It's hard to correct without coming off as holier than thou sometimes. But we have to ask God for guidance and try and be as constructive as possible

No it really isn't. The first thing you have to do is saturate everything in prayer not for 20 or 30 minutes but for several days (unless of course it's some type of urgent situation). The second thing you need to do is be lowly in spirit humble and gentle. Still someone receive you as being judgmental I understand that but there's a lot that we can do but that's just my humble opinion

meaningless statement.. Theology is the study of God and God is love. Both says the same thing. This is what the doctrine of the word says in 2 Tim: 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [c]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

My father always said, "If you are not full of tears and sadness for a fellow Christian who has fallen into sin... You have no business ever opening up your mouth to bring a word of correction"! Humility/anguish and a passion for your brother or sister to escape the sin and destruction always accompany a Godly Correction.

With all brotherly love, Pastor John is conflating two issues: correcting sin and judging one another based on spiritual growth. Sin is nowhere in the context of Romans 14-15, but rather spiritual habits, practices, and convictions. Judgment is not to be passed because someone else thinks they shouldn't eat meat sacrificed to idols (for example), otherwise it then becomes sin. However, sin *is* to be judged by believers in an assembly sometimes even breaking relationship, as in 1 Cor 5:12-13. Paul here literally quotes the frequent refrain from the Mosaic Law: "purge the evil from among yourselves". Also as Jesus taught in Matthew 18:15-20, a passage often taken out of context to justify spiritual warfare against demons; but which is clearly about dealing with brethren sinning against each other. This passage starkly contradicts Pastor John, because sometimes we do treat a brother as an unbeliever when they will not repent of their sin against another. Concerning the tone and method of correction, sometimes (not always, but yes sometimes!) it is to be delivered sharply, as in 2 Cor 13:2 and Titus 1:13. And heresy is always to be opposed vigorously, as in Gal 5:12 and Phil 3:2. Doing something in love doesn't mean soft pedaling.

I agree, I was lead to do that very thing today. The Lord put it on my heart to encourage someone that I know well and it did not go well. I started in love and ended in love but they refused to acknowledge the events the Lord lead me to point out and when I offered them to pray with me and read about it, they shut down and became dismissive. I told them that it was a process and they could do it but I was received as a judgement. Perhaps it is, and needs to be. I have tons of problems and I am far from perfect, still I see them and do not ignore them. If I do ignore my own faults, I pray and try to recognize the ignorance and correct my pride. I left it with an open invitation to read and pray about it, talk to me if they wanted but definitely talk to God about it. That is a heavy burden but Jesus has taken it from me and given me peace. Pray for the lost, you who love and believe in Jesus Christ.

I went to a church leader to confess some issues in my marriage and went there with an open and honest heart. By the time we were half way in - I was called a liar because I used a word in its most common meaning instead of some new meaning that apparently is now in vogue. Then, when I stated that one cannot be called a liar over a difference of opinion on a definition... the counselor called me an arrogant jerk. I went there to own up to my behavior. I left there having to wrestle with forgiving the counselor. Some people just are not cut out to be pastors.

I'm sorry you went through this. It was still good that you went to the pastor and tried to submit to his authority. I don't want to accuse the pastor because I don't know the details (please don't tell me) but I had a family member even get her sin and a 2nd sin as well approved of by a pastor...one that had been so strong in the Word before. Ask the Lord to guide you and please do pray for a heart of forgiveness. If the pastor was in error you don't want his sin to keep you from heaven. And pray for him because now is not a time to stray from the truth. We are going into endtimes soon.

@@jmar8507 I guess the most disappointing thing was that I did not sense that the pastor was serving in the role of being a shepherd, despite 'Shepherding Pastor' being the actual title they have. Ironic that the only person on my heart as needing my forgiveness at this moment is one who should have been promoting healing and reconciliation. Deep down inside, and this is purely a hunch, I would not be surprised if this was a splinter/log dynamic going on. Thanks for your encouraging words and I will take them to heart.

@@oldschoolchartist We seem to be in a time of great testing from the Lord lately. I think it's His way of trying to make us strong for what is coming. For instance, I learned how to forgive others at one level but then He allowed the ones closest to me to start letting me down. I thought I had the forgiving lesson down pat, (easy-peasy). Boy, was I wrong. Have to learn the lesson again now at a higher level. :D That just means He loves us and is taking us through His school of discipleship.

Its say in the bible that we can judge, if it is based on what the bible say is good and evil.. if the bible and God can back it up.. .. we can still do it in a loving manner...but guess what , there is a such a things called tough love. . Make sure that the fellow Christians know what there talking or reading about from the bible...make sure they got there Theology right..based on the bible. As long as they dont twist the bible to fit there needs and wants..to fit there world and bible view... To not show love (and tough love) means using mean words that dont fix the problem, that have no purpose other than to hurt. Not welcoming, to belittle, to hate .to not care for.. to not nurture..

I'm watching this video because a good friend of mine just sent me an hour long video about a purported Christian KZfaqr who gathers stories from people who have supposedly died and supposedly gone to Heaven and then lived to tell about it. This is totally unbiblical. I'm just trying to think of a nice kind and gentle way to present to my friend and to even open this discussion without coming off as being heavy handed which I have a tendency to be in some situations. My friend is a Christian but she doesn't always lead a particularly Christian life, and quite frankly before I was moved along in my sanctification by the grace of God I was believing that people went to heaven and hell and came back and told about it. And certain KZfaq pastors straightened me out. But in all seriousness I would like a nice friendly sweet brotherly way to approach my friend about this video she sent and how it is totally thoroughly wrong and unChristian.

