I have 2 layers of protection on our mattresses and pillows, waterproof and quilted. I change and wash them and the duvet sets every time I change the sheets. Also I wash our blankets once a month. I have 2 sets of everything for every bed. My duvet set and sheets are white, so I soak them in enzyme oxy clean for a couple of days before washing. Thanks for sharing. Yes, seasons can also affect how often you wash the linens. I know in the wintertime my husband likes the house SUPER cold and there are nights I'm 7 layers deep in clothes (often gloves and a beanie hat) when I climb between the covers. So washing the sheets is not as much a priority as is the pillow case and the first layer of clothing I'm wearing.

I love the smell of freshly laundered bed linen, and there is nothing nicer than having a fresh shower in the evening after a long, tiring day, putting on fresh pajamas and lying in a clean, good-smelling bed. I change our duvet covers at least once a week, more often (especially in summer), because our dogs sometimes sleep in our bed at the foot of the bed. Since one of the dogs is allergic to dust mites, we also have these special covers, which I wash every two weeks, the actual pillows and blankets (inlets) every four weeks. In order to completely remove the dog's hair from the duvet covers, I put them in the tumble dryer for 30 minutes at a low temperature after washing, then I hang them on the clothesline to dry (I try to use as little electricity as possible). When I was still working in the hospital (I am a nurse) I changed the bedclothes at least once in my shift for completely bedridden patients (and at the same time did at least one little "cat wash" - face, hands, private parts-). This has often had a visibly positive effect on their wellbeing; I think the need to feel clean is human nature and you shouldn't underestimate it.

Woop woop! Changed my bed clothes earlier and it's now in a boil wash with the bath towels. Fiancé and I sometimes sweat a lot overnight and often wear a t-shirt to bed to mitigate this. One each, that is! Bedding gets changed once a week, and there's nothing more soothing than getting into a bed with freshly washed linen that has been dried outdoors in the sun. Fully agree with the need for a clean bedroom, you spend a third of your life in it.

I have a duvet (a warm one for winter and a thin cool one for summer). No matter the season and with a room temp the same year round, I can wake up sweating. I don't have the time or the energy to then wash and iron duvet covers and I am also mindful of the impact it has on the environment so I always have a 100% cotton top sheet between me and the duvet which is replaced once a week. Replaced next day if I sweat.

If we spend 8 hours a night in the bed x 7 nights a week that's 56 hours in the same sheets and that is if we wash them weekly. If we only wash them every other week that's 112 hours divided by 24 hours / in the same sheets which is like wearing the same clothes for 4.5 days (24 hours a day) Ewww! LOL.

Thank you for mentioning the CPAP machine ❤️. Also, side/night tables and ceiling fans because, after all, the CPAP machine feeds you forced air, which is already around the machine and is delivered through the tubing attached, in order to keep the user's airway open/clear (in my case). I find dust on my machine every morning so I give it a swipe right then. Thanks for sharing 👍

Yep a weekly wash gal ...however I do the pillow cases more often and I have mattress and pillow protectors as well ...I also wash my duvet ( not just the outer cover) once every few weeks or change it and fabric spray with 99% germ kill spray.. lavender is good for keeping moths at bay and also promotes sleep... bicarbonate soda sprinkle on the mattress between turning and vacuum ..yep vacuum as bed/dust bugs - my mattress I cannot flip so I just get hubby to turn it as it has memory foam topper....when my children were small they had atopic eczema so I was told by a nurse to change linen 2-3 days ...and it stuck ...linen sheets ...cotton and if not possible for cost ...then cotton mix fabrics ...my husband moans about the sheer amount of linen ...but that's just how it is! My throws are changed 3-4 days to keep my furniture clean ....I have pups ...so if I want to.keep....my furniture clean ....bed linen must be easy 👍🏻 I have arthritis ..so it's difficult...I prefer sunshine to dry clothes rather than heat ..but I read bugs hate the heat of the tumble dryer ..so I may not be quite as good that way ...but I just love clean sheets ...it's my ting 😂

Hi Angela. Do you use an air purifier in your own home? Regardless, as if you do or not, do you know of one that's good quality and actually helpful for dust and smoke? - cigarette smoke smell from a person in the household that smokes outside but it comes in on their clothes. Hence, I'm sure some ash comes in the home. Thanks so much!

