To study the Torah, one has to read between the lines. When studying the Tanach properly, questions should arise. And when those questions are answered the answers should cause more questions to arise. One can not achieve wisdom without questioning everything.

@@kilervgmmm Unlike Christianity, Judaism is based on the Written and Oral Torahs. After our G-d dictated the Written Laws to Moses he then taught him the the Oral Laws. The Oral Laws are how each written law is to be applied to different circumstances. Much the same way lawyers consult their law books when preparing a case. As the Jewish people found themselves living in circumstances that their ancestors didn't live in then they went to the Great Sanhedrin looking for advice. When these decisions became to massive to pass down orally they were written in the Talmud. For instance in Exodus 20:13 it says you shall not murder. But what constitutes murder? Is there a difference between homicide and manslaughter? When is it permissible to take another life? This is just one example of how we learn from questioning each verse in the Tanach. Don't your preachers read a chapter from your bibles every Sunday then explain its meaning? The Hebrew Tanach can not be understood along a linear plane but becomes very complex the more one studies it. This is how it has been studied by the greatest of rabbis down to young children for centuries. Jews aren't taught to accept anything by faith. This is why our G-d revealed himself to all of the People of Israel with his own voice, gave his Laws to them in person and made his everlasting Covenants with them in his own voice. This way none of them had to accept it on faith. This is why Judaism isn't a religion. Religions are based of faith and have an agenda to get you somewhere after you die. Judaism is based on revelation and its purpose is to teach the Nations who the Creator is and what all of us are expected to do to bring perfection to this world and finish Creation. So far the Nations haven't been listening.

This is a great introduction to Rashi. I would love to have more videos exploring these ideas in depth. For instance, an exploration of Rashi's commentary where it is intended to convey a "Jewish" perspective on Scripture in opposition to Christian interpretation.

No need for videos. Just study his commentary say, on Psalms,which offers a very Jewish approach. Rashi often writes there, "not like they say," and we all know who they are.

I liked your Rashi Story . First you mentioned that you don’t know about his Parents . I do know the Stoy of his mother . I was living in France for many many years , and his Mother was pregnant and walking in very narrow street , and suddenly a carrosse with horse almost hit her and hit the wall saving his Mother life and the wall still have a bad impacts cracks on the wall . Saving the pregnant mother carried her son Rashi with Hashem Miracle .i visited the Street Wall many times , and the crack on the wall still there in Troy’s ( France ) near Metz and the German border .

Christians also connect with Rashi based on his commentary of Daniel, prophesying of King Messiah, who was supposed to arrive before the destruction of the 2nd temple. So Rashi’s commentary reinforces the Christian belief that Jesus is the Messiah who Daniel is prophesying about, since he came and was “cut off” before the temple was destroyed in 70 AD

@ElizabethDMadison Elizabeth, just live a good life. I'm a lapsed Catholic but I know that's all Jesus wants from us. All of this stuff this Rabbi discusses is the proverbial "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin." It's wasted intellect and wasted energy. And it's not very brotherly; it's insular and obsessive of tribe and honestly not meant for you and not offered to you.

@@ElizabethDMadison Ms. Madison, there is an unbroken chain of transmission from Adam to Abraham to Moses to the Great Assembly to Rabbis in this very day. Judaism has the best information available. But you're not required to believe that; you're not required to learn anything about Judaism. You won't go to "hell", and you can still live the best life available to you in whatever tradition you find yourself. But you see how quickly anti-Semitism raises its ugly head? It's shameful, but it says more about the people who harbor animosity toward Jews than the Jews themselves. But christianity is right about one thing: we will all find out the truth shortly.

@CaesarRenasci stop with your "everybody's stupid," Dunning Kruger observations. List the top 50 people who had a "major impact" on the world, and Rashi wouldn't even get an honorable mention. It's part of the hyper-narcissism of the Jews to think he meant anything to any non-Jew. In fact, there are many Jews that did change the world. Einstein, Freud, among others.

The problem I find with the Talmud are the repeated contradictions with the written Torah by Moshe, for example prohibition of eating meat and milk together BRSH’T 18:7-8 This is just one example. The biggest and greatest authority is with the written Torah given to Moshe by Elohim and it also says in Debarim 4:2 not to add or delete from the written Torah. Most of the rabbis opinions is either adding or deleting from it. Shalom Alechem

It was never meant to be read cover to cover like every other book. It's a book of clues which was designed to be read by a community and taught by a person who studied it all their lives. Much different book when you study it like that!!

misleading. The Torah was given after Abraham, although Abraham knew God had a purpose/instruction for the world, he was not “religiously legally” bound by the law as it wasn’t enacted yet. Also the verse does not say he ate the mixture. Kol Tuv

@@Majobri Sir the Torah is ETERNAL. The world was created through the Torah. What was given on Sinai was a step down version of what was already fully understood by the likes of Adam and some generations after him. But by Sinai, that Torah was too powerful for the state of the world and so a sort of a diluted version was given at Sinai. It would be like Einstein speaking to a 5th grade class. He certainly couldn't tell them EXACTLY what he knows. He would have to tell them some analogy that they could understand SOMETHING with their diminished capacity. And your arguments against the Torah are like you standing up in that 5th grade class and telling people not to listen to Einstein because his material conflicted. You should just sit down and listen.

