I'm learning a great deal from these window function videos. Its great to understand what's going on before diving in and starting to use them in my own reports. You have structured your examples really clearly so they are easy to follow and understand. Many thanks.

Thanks for the video! This is very helpful :) I'm wondering how to apply this to my case, where I have a calendar table, dim table and two fact tables. I would like to calculate the running total of a measure that sum values from both fact tables and having the dates and the dim in the table. Would it be possible to get this to work? Thanks!!

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. In the summarize you can add the column that you need the running total by and it should work. Let me know if you need further help. Thanks!

Hi I tried your DAX measure to calculate running total in my model but it does not work! So I went backwards and use 1, ABS in both positions to see if I get the first value everywhere and surprisingly even doing that, I am getting the values for each row item. Any idea what could be wrong?

Hi Ackbar, It is because you have a single table and _calculate_ is converting row context to filter context. Try this measure: _SUMX ( WINDOW ( 1, ABS, 0, REL, SUMMARIZE ( ALL ( 'Table' ), 'Table'[Job Title], "@sum", [Sum] ), ORDERBY ( 'Table'[Job Title] ) ), [@sum] )_

Sorry about that. Actually, I was at a different setup and was not using my regular mic, and realized the audio quality after the video was recorded. I wish I have recorded it again but it is hard to go back and redo everything. Will try to make sure the quality of the audio and video is good, and most importantly the video contents are rich and useful. Thanks, and please keep bringing valuable feedback. Best!

Hello. I have a problem with this measure that I can't understand. This measure works very well: SUMX ( WINDOW ( 1, abs, 0, rel, SUMMARIZE ( ALL ( 'FACT_SALES' ), 'DIM_PRODUCT'[DIM_PRODUCT_ID], "@sum", [Sales Netto PLN]) ,ORDERBY([@SUM], desc)), [@sum] ) But this doesn't: SUMX ( WINDOW ( 1, abs, 0, rel, SUMMARIZE ( ALL ( 'FACT_SALES' ), 'DIM_PRODUCT'[DIM_PRODUCT_ID], "@sum", [Sales Netto PLN xTD) ,ORDERBY([@SUM], desc)), [@sum] ) The difference is that measure Sales Netto PLN is a classic sum measure nad sales netto pln xTD is a "to date" measure. It means that it sums sales but within a period chosen on a slicer (date range between SALES_DATE_ID from FACT_SALES). I can't get it to work.

Hi there, Can you share the expression of _[Sales Netto PLN xTD]_ measure. Also, it will be easier if you can create a sample pbix file and share it with the expected output, it will help to understand the issue. Thanks!

@@PowerBIHowTo Sorry, I can't create a pbix, but here is sales netto pln xTD: var DateRange = MAX(DIM_DATE_RANGE[ID]) var DateEnd = MAX(DIM_DATE[DateID]) var DateStart = CALCULATE( MIN( DIM_CUMULATIVE_DATA_RANGE[START_RANGE_DATE] ), DIM_CUMULATIVE_DATA_RANGE[DATE_ID] = DateMAX, DIM_CUMULATIVE_DATA_RANGE[DIM_CUMULATIVE_RANGE_ID] = DateRange ) RETURN CALCULATE([Sales Netto PLN],All(DIM_DATE),FACT_SALES[SALES_DATE_ID]>=DateStart,FACT_SALES[SALES_DATE_ID]
