MOST vehicles use a MAF and MOST vehicles are throttle by wire, so I'd say you're not mistaken, you're just completely wrong about this sensor's importance. Most vehicles have two of these and provide opposing 5v signals. In a system that is throttle by wire, if you don't have two perfectly functioning throttle position sensor, you're not moving bud.
