Skyler, thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am in my 70's and have no plans on starting a channel, but was curious how it all works. I used to just watch you tube videos, then I learned the importance of giving a "like". Now I "like" the videos that I really like to reward that person for the time they spent or the information they provided. Of course you got a "like" and my first comment on a video. I also appreciated your integrity and ethics. Thanks again, take care.

Thanks for putting out what it's like for a small channel. One thing that you didn't touch on was just how much time it takes to film and edit the videos. Sometimes people don't realize that you're earning less than minimum wage putting these out and that it's more about doing something you love rather than for the money. - Chris

Skyler, TRULY appreciate your candor and transparency here. This is incredibly generous of you and honestly, It's impressive to know what someone faces when starting out and clearly you're doing it correctly here with the monetization factors. But in the end, you said it perfectly, just have fun and do what you feel is best for you and have fun. Great advice! Keep up the good work and thank you for being so open to the public on this!

Skyler, I just wanted to say I’ve been watching you almost since the beginning. I admire your creativity and natural style of explaining what’s going on. I guess the photography channel helped with that. It’s amazing to see know you’ve only been woodworking for a year or so, yet bring such good content. I’ve been doing it for 40 years, and learning from you, like about lasers. Really appreciate how you explained how KZfaq works. Keep it going, looking forward to the next video. Maybe bowl turning?

Skyler, Thank you for your channel & being so transparent. I’ve kicked the idea around to start a KZfaq channel for wood working. My career for 50+ yrs was Photography-mainly portraits & Weddings-I got burnt out. Now my hobby for most of those yrs was woodworking. However right now I’m more interested in organizing my shop & honing my skills-not starting another 9-5 ( more like 24|7) fun is more important now than $$$. Keep up the great work ❤️it. That was the best explanation of monetizing a KZfaq channel that I've seen. And I have been impressed with all the wood projects or demos you've done. I'm at a loss as to why you would get rude comments, unless it was from your competition. All anyone's accented speech indicates is that you speak more than one language. So you are really way ahead of most Anericans! I watch mostly the sailing channels for enjoyment and learning additional skills. I do my own DIY cabinetry when renovating my boat's interior. I'm thinking of making some hideaway places in the cabinetry on my boat, for valuables . If you think of any ideas along that line, add it to your video projects. I, for one, would appreciate some new ideas.

Very nice and useful video. I subscribed to your channel. You talk calmly and quite clearly about the development of a KZfaq channel, unlike many other bloggers who falsely brag about winnings that they have never seen.. I believe you and agree with you! But one more thing should be said... the payments are different for America, Europe, Asia and Russia... The best pay is in the USA, but the money is not much and barely enough to live in the big city.. With KZfaq you won't become real millionaires, but there will be some income.

Your explanations of revenue types make your viewers more aware of how they can support and interact with your content. Your productions are spot on - no hype, no click bait - only honest opinion, and I like that. I have a couple of small suggestions that I think will improve your viewers' enjoyment. When you hold a piece up to the camera for a focused & detailed view, hold it still for a second rather than continually moving it. Sure, I can pause the video, but when I do the focus is degraded. When you want to point out a fine detail in the piece, set it on the table where it will remain still, and use a pointer (a pen or an awl - but not your finger) to bring the viewer's eye to precisely what you want to highlight. What makes your content valuable to me is the instructions you give, the things to avoid and why, and your not spending half your time showing yourself sanding. I notice you do crack a smile from time to time, but it is still subdued. Practice an exaggerated grin before going on camera, and your smiles will become more natural, which makes the viewer feel more comfortable with you. When I decide to buy something from Amazon, I will go to one of your videos, click on one of your Amazon links, and then buy my intended item. I trust that will provide you some value even if I do not purchase one of the products you "advertise". I am a bandsaw box maker (I give them away rather than sell them), but I make a lot of "design changes" (mistakes?) in the process. I am going to start making more boxes such as you show, because your methods are not difficult for my skill level. Thank you for your honest work.

Skyler, I really appreciate your explaining how this KZfaq world has worked for you. I understand your stated insecurity as to the quality of your work being sufficient to start selling it. People just seem to love the handmade and not see the imperfections you do. Making the same thing over and over is not much fun though. I'm working towards always improving my skills and making interesting stuff I haven't made before. Design is such an important part of the whole process, I think. I am learning from you even though I have been doing this for 50 years.

Thank you for the transparent look. I am in the same niche group as you are, although I run my channel almost entirely without getting in front of the camera myself. Seeing the kind of possibilities for making money doing videos was nice to see in a group that is more applicable to me. I tend not to look at too many "How Much Money I made on KZfaq" videos, because the creators making those videos are never within my niche, and in some cases, I tend to think their numbers are more click-baity. Thanks for the fresh look from inside my niche, and for the transparency. I look forward to looking at more of your videos!

I am glad that you did this video. Eventhough you are a small channel, you kept it real in disclosing what you make from KZfaq. I hope to launch my channel some day, and I am super nervous about it. I do woodworking as well. You are right about putting your spin on things eve if there are a lot of videos on the same topic. From watching other woodworker videos, many of them do just about the same thing, but they put their own twist to it. Like a cutting board video "if you seen one you've seen them all" but I have seen so many different ways to make a cutting board, that now I will make cutting board videos and show what I can do. Keep up the awesome work.

Thank you so much. Yes, you should do it now. Don’t wait till you are ready. Do it before you are ready. You will learn the ropes of KZfaq as you go. I remember posting my first video ever. I posted and kept in on unlisted for two weeks being afraid to publish it. Then one night after a few glasses of wine I pushed the button and made it public and went to bed. I woke up terrified that I would have negative feedback or comments and to my surprise nobody saw my video, no views, no comments. It took about a week to get a handful of views and it took about a month to get my first 15 subscribers.

