That’s great! Definitely check out the BitBuilt community. They are mostly about modding, but you’ll find some incredibly helpful people there who know a ton about every little detail of any retro console you can think of. If you ever need any help/advice, definitely check them out. In terms of gear, first I recommend you get a nice screwdriver/disassembly kit. Make sure it gives you a long enough screwdriver to reach into any screw hole (sounds oddly specific I know but not all screwdrivers fit into deep stuff like the Wii nunchuck). I wouldn’t recommend investing in a soldering iron unless you are sure this is something you want to pursue (since they cost a lot more than a screwdriver). If you want to see some guides/walkthroughs of repairs, check out the channel @OddTinkering because he’s the best there is and really has some creative techniques for restoring everything from a broken joystick to a yellowed shell. I’m really excited for you to pursue this hobby and I wish you the best! If you are a video game stuff collector it’s a great way to get some great pieces for cheap that you then get to use your artistry to make good as new! There’s a way to put art into anything you do and I know no process more satisfying than that.
