How My Hip Pain Turned Out To Be Stage 4 Cancer

This is a short story about the series of confusing events that took place that led me to be diagnosed with stage four testicular #cancer
From a deadly car accident that killed my best friend and shattered my pelvis, to a painkiller addiction that stopped me from seeking help due to the #fear of being labeled a pill-head.
I spent nearly four months dealing with increasingly severe pain. Until it got so bad one night that I drove myself to the ER and practically crawled to the front-desk.
That was the start of my journey with cancer.
Now I’m not only fighting to live, but also to preserve the life I’ve built.
Like many cancer patients, medical bills, rent, house and credit card bills and expenses threaten to destroy my livelihood.
My best friend created a “go fund me” page where friends, family, and complete strangers have all been supporting me in an incredible way.
Any support is greatly appreciated.

God bless you my brother. Thank you. I came here because I workout and lift weights 6 days a week. Best shape of my life at age 41. But my right hip has had a dull ache that sometimes moves to my thigh. Also pain in my left going at times. I had x rays done on my hip and was told all they seen was arthritis. Had x rays done on my left groin and they found nothing either. Now trouble urinating and emptying my bladder so all signs point to some form of cancer and my father died of metastasis lung cancer stage 4 about 5 years ago. So I’ve been real nervous wondering if I have a form of cancer myself. As of right now no one has found anything. I’m have a prostate exam coming up with a urologist and real nervous about it. Just want to send love & prayers your way my brother and say thank you for being so forthcoming to try and help others.

So sorry. My sister had Brest cancer in 2021 was treated and was in remission. Then 6 months ago she had constant back pain and went to the doctor gave her medication and she could hardly walk. They didn’t give her a mri or blood test. She went private got a mri scan. It showed up cancer in the spin. She was in hospital for 2 weeks. It’s spread to her ribs, spine, back of neck, hip and liver. She is getting chemo and radio .

Hi andrew thank you for sharing your story as this will help a lot of people , Andrew is have always been healthy fit , registered nurse , and last July i became very unwell . Vomiting , fatigue , rash at night , water could not keep anything down , doctors oh a virus , i was not overweight to start with . But i was losing weight . Two dress sizes down to size 8 but i looked sick , tried to work but i was not coping as vomiting day . Only for my daughter , she took me to a different doctor I ended up in hospital for 9 days , severe dehydration as well , kidney function dropped from over 70 to 7 . After test but took another 6 weeks . Multiple myeloma ( blood cancer ) so im 7 months in but they are monitoring me as cancer in the bone marrow , not moving and i feel they’re just letting me live my life , as treatment is 3 years and stem cell transplant , like you Andrew i had horrible back pain and its oh i am a nurse and I’m 60 nursing many years , but this cancer effect your bones , all i hear as a patient and a nurse most people miss diagnosed or sent away too young too old oh no , cancer does not discriminate , wishing you all the very best , ❤❤

FYI: Conservative state or not, surprisingly, having cancer is not automatically considered a disability. Many people have cancer and most will recover or live for many more years. Many women I work with who have had breast cancer had chemo, radiation treatments, and/or surgery and they worked throughout their treatment. They were sick to their stomach, chronically tired, in pain, lost their hair, developed neuropathies, felt uncomfortably cold much of the time... most were nurses who worked in the OR where the rooms are cold and that compounded their discomfort of already feeling cold from loss of hair + the side effects of their cancer treatments. All passed their 5 year mark, so no deaths from breast cancer. Even having chronic pain is not an automatic disability. Debilitating arthritis is the #1 health condition for getting disability. That was my diagnosis and in a liberal/Democrat-run state I was turned down the first time. I was over 60, had a very physical job, yet I could not do my own self-care completely at home, i.e., dressing, washing, combing my hair, etc., yet they felt that I could perform total patient care at the hospital, push heavy beds/equipment, turn heavy patients, etc.. They also consider your age. The younger you are, under 50, they believe that you can find another form of employment to accommodate your disability, and they don't care that it is a much lower paying job. It was a conservative-leaning judge who granted me disability the second time around and went on record saying that he "strongly disagreed with the state's findings and their denial of my disability claim. Sometimes it feels like a crap shoot. Most people who apply are denied. The second time you apply, the odds are even less.

I am so sorry. You seem like such a good person and no way you deserve this. Right now I am going through one of those weird pains after exercise, I barely did my exercise bike and my knee was burning, hot and bright red for days, keeping me awake. I haven’t been to the doctor for it, I’ve just been taking ibuprofen and trying to stay off of it, but I messaged him today to tell him about it and I took a photo. Hopefully I can get into an MRI or CT scan because it’s definitely not normal. It’s so hard to get doctors to take you seriously sometimes.

I had a pituitary tumor removed (Cushing's Disease) via Transpheniodal adenectomy going up my nose and through the nasopharyngeal area and sphenoid sinus. Eight years later I developed stage 4 nasopharyngeal cancer that had spread to my skull and neck and chest lymph nodes. Due to my lack of adrenals, I was originally deemed terminal. That was almost 7 years ago.
