Abroad on a Skateboard?! On a serious note, I am genuinely sorry guys for my poor handling of Journey Across Japan. It's kind of sad that that you feel the release schedule put a cloud over the project. I loved Journey Across Japan. It was one of the best web-series I've ever seen. I was excited for every episode, and if I had to wait a long time for an episode to come out, that just made me anticipate it more. I would stop whatever I was doing an play the episodes on my TV whenever they were uploaded. I'd much prefer to wait a long time for something and have it be good than have a consistent schedule and it's mediocre. Nobody was disappointed by what you produced, and any disappointed that resulted from production delays was more than made up for when we got the episodes. And I didn't get the sense that it didn't know what it wanted to be. It firmly felt like a travel show, with the cycling being a twist that made it unique. I hope you'd consider doing a redux for the east coast next year. Now that you have the experience, you could safely film all of it and not worry about editing until the trip is entirely over, at which point you can put the videos out daily, or weekly or whatever. Also, now that you've established a format, it would be easier to hire an editor or assistant editor. Schedule in some days off of filming on the way and you've got a bulletproof plan. Whatever you end up doing next though, I'm sure it's gonna be great!

Hey Chris, I did my own cycle trip across Japan 13 years ago (Nagasaki to Wakkanai) while I was single and I stumbled across your series just this month and binged watch it with my wife. We absolutely LOVED it. So many fond memories of cycling and meeting people, and some deja vu moments (I received Yakult instead of biscuits) as well. Through your videos I was able to tell my wife more about my journey as well and relive some of those wonderful cities I passed through. Wanted to say thank you so much for the series (I too was burnt out mentally and physically towards the end and stopped blogging) and it was by no means a let down in any way. Looking forward to your next adventure! (or just release the unreleased episodes...haha)

So no, I wouldn't have any regrets if I got the chance to do something like this - it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. So to the haters, screw you - I'd like to see you guys do what Chris did and upload daily with excellent quality videos. But what you did give us was an amazing journey through a country that a lot of us will never get to see with our own eyes. You also gave us a lot of laughter along the way. I genuinely feel, like most high achievers (though Chris may disagree) that he's being too hard on himself. I could care less about the upload schedule - for me, the real charm of the Journey Across Japan series was how informative and enjoyable it was, without being over-the-top, artificial or gimmicky. There are way too many travel channels on youtube that resemble nothing so much as the endless scroll of an instagram feed: a narcissistic focus on the youtuber's hijinks (and at least one (1) obligatory swimsuit shot), rather than the location itself. Journey Across Japan genuinely stood out because it allowed viewers to immerse themselves, in a sense, into each new place and culture. I learned so much with each video, and have an even larger bucket-list now for when I finally visit Japan. tl;dr: JAJ is balloons. Totally worth it.