I wonder what is meant with having a loving confrontation because Jesus himself wasn't always softspoken and fluffy with his responses. Some folks love to deliberately sabotage others and then gaslight then by playing ignorant and innocent. Pure demonic behavior... What do we do then? I chose to tell the person that I found his action decetful, mean amd petty and left it at that. I stayed respectful and truthful, but not particulairly kind. What more is there to do? Bringing others to side with us is not something from this time imo. Anyone feedback for me?❤

Some of the rebukes of John the Baptist, Stephen, Paul and Jesus Himself did not manifest as described in this talk. There is a place for frankly rebuking and issuing public warning against another. In particular, it’s warranted when a “fellow believer” or “brother” repeatedly denies the truth, and repeatedly demonstrates they are anything but what they say are. A wolf in sheep’s clothing is more dangerous than can be imagined - more dangerous than a wolf in plain sight - particularly if in a position of power. What mercy is there to such a person by leaving the truth hidden, permitting them to continue their deception? And what mercy is there in doing so for others: to those who have already fallen prey to a predator’s deception, and those who stand to fall in future without warning? None.

@Picture Their Faces I agree. We’re to love and forgive - 77 times and beyond! But saving someone from the consequences of their actions when they repeatedly deny, and wilfully continue wrongdoing in the face of rebuke is not love: it’s enablement. In those cases, love looks like frankly rebuking and leaving them to consequences. You don’t love them or others by doing otherwise. You really don’t.

@@fomoco300k (1) Jesus lived as though He would one day give an account to His father. It is why - amongst other things - He called out and warned against wolves in sheep’s clothing, and false prophets. The OT prophets, John the Baptist, Stephen, Paul, etc called out and warned against the same, and for the same reason. (2) Jesus was perfect, but His people aren’t. So there’s a definite need to tend to the log in our own eye before tending to someone else’s. That doesn’t mean you must rid yourself of all sin and shortcomings before rebuking another. That’s impossible: we sin till the day we die. To get the log out of your eye is to see your sin, rather than be blind to it, and repent of it. (3) I agree that rebuke should always be a function of truth and love. But Scripture makes clear that love and kindness don’t always manifest as the offender would like - eg, being protecting from consequences, having wrongdoing minimised. For example: * Jesus prescribes that someone who repeatedly refuses to repent is to be set out of the community; treated as a “a publican or a tax collector” (Matt 18:17) * Paul told the community of a man engaged in incest: “hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.” (1 Cor 5:5) * Jesus, His prophets and apostles did not minimise or sugarcoat things when calling out the hard-hearted and unrepentant.

One time in church I videoed 2 out of 3 singers singing and put the 2 on my own Facebook page. My pastor private message me that same night to ask if I overlooked videoing the other person and putting it on my page. He was afraid the left out person would see that his singing wasn’t posted and get hurt feelings. Well that hurt my feelings because he was criticizing me for not videoing all 3 and put all 3 up. I decided to take the 2 videos down and don’t video anymore singing. ☹️ The pastor thought more about another person feelings than mine. Come to find out, the guy who I didn’t video rarely gets on Facebook because of bad internet so he wouldn’t of saw it most likely. Also I’m not even friends with him on Facebook.

give them milk (because you see/recognize their spiritual immaturity/ new faith) instead of meat (more mature faith and understanding of the Gospel doctrine). assume they understand nothing of the gospel and expect less of them because of that. doesnt mean think they're stupid but understanding that there is growing to do in their faith 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn't talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ. I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren't ready for anything stronger. @Gokart Bob Of course, we should correct falsehood and we should always speak the truth. However, one has to be tactful about how and when you address the issue. If you strong-arm the individual then they may not hear what you’re saying. Give them the space to be wrong. Sometimes you can say the right thing but because of the way, it is said it can be said out of pride. The concept your speaking about is misunderstood because they can't get past the abrasiveness of how it's being said (although a message can be abrasive the way it is said has to be said gracefully and with wisdom you want to balance truth and love.) For example, I was talking to another Christian and this Christian loves the Lord but they struggle with understanding and reading the Bible. They were wrong about their belief about what the Bible said about salvific issues. The conversation got heated and I started to emphasize that they were wrong and how I was right. At that point, it didn’t matter that I was right because I was more focused on making my point than I was about being disrespectful. I wanted them to hear what I was saying but in the process, I was trampling on their feelings and losing my message. I apologized for losing my temper in the heat of the discussion. We will probably talk about this topic at a later time. However, I want to make sure first that I say it gracefully and respect the fact they may not get it that time or the next or so on. I’m going to pray that the Lord reveals the truth to them. I will continue to love on them even though I believe they are in error about this topic.

I don't know the situation you are going through so this may not be a helpful answer but the Word says, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." I say that because the devil has been really turning up the heat on Christians lately through all sorts of temptations and pressures. We all feel it. One of my denomination's pastors said the enemy is trying to wear us out. (He even titled his sermon, "Worn Out.") The enemy has even been trying to bring temptations against me lately that I overcame years ago. When he started this, I pray more and even added fasting but still his awful voice would come into my thinking. Finally, the Lord just said to me, "You don't have to think that." "You don't have to do that." Just those simple Words coming from the Lord helped so much. Now when the enemy speaks such horrible things to me, that's what I say back to him. We are all tempted in the same way but the Lord Himself makes a way of escape that we are able to bear it. The Lord Jesus is the door of escape. Ask Him to give you a Word to defeat the enemy's voice in your life and then use that until the voice goes away. And if/when he comes back, ask the Lord for another word or a song...something to get that out of your head because, "You don't have to think that." Jesus set you free. :) Saying a prayer for you now.