Both the Written Torah and the Oral Torah (which eventually was written down in the form of the Talmud) were given at Mr. Sinai. The Written Torah is not sensible without the Oral Torah which provides great detail and explanation of the Written Torah. The Oral Torah in that sense is even more important than the Written Torah since it breathes life into the words of the Bible. The Commandment is not to add or subtract from both the Written and Oral Torahs which function together to provide what we call "Judaism".

French Jews at the time were Ashkenazic? I thought they were Sephardic. French Jews would have migrated from northern Africa, where they lived after being expelled from Eretz Yisroel by the Romans. Or at least that is what I was told.

Nope. French and German jews decendants of Israel community. Some Spanish Jews were also decendents from Israel, but some were decendents of Babilon Jews. At time, Babilonian Diaspora was richer and more learned that Israeli. Than much late, in 1492 jews from Spain were exiled to North Africa, Middle East(Turkia) , some stay in Netherlands. And only much later, after French got North Africa, Sfardi jews come to French .

@@abupinhus OK, only I would add that if you go back far enough, we all came from Israel. All Jews share certain middle eastern DNA. My family was traced back to Spain, 1492. Only we went to Holland, and then to Germany.

For a while, there were two, largely isolated, comminities: the one in the south was Sephardic , formed largely after the expulsion from Spain; and the one closer to the Rhine was Askenasi. But that was long after Rashi, when the commimunity was Ashkenasi.

I can change Talmudic study forever. Here is the truth about the Bible. UFOs are on God's side and are described all over the Bible. The ancient used semantic and called the spaceships, clouds, pillars, chariots and glory. The Bible talks about “clouds” going up and down with people going in and out (Exodus 24:18 - Moses entered the cloud). Clouds do not make those movements described in the Bible, but spaceships do. Jesus ascended in a “cloud” (Acts 1:9). God rides in a “cloud” (Isaiah 19:1, Psalm 104:3). Jesus will come back “with” the “clouds” (Mat 26:64, Rev 1:7). Jesus will come back commanding a fleet of starships. The church will be raptured “in” the “clouds” (I Thess. 4:17). Spaceships will be used to rapture the church. The ancient did not have vocabulary or knowledge to understand what they saw so they called the flying objects “clouds”, “chariots”, and “pillars”, because were the words they had to describe something flying in the sky. The Bible even tells in Psalm 68:17 how many spaceships are in the fleet “The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands” (about 20,000). There is a good research done by Patrick Cooke called “The Great Deception - The Bible UFO Connection” which has the original words describing spaceships. It is all over the Bible. Jesus is real. He is the savior of the world, but He is not seating in a puffy cloud. He is commanding a powerful army, which will take control of our planet and stop all wars. The Jews had contact with beings from another planetary system called The Elohim, commanded by The Most High God. The Elohim had to have a special covenant with humans to be able to save our planet from destruction. They got the agreement with the Jews, but the Jews were not faithful to the agreement so The Most High God sent Jesus to make a new covenant and have legal rights to save our planet from destruction. The Jews made a covenant with beings from another planetary system. Psalm 82:1-6 says that God presides over a great assembly. Something like a federation of planets. If you want to confirm what I am saying just look at a painting made in 1710 by someone that had access to the secret archives of the Vatican. Look at the paint " The Baptism of Christ" by Aert de Gelder. Now that we know more about science, we can understand the descriptions in the Bible. They described high technology but didn't have words to express. When they saw spaceships with strong lights they called "glory”. The "glory" of God was a spaceship with lights. In the interplanetary law the price to save us was innocent blood. That is why Jesus had to die for us. He was fulfilling a legal requirement. Put your knees on the floor and surrender your life to Jesus.

Well, that's your problem. Do you know what I don't like? I don't like your labeling of the New Testament as "Bible." Jesus had no idea what the New Testament was as it was composed long after his death. Oh, and by the way, he put on tefillin, as the Letter of Aristeas shows us, and only condemns those who make the straps of the tefillin "long and broad" - this is called "tefillin gassot." Jesus also observed Chanuka as the NT shows. His sermons were ALL in the rabbinic style. Further, he said that not one letter of the Torah can ever be undone. Finally, he said that he had come not to heal the well, but the ill. In other words, Jews who were observant of the halakhic life were healthy and had no need of his revivalism. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Tanakh has many differences and contradictions with dead sea scrolls. Who is described in Isaiah 42? Isa as (Jesus) is Messiah and Muhammad (saw) is the final prophet of God. He preached exactly what Moses, Jesus, David, Solomon and other prophets of God taught to the people. That our God is one God and true life is life after death.

Note that many of the Dead Sea scrolls are not complete books, but rather fragments. These fragments were to have been parts of a complete scroll, but they contained errors and could not be used. Still, they had the name of G-D on them, so they were still holy to some extent, and could not be destroyed. The caves where the scrolls were found was a genizah, an area to put holy scripts which were no longer able to be used. In later generations, a genizah would be within the walls of the synagogue. Today we bury holy writings, including Torah scrolls and prayer books, in cemeteries when they become too worn for use. Many of the writings of the Dead Sea scrolls were actually on the back of secular documents. Sinch parchment was scarce, scribes in training would practice on the backs of documents of no religious value. These also would obviously contain errors. That is why there seems to be differences and contradictions.
