If you still train that much how has your progress been 2 years later? Is there much of a difference compared to going 4x?

If this wasn't scripted, it sure sounded that way. Articulate, informative educational. I benefited from this greatly the first time I saw it about a year ago. I was 45 and my goal was not stave off heart disease, make friends have something to do. Within two weeks my goals changed. I wanted to learn as much as I could and I went to 4-5x a week. As much as my body could handle. One thing I have learned, I've never felt bad for going. I've never left in a bad mood* Yes I've left feeling overwhelmed. My only regret is not starting sooner. Thankyou Chris Matakas for making such a good video that inspired, encouraged and motivated me to start training in BJJ. It saved my life.

I always think this is a blurry line - I train twice a week for about 2.5 to 3 hours per session. A lot of schools have a setup to where you do a basic class first followed by an advanced class for a total of about 2hours. So if I do 6 hours in two days as opposed to 1.5 - 2 hours three days a week - do the math. Also, I'm not a sport BJJ guy - I only want to learn methods for emergency situations. I would encourage everyone to take a good look at how long your sessions/classes are as opposed to how many days a week you're doing them. But ALWYS make sure you're working hard during your classes no matter how many days a week/how many hours you train.

Completely wrong. It's stupid to work hard every single time you train. You get better much faster training 6 times a week with a lot of those sessions being technique only and very technical rolls with no power and only doing hard rolls sometimes as opposed to going 100% 3 times a week. Americans don't understand this and it's why old Soviet countries dominant in wrestling. Volume and time on the mat using intensity wisely always beats going hard infrequently.

I'm 39 I train twice a week and if I have time I will do an open mat on Saturday mornings. On other days I go for a run or walk 20,000 steps along the seafront. I bought one of those grappling dolls and do drilling every other morning. Do what you can and enjoy rolling around getting beat up lol.

You definitely can. I started Muay Thai at 22 and had my first 18 months later. I did it for 3 years before moving into mma. Then covid. I ended up starting mma at 27. Focusing at lot on bjj currently. Been training 3-4 times a week for a few months and I love it. The great thing is, I can still train striking once a week and usual do a bit of pad work and sparring just to keep it fresh and not get too rusty. I want to compete in mma and will. If I was more committed I could have done it years ago but just got caught up in life. So to answer your question it's not too late and train both if you can .