Thank you Skyler! We have had our channel for a couple of years and we've grown it slowly because of the lack of time we have to dedicate to it. We are now in a position to be able to put more time into the channel but the one thing that holds us back is video editing. We have a camera and an iphone but it is always so confusing when I try to upload and edit. I'm very tech savvy too, which makes it even more frustrating. We are woodworkers and also build and refinish furniture as well as offer woodworking classes. Thank you for this video as we are also monetized and our average RPM is $3-6 but we need to get our subscribers and views up. Hopefully as we are able to put more time into the channel, we will be able to create better content and bring in more revenue.

Thanx for sharing... your analytics are amazing for such a young channel... I've been going for around 6 years now and I'm making less than a quarter of your revenue... I made many mistakes on my channel... every time my channel started doing well, I ruined it by starting to introduce different types of content... It's taken me a couple of years, but I am slowly starting to pull my channel out from all the holes I dug for myself, by sticking to the type of content that got me some success early on... I get very discouraged sometimes when I think about where my channel could have been if I didn't make all those stupid mistakes... Anyway, thanx again... and Sub'd

Thank you for explaining, for years I have thought of doing a Vlog or Utube making money as a side hustle. I do ok being retired, but I love to learn and find other ways to generate income. Making sure I have enough money throughout my retirement years learning other ways. I also think it looks fun and challenging.

Hi Skyler, I really enjoy your videos. They are well presented, despite the limited editing :) As to the laser issue… I noticed that they can infer the “best”. Not your fault, but I don’t watch those types from any channel. Rarely do they really compare different products. I didn’t watch yours, so I cannot say whether yours were different. But, as you mentioned, it is a trust issue. When a channel becomes a running list of product commercials, I unsubscribe. I have a laser, and watch the how-to/tips from several creators, but they have to tie into my overall woodworking efforts. I will have to go watch your Falcon one, I am intrigued by the inlays. Keep doing you! It will all balance out, I am sure. As you said about starting YT to several comments, just start making products to sell, yesterday! Your unique boxes are beautiful.

Thanks for sharing this Skyler. I guess at the end of the day, if you are having fun, well not the editing bit of it clearly, but in general, and you are getting a bit of money coming in too, then it is a good feeling. With YT you have to have a hobby or interest that people will spend time watching, and it is hard to differenciate yourself from the rest of the pack. But clearly you are doing something right as your RPM is moving in a positive direct. In terms of your content, I have watch the majority of your videos and always find something of interest or something I did not know. i am not a huge woodworker but dabble a bit when I get the time, so your videos do help people, they have certainly helped me. Keep it up and I look forward to the next one.

Very interesting, Skyler. I've been a subscriber for a couple of months and have been impressed at the rate you've been putting videos out, and the quality of them as well. I can see your channel growing from strength to strength. Your videos have just enough info and pitched very well. I wanted to know: if you went from say 8K subs to 80K subs, would your ad revenue scale 10x as well? (Assuming the rate of engagement, likes and comments also scaled)

Thank you for revealing things that not many talk about. And being transparent. It seems that many hide things like it's a big secret, or like a dog with a bone growling at you if you get too close. I personally try to help as many people as I can.

Thank you for this detail. Many of us are considering starting a KZfaq channel but don't know how to get started or know if it is worth our time and effort. You did a great job with your explanation. I'd be curious how much of your time is spent on the craft vs. the technical time putting together the videos and doing the channel management. I worry that the management time will rob me of my craft/hobby time. It's much more fulfilling to build the craft than it is to do the video editing, etc. As in photography, it's much more enjoyable to shoot the photograph than sit and edit it as well as run a business around it. It is apparent that teaching something is much more valuable than the creation of something. I wish you more success with both of your channels.

Thank you. I would say is 50/50. Now you could spend a ton more time editing but I do the minimum and try to manage time where it’s still worth putting the effort.

I usually don't comment much but I think if you want to make money on KZfaq then the only people you have to make happy are the ones that run KZfaq. Trying to keep us entertained while making them happy can't be easy. But I think you are doing fine as far as I am concerned. I like your topics and your better to look at then some dude over acting waving his hands in the air like he took some cheap acting lessons. Thumbs up.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It is so nice to see how KZfaqrs get their money and why content and personality is so important. It will be easy to spot the people who care for their viewers and the ones who are looking for the dollars. Maybe you can show us how complicated it is to shoot just part of a video . I appreciate taking the time, because you always do a great job. I also see how best to reward you. Respect from your friends in Florida 🌴 Vă mulțumim foarte mult pentru că ne-ați împărtășit acest lucru.

Great video for those starting out, no flimflam as so many others do. For me I have always struggled to get my rpm up and as a art KZfaqr with 23,000 plus subs it struggles as a average of $ 100 ad revenue a month, clearly I am doing something wrong lol. I am new to your channel, and was drawn by your clear revenues of laser engravers. A new fan thank you, cheers Paul

Yes was me, As well as wanting it to create scaled models for my diorama buids on my model railway. I have come to realise that I could make some useful bi - products of my artworks. from drawings of wildlife and paintings to, adding a new dimension to my artworks in my gallery. What I do not want to do is spend so much money and have it sitting in my studio gathering dust. For you are a great woodworker and I am sure have great outrlets to get an income from your investment. As an artists and art teacher I get little time to play as I would like, so need to consider this purchase before committing. Lol that said this weekend there are good offers on the 40 watt including honeycomb and air assist for 2399 UK. @@woodworkingwithSkyler