Hi Kat, Yes I do use an air purifier, and depending on the size of your home or the area you are trying to treat will depend on which machine you buy. This is a great one amzn.to/3OpYzIh (paid link) and a bit on the pricy side but designed for Allergens, Smoke, Smokers, Dust, Odors, Pollen, Pet Dander. When considering which one to buy, look at the cost of the filter replacements as well and the frequency of changing them.

I wish I could wash my bed sheets every week, but I just can't do it. My bedroom is tiny and the only way to position my bed that works is in the corner with a wall blocking one side and the head of the bed. The room is too small to pull the mattress out to create access (I then can't move around the room). So it's just too difficult and time-consuming to fight with it, and it's such a big project that I have to go as long as I can between doing it. I used to have a nice, normal size room with access on both sides and the ability to move around the bed freely to work on it, and I would change it much more often and it took a fraction of the time and wasn't nearly as strenuous. Now it's just awful though.

How many sets of bed sheets do you recommend having for each bed in order to be able to launder bed sheets at least once a week?
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 4 жыл бұрын
If you are just talking about a home - 2 sets per bed. If it's an Airbnb, 3 sets. One I would leave in a guest closet in the event that the guest had an accident (threw up or something) and needed to change the bed sheets without calling the host to come back to the property to reset the bed - and then one set for the wash between guests.

Your screen name says (Life After 60) which hints at post menopause. Does anyone have a recommendation for a brand or type of sheet that can be washed weekly in Hot/Sanitized water temperatures? I’m looking for sheets that will hold up. I’ve tried a few and they all claim warm or cold. Given my allergies, I’d like to use the Sanitized setting on my Steam Washers and Driers. Also sometimes certain stains require more heat to breakup and remove. I’ve had bad luck so far some sheets lasting only a few weeks or months before having noticeable wear in different ways. Thanks!

Lots of Bed and Breakfast owners in our network buy the Charisma brand of bedding from Costco. www.costco.com/charisma-400-thread-count-6-piece-sheet-set.product.100460908.html It is durable, stands up to frequent washing, high temperatures and is affordable.

What if you are extremely busy and honestly don't have time to do it once a week? I don't see how people with kids and pets and jobs can do that once a week 😵‍💫 We are lucky to get clothes washed once a week at our house. The exception is when someone is sick obviously. We can't afford a higher water bill, especially in the summer. They raise the price of electricity from like 6am-8pm in the summer in hopes of “conserving power” during hot summer days because everyone is using their AC and washers and dryers use a lot of electricity. It's two of the top things they suggest not using during these times. I can't stay up all night washing laundry (clothes plus bedding and other things like towels) or even splitting into two nights. I have to be up at 6am and need at least 8 hours of sleep.

Should I be cleaning my mattress? If so, how?
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 4 жыл бұрын
If you have a mattress casing you don't need to clean the mattress itself because that is barrier protection. And if your mattress has sheets on it most of the time, there shouldn't be a reason to clean it. There are people who sprinkle baking soda on their uncovered mattresses (without casings) and let it set while they was the linens to absorb smells or body odors. You can vacuum that right off with a vacuum attachment on the end of a vacuum hose.

If the bachelors sleep 8 hours a night (that is technically 1/3rd of a 24-hour day = 1/3rd of your life) with bed sheets wrapped all around your body like underwear - and only washed a couple of times per year... the negative consequences are they will probably stay bachelors. 😂😂😂

Fabreeze is another product that help eliminate odor on fabric, spray on & air drys quickly. Body sweat, odor & oils compound odors on permeable surfaces so also make sure your mattress & pillows are protected. Blankets, curtains, couch,chair fabric as well as carpets can hold odors too. Fabreeze can be used on those things too. Launder what can be washed.
