Yessss that had me in tears to think i didn't grow up seeing any of this from my parents ... I think often what would it have been like to hear the grown ups talking like this in the living room instead of house parties.

Mabel can't eat those compliments or feed them to her kids. Lol. Ms Giovanni was still very young and what I've learned is that you can never understand certain things unless you experience them. At 22 watching this is down with everything she said. By 46 watching it again, having lived a little longer and being married 20 plus years, I understand better what Mr Baldwin was saying.

Yep and it's because of Nikki Giovanni. She hated men and purposely tried to destroy black families.

But it's alot more, which are actually doing the part. Who we overshadow with this minority group of men who aren't. Black men are great fathers in 2023 and the statistics been showing this for well over a decade or close to it. We're just so strung on the negative. That it sounds like there are more deadbeats than the ones who do. And that's not factual.

Nikki speaks the truth, and a man who chooses "not" to support his wife and child is not a man. Period.

The women today have lost the softness. Even in her firmness and establishing her point she's soft and communicative. In return he's measured in the force with which he tries to affirm his position.

maybe I am not understanding what you are saying, but if I am why does everything have to be some weird fight for dominance? They are having a conversation and both seem to be spot on, why is a matter of "force" or "softness". Who is making sense? They both are.

Yes, and that was the importance of understanding that brilliant conversation. It is the kind of conversation we should all be having. At a point in American history where it looked like we would begin to get a break from white oppression, Nikki and James were a black man and black woman honestly attempting to work things out together, instead of acting like crabs in a bucket that the white man had put them into.

This interview says more about James Baldwin’s intellectual superiority over Nikki Giovanni, whose feeble interview driven by the “urge to merge “attempts at destroying him on national television. That particular part of the video made me scratch my head at NG. It just seemed that she was contradicting herself constantly and quite deliberately-in my opinion-to trip-up JB and possibly cause Him to say something incendiary or do like Oprah did Michael, or Gayle did Robert-guilty or not. Something that would enable Her ascension into the stratosphere, fueled by His destruction. I wish you all could read deeper into her words, her interjections, and her attempts at putting those words into His mouth.
