Nice video but it misses one important thing: quality control. As you get older, you learn something about Nintendo that most people can’t articulate: Nintendo is the Name Brand in gaming. They dont just make appealing games. They make mechanically rich games. Their games have few bugs. And their games are good GAMES. This laser focus on quality makes a Nintendo system a very easy purchase. If you’re in the know, then you know you have to have a Nintendo. Mario may be a kid’s game but that’s secondary to it being an excellent GAME. and when people feel it and play it, they’ll always eventually come back. That’s the hook.

As some of the other gamers in the comments are mentioning, it is crucial to understand that hardcore gamers also find Nintendo games appealing because of their incredibly creative gameplay. Other AAA companies try to make their games appealing due to graphics, physics, or a good story, but always on the side of realism. Nintendo goes crazy and doesn't really care about an "adult" storytelling, allowing the gamer to have a direct experience of sheer gameplay.

That maybe true, but sometimes I wish that maybe Nintendo could take some lessons from the triple AAA companies and go into depth with their stories and graphics. The high quality of the vast majority of Nintendo's first party titles helps set them apart. They command an air of respect that other companies lack. For example, when a new Legend of Zelda title comes out, it practically goes without saying that the game will be 1) be a massive financial success and 2) be near universally acclaimed by critics and fans alike. Nintendo has EARNED the trust of consumers in this regard.

I don’t think it has anything to do with gameplay, God of war, Elden ring, horizon zero Dawn all have innovative game play. Nintendo fans after a certain time have become irrationally loyal in their consumer habits. It’s similar to Disney. Something not mentioned here is that Nintendo games are major standouts because of their gameplay. Sure you can have amazing ray tracing graphics, in depth stories, multidimensional characters, but most games on Xbox and ps5 have pretty standard gameplay. For example, Mario odyssey is easy to pick up and finish the story. But the real game is finding and getting the moons. Many of which require immense skills. I don’t need to remember crazy amount of button controls, where the story is where I left off. Just simple gameplay that gets challenging.

@@0miy0 In an era that sees year after year of games trying too hard to become more like Hollywood movies, Nintendo just made a movie more like a game. I can't remember the last game I played where the story was what made it a good GAME. Nintendo gets that the best stories in games are ones that we want to tell our friends about later, not necessarily the ones that were storyboarded. It was often noted that Shigeru Miyamoto hates stories and loves "scenarios" or "conflicts." His influence at Nintendo is why we have so much more control over what happens in Nintendo games, relative to the more linear story-encumbered Western games. If you and your friends all played a story game, you likely had very similar, curated experiences that matched the creators' expectations. When you and your friends play a Nintendo game, you're all telling stories of what happened to you and how you overcame unique problems due to your choices. The emergent story is really special.

Also, Metroid, to a somewhat lesser extent. Secondly, they have a habit of sneaking in scary and dark content into their games on occasion, such as, well, basically half of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Splatoon's entire setting being the distant aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse that drove humanity to extinction (no, seriously, the games aren't even _subtle_ about it) and even Rosalina's backstory from Super Mario Galaxy explicitly revolves around the death of her mother and her coming to terms with it.

You missed possibly the biggest reason why Nintendo games and franchises are so successful - gameplay. In an industry driving towards cutting edge graphics but superficial and shallow gameplay, Nintendo goes against the grain by focusing on compelling gameplay first. Every single one of its franchises is built from the ground up as a gameplay concept executed incredibly and also changed up with each title. It's not about cinematics, story and realistic animation. That's not what makes games compelling, and Nintendo knows this better than anyone.

Have you ever seen a 3DS in person? It had a 600x600x400 screen, but had glasses-free 3D that doubled the horizontal resolution due to each eye seeing different pixels. It created the illusion of depth like the screen was a window into a diorama. This effect was phenomenal to everyone who had good eyesight, but for those with lazy eyes, poor eyesight, or weak eye muscles and difficulty focusing, it was very tiring. It was actually used by many pediatric optometrists and ophthalmologists to help diagnose vision problems. They managed to do something that felt far beyond 2020 technology in 2010, and they did it with the novel use of mature technology. Although I know I sacrifice online functionality (which I never purchase with my consoles to begin with). I currently play switch games on my PC for 4K resolution and 60fps (sometimes even 120fps, like in Metroid Dread). I buy the games to support the developers though! @@saxoman1 hopefully the deck 2 has a better ui, a bit more plug and play, and quiter fan. Even when I turn the power down to 9 watts the fan still rattles hard in games like forza and even smaller indie games. Personally I don't like emulation as it's not really power efficient or optimized, emulating switch games doesn't give you a decent battery life and you are sacrificing a bit in terms of controls. Performance is hit or miss personally, I tried to emulate citra games on my phone (samsung galaxy s20 fe) but I was only getting around 40fps on super smash bros and the controls bleh weren't good. Not to mention how much you have to go through to get the games on the system. Honestly I'd just prefer to buy the console if I'm really that desperate to play mario games. The biggest one though is graphical glitches in games. Lots of games distort the audio when playing at lower than 60fps on the emulation. I personally wouldn't buy a deck to play switch games when half of them have graphical issues, like nintendo switch sports and that one zela top down 3d game with the bugged invisible chain chomps when emulating.

It's still part of the Game Boy family of systems. The Game Boy Color is like the PS4 Pro. It's the Gameboy Advance that is It's own thing and has its own family of systems being the SP and Micro.

Other companies make games, Nintendo creates experiences, memories and fun. It's why almost every Nintendo console is looked back fondly, while most PlayStations and Xboxes end up being kind of forgotten after being replaced by their sucessors. It's also why Nintendo has a more pronounced fanbase. PlayStation appeals to the casual who just wants to play some FIFA or COD. Nintendo appeals to older and younger gamers who just love videogames

Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and various other household names Millions grew up with. That's what sets them apart from the competition and puts them on their own level, where they can do whatever they want and no one can say squat.

My favorite thing about Nintendo is when I have family or friends over we can play multiplayer games locally since there’s a good amount of titles that support local multiplayer that we prefer to play. Not saying PlayStation or Xbox dont have local multiplayer support but the titles I would want to play that support that 1 feature is usually Nintendo titles like Smash Bros, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, etc. Me and my friends used to do lan party’s with Xbox’s with up to 16 players in Halo but for some reason Microsoft/343 don’t want to include local multiplayer anymore in the newest Halo games and it just seems every game publisher just wants to connect every single player to a single console online just to play together which at that point I just whip out the switch. I know they have halo remastered trilogy but I sold that thing because it had so many bugs to the point where I was like this is a joke. Anyways that’s the 1 killer feature for me and portability on the go although my steam deck has been overtaking that part of the switch for me.

Numbers don't lie. People prefer a fun, rewarding, Simple, yet enjoyable gaming experience over which company can cram the most graphical power into a box. The competition makes games for gamers. Nintendo makes games for people.

I have no doubt that, Nintendo is way more better than these two, due to a huge fact Nintendo creates their own consoles and games with unique storylines and iconic personalities.

I think a good summary of Nintendo's principle is they make not what's necessarily new, but what works. Everything they make uses established tech that are accessible, low cost but has potential, from chips to controller tech to monitor technology. Even the OLED Switch abides by this rule - unlike Sony and PS Vita, they waited for OLED technology to become low-cost (-ish, anyway) and mature. It's like selling MS Excel/Word instead of ChatGPT. Not to say they're totally insensitive to the latest tech or business practices, but it takes solid results to convince Nintendo to take a giant leap from their current position.
