Yes Jo, it’s been a “thing” for me since 2012 when I lost my first leg, and it’s a “thing” for me still. Due to other issues I have very little strength in my hands so putting suspension sleeves on is extremely difficult for me. Thankfully I have a wonderful prosthetist (don’t we all) who can assist me with changing my sleeves, bless his heart. I’ve also use the Velcro strap trick for many years (my wife’s a talented seamstress). Great video as always. Ken

I'm not an amputee but I have compression sleeves to prevent my joint from dislocating due to hEDS and they're available in black white and beige and I definitely like black better too ! I was talking about it with my [what ever is the English word for the doctor doing the orthesis] and I said that as I wear them every day and it's hard to wash white was not oman option, and even beige felt to light too. And she said "yeah black suits you well, and you are wearing medical equipment anyway so I think it's cool to own that and not try to hide it with skin colored material". And obviously there's nothing wrong with rather having discreet equipment but I personally do feel more empowered by owning the fact that I wear medical equipment and that is that shows and that I just go with it ! Also I have sleeves for my elbows and somehow wearing sleeves under t shirt makes me feel like sporty teenage boy and it gives me gender euphoria so that's double win.

You have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome? Same and I don't specifically like it, I get a lot of pain and dislocations in my legs more than my arms. I get bone pain too. Sometimes I wonder if it's better to have my leg amputated rather than suffered horrible pains

@@theeverythingkid yes I do I have way more pain in my legs that arms too. I've been using a wheelchair for a little over a year now and it's been life changing so far. I have almost no pain in my legs now (I still walk inside my home but since it's short distances and on flat ground + I'm not exhausted from walking anywhere else it works out for me) It's not the perfect solution for everyone but it worked out really well for me

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing this. I'm sure many people will find this useful. Speaking of losing coffee, I was teaching kindergarten years ago. I would pour myself a cup of coffee and take it to my room. After a few sips I would set is down, get busy, and forget all about it. Most days, I'd find 2 or 3 partially filled and cold cups of coffee around my room by the end of the day. I did get used to drinking cold coffee however. My kiddos like to tease me about this too.

Jo as I am a left BK amputee as well. I know your frustration. As a new right btk amputee, I struggle with the sleeve, and occasionally the liner. Yes, a new outta the bag sleeve is super frustrating to get around my prosthetic. Jo, was ur 'revision' because of bone issues? I ask cuz a few medical providers already are suggesting that my tibia bone is far too 'pointed' and I may have to get it'shaved to cut down the tibia pain, which can cut down the nerve pain as well. The opinion of most is wait til at least a year post surgery. I thought u had similar issues. Ironically, I have read that 25% of btk amputees w/ past failed ankle/ foot surgeries for many years require revisions.

I started with a suction sleeve. Began with a black sleeve on a gloss carbon fiber socket, but the sleeve was too large for my leg. Moved to a fleshy colored sleeve that fit much better. Problem with sleeves is they also pick up cat litter, and they tend to wear through within a couple of months. The soft silicone sleves are NOT durable, and insurance only covers 2 per 6 month period. I moved to a new socket, had it done in eggshell white with a painting of my Siamese cat on the side, and went pin-lock. MUCH happier now than with the old suction sleeve deal. Faster in and out (don and doff) and it looks far better. Using an Ossur 651 smooth pin. No pistoning, infinitely adjustable lockup. Amazing system

Greetings, my delightful lovely and oh, so smart internet friend!! I don't know if you have mentioned it or not, but I shall ask you anyway..., how do you take your coffee? My coffee cup holds approximately 32 ounces of fluid in it. Having spent my formative years in the New England State of Rhode Island, I am an aficionado of Iced Coffee and can, if left to my own devices, go through at least three or four quarts of the stuff a day. I try to limit myself to two per day as coffee can get rather pricey here in the Mid-Atlantic region and I do have a monthly budget. I quit caffeine some years ago, so my type of Morning Juice is a bit more money than a NYC regular. Thanks for reading this far. See ya!!

Probably silly question but I assume in a pinch you could patch a hole/tear with tape?

What about to put sleeve on leg and roll up then put leg into prosthetic and roll sleeve down? I hope this can be better/easier especially for the first time with new sleeve and you dont need to readjust sleeve like you did.

Jo, you can use duct tape to patch holes long enough to get you home. Duct tape is damn useful stuff.
