I'm sure I had this back in the early Seventies when it came with the Airfix Hercules - which was in 1/72!

I built this one when I was 9! Lovely little model, very tempted to have a go at it again. Some clear plastic card will remedy the lack of clear parts, and you even get a dog!

I built this model when I was approximately 9, which would be in 1962. In those days it cost three shillinhs, and came in a polythene bag. The Labrador dog was a favourite part of the model!

@@ModelMinutes They sold it in the Woolworths type 1/6d type hanging bag well before that, I suspect that at most, they modified the tool and started using a box in 1970. They also disagree about the scale. I think the original was 1/72, then sold as HO, finally settling on 1/76

Great video, thanks! Absolutely released prior to 1971 as I still have two I purchased circa 1967 and the only difference(other than the packaging) I can see to the later 70's version is that they were molded in green and the later version is in white. A nice kit with a super little Series 1 Land Rover. Cheers from Canada!

My original - circa 1962, was moulded in white. Airfix Magazine, a few years later (say 1966) had an article on various conversions to the Land Rover; long wheelbase and open top / back types and a rather neat little breakdown lorry.

I'm fairly sure this kit first came out in a plastic bag with foldover instruction sheet stapled to the top. I built three or for sets as I had acquired some Triang Hornby Battle Space railway wagons. I used them for loading the trains. Happy school days. . . . . Good review I thought too, thanks 👍👍👍👍

I've just purchased two more of these. As I have a 70s vintage already. I've just purchased a Hawker Siddeley Dominie t.1. Do you happen to have one in your stash. Can't seem to find anyone building on KZfaq.

Hi Matt, another great video and the 2nd on trot (my viewing) that won’t get made, I don’t do dioramas nor trains. Thanks for the scale explanation. Should the measurements on the box not be in inches on these Vintage kits? Just saying…… How about weighing the sprus and see what weight of plastic one gets for one’s money it may build an interesting spreadsheet? Bob England
@ModelMinutes
@ModelMinutes 2 ай бұрын
I have considered weight of the plastic before, but decided there were too many variables to make it a worthwhile metric. For example, if a kit comes with full frames and thus more plastic than the older style kits which are basically a stick with parts on, is it better to have more unused plastic? Extra flash would also count towards a higher weight so do we count a high weight of plastic as a good thing or a bad thing? The only way to be fair would be to cut every part away and weigh them, then all the sprues separately to get a ratio. Something I don’t really want to do seeing as I want to build my kits at some point lol

KZfaq hasn't had a private messaging system for many years now. Normally people either contact me through discord if they need to. I have been asked by many people before if I will do commision builds, but it's not often that I do due to available time

Hi again, on Vintage kits should the measurements on the box be in inches? Just saying!! Also thanks for explaining the scale as it was a mystery to me I guess your other hobby came into play here?! Good video but again I won’t be buying as I neither do train nor make dioramas. Bob England

Whilst the tooling used might be vintage, I think keeping the measurements on the box to modern standards is probably a good idea 😂

It became compulsory to teach metric in schools in 1968. It would have to be really old to be in aardvarks to the camel measurements.

@@melanierhianna Hi, 1968?! Really? I went to school well past this time period and don’t recall any focus on the metric system!! To this very day it mess’s with me as I just cannot ‘see’ say 33mm in my mind yet I can 14” . I do recall an amazing amount of time and effort getting decimal currency into our heads……… so much so that I never convert back to £SP! Weird or what?? Bob England

The explanation of the choice of scale was interesting. So... you can defend your HO-scale railyard, but you cannot defend your 1:72 scale airbase without being unauthentic! Poor doggy, having a sprue jammed up his unpleasantness.
