I had a migraine like 8 years ago that got so bad I almost had a stroke so the doctor says. But over course of like 10 hours it went from bad headache to double vision to vomiting and a stabbing pain so bad it felt like a machete was stuck in my head and someone had the handle shaking it. My words became impossible for any of my family to understand and so they took me to the ER, which was what I was trying to ask but couldn’t produce the proper words. The ER thought I was on drugs so they left me in a hallway for 3 hours while my blood work was done, slowly I assume because they thought I was really high. Once they saw I wasn’t doctors flooded from everywhere and I was curled into some very weird position they had to undo themselves. I say all that to say I tried migraine meds in the beginning and ibuprofen later and neither touched it but within the first 10 seconds of morphine going in almost all pain was completely gone and I could speak normal. Within the first minute I had zero pain. So I know this is just a funny video but morphine is an outstanding pain killer vs ibuprofen. I do understand the risks that come with it but man was it a life saver for me.
@tylisirn Жыл бұрын
There's really varying response to morphine depending on your metabolism. For some it does basically nothing useful (not counting getting high useful), for others it works great. And some unfortunates it makes nauseous, so it's worse than useless. And finally for some it does nothing useful directly, but the high makes them not care about the pain, so it kind of works, but not in the intended way.

Sadly enough, a C1 subluxation can very well be the cause. No one would even think to get an upright upper cervical MRI for something like this, but when you know what to look for you can eyeball it on a Zoom call and palpate it in seconds. The CSF gets blocked and tonsil drainage in the brain is compromised leaving the person's brain swimming in a swill of pressure building and the person's pain is so bad they usually shut down and are immobile until the pressure is relieved. Migraines sadly shorten a person's lifespan too. Less of them is truly more in this scenario. Most hospitals would never ever think to explore a mechanical cervical problem, but that's what we're here for (people who do this specific work). So if you ever have a crippling migraine, never rule out an upper cervical issue as the cause before taking ANY meds of ANY strength to relieve the pain. Because they probably won't work. Note she said, "muscles relaxed". That's a muscular issue from very hypertonic neck and shoulder soft tissue. In a jammed C1, pressure is not relieved until it's not compressing the garden hose boring a literal hole in your skull like a pressure washer filled with CSF (cerebral spinal fluid).

Morphine and other opiates don't relieve pain. They let you ignore it. Unless you are someone (waves) who is so resistant to opiates that you are completely coherent while you should be near overdose levels. I maxed out my breakthrough pain intravenous and my pain was 12/10, and when the nurses and doctor were "why don't you push this button?" only to get the "no she ain't getting any more" alarm, that they realized that my declaration in ER was actually correct.
@improv61327 ай бұрын
Morphine really affects everyone differently. For me, personally, it makes me just not care about the pain. Similar to oxycodone (Percocet). The pain is still there, like I'm still in agony, but I no longer care about it and can ignore it if I so choose. It's a very trippy feeling, because you probably *should* care about pain. In college, a doctor prescribed Percocets for my migraines and they at least let me function when I had one, though I never opted for a refill since it was better to just treat it with Aleve and actually get rid of it.

I don't know about the hallucinations, but I truly think there are other issues with that drug. I was given phenegran at my university infirmary after throwing up a dozen or so times in just a few hours. They said it would help me get through the violent stomach bug without dehydrating further and stop vomitting. They also mentioned as an aside it might make me need a 1 to *maybe* 3 hour nap. I walked back to my dorm. It looked to me like the world around was starting to melt by the time I got there so I guess that was the hallucinations (was not warned of this). I got dizzy, lay down in my bed and... I didn't wake up again for 20 hours... not only that, when I came to, it took several hours more to talk coherently and move. Scared my roommates half to death. I don't want to be dramatic but I feel kindof lucky I woke up at all... I told the infirmary what happened but they didn't really say anything and just switched the subject. But I really want to know what on earth happened. I make a point of telling docs never to give me that stuff ever again!

Yay to the morphine being an awful thing. When I got run over by a car and got my collarbone broken, they gave me some. It didn't do squat for the pain, but did reduce my (normally quite high) ability to endure said pain, and also gave me horrendous nausea. Flash forward to three days later when I had surgery to fix my collarbone, and they just jammed me with more of the stuff without asking. Guess who left in horrible pain and trying hard not to blow chunks? They even gave me two full bottles of the stuff to take at home if I felt like the pain was too much. I never even opened them and handled myself with high doses of ibuprofen. It only reduced the pain a little, but at least it didn't make me want to puke and didn't mysteriously remove my ability to endure pain without weeping.

The brain tingle quickly turned into a headache, then gradually into a migraine...and then, came the nausea.. The next 9 hours I will always remember as probably the most miserable in my life. Having had ipecac in the past, you're totally right about the vomit volcano.

Sent this to my mom who’s a nurse (BSN, MSN, and about to get her doctorate) and she sent me a gif of SpongeBob doing the rainbow thing with his hands, but instead of saying “imagination” it said “Grand Reset”

Having three boys before our younger sister showed up, resulted in my father keeping a bottle of syrup of ipecac in his shaving kit along with a disposable razor and butterfly bandages for the many minor scalp wounds that didn't need stitches.

The description of morphine was spot on. I was on a morphine drip after surgery. All it did was make me scratch myself bloody (no exaggeration).

I'm reading through the comments and so confused lol. I have regular kidney stones, morphine almost always takes away the pain within 10 minutes of it being injected. I don't feel any high or euphoria either, just a slight warm feeling immediately after the injection. Does it really not do anything for so many people?

When they taught me about Naloxona (Narcan) in nursing school, they told me that the most important side effect was... to get punched. You see, when you have someone overdosing on heroine or other opioids, they may wake up suddenly and attack the first thing in sight. Some other will simply be annoyed that you killed their trip, and just attack you.

Some people just don't have the morphine receptors in their body so basically giving them morphine is really like giving them water for pain medicine--it won't work. I had a nurse friend who had that problem and told a nurse anesthetist that morphine doesnt work on her and the CRNA kept pumping her full of morphine. Finally, after about 15-20 mg, she was somewhat persuaded & tried a different opioid but remained skeptical.

I am not a first responder, or a responder at all, I'm the type of person that sees a really bad accident, and calls 911 and tells them what mile markers it at and no I'm not stopping or getting out. I don't want to see that s*** or have nightmares about it. But for some reason I freaking love these videos. When I started typing this comment I had a plan, I don't know where to plan went but I'm not rewriting it.

What dose are people giving on narcan? I keep seeing all this stuff about the side effects, and the people waking up swinging, etc but realistically that just hasn't been my experience. I know our dosing is pretty conservative, just targeting fixing the respirations rather than full reversal, but I've never really had to worry about how fast I give it?

I'm an EMT/Pharmacist's nightmare. I've got a pain doc because I've got some serious pain going on 100% of the time (Fibromyalgia and MS, myofacial pain syndrome, and CFS). I'm on Meloxicam, Savella, cyclobenzaprine, gabapentin, and Tramadol (breakthrough only). We don't take anything not on that list and my phone/tablet both are with me all the time and I have a medic alert bracelet. We just hope we never have to have the local EMTs over for anything except helping me out of the floor when I fall. :) Love to all the EMTs out there who answer the call.
