How One Rider Saved America from Humiliation (Jeffrey Herlings vs. Eli Tomac)

Күн бұрын

It was a dark day in American motocross. European rider, Jeffrey Herlings had just come over for a one-off, guest appearance race in the AMA National Pro Motocross Championship… And won. Even coming from last place after a first turn crash, all the way back up to lead before the chequered flag, passing Eli Tomac and all the rest of them along the way like they were standing still! But the real reason he was stateside? To acclimatize himself in preparation for the next round of his MXGP World Motocross Championship, which was set to take place in Jacksonville, Florida the following weekend. In light of all that’d happened, Tomac and a number of other American riders entered themselves as exhibitionists, and the world watched on with baited breath as it seemed like we were finally about to get a definitive answer to the age-old question… Who’s faster, Europeans or Americans?

The amount of footage sought out from every possible place, gathered together and then watched through to tell this story is a story that deserves to be told on it's own. I cannot imagine the workload it took to gather all these clips to tell these stories from every possible angle with so the visuals back up your words with such accuracy.

This is honestly what made me look through both videos the most. The story telling is amazing. The footage from all angles really sells it though. This feels like a perfectly orchastrated movie, not a KZfaq Video. Insane quality.

Totally different feeling going fast on a dirt bike. You're completely exposed and vulnerable at speed, these racers are nuts. Most don't realize they're racing at 50-60MPH on these tracks. That speed is nothing to sneeze at on a dirt bike. I have a 250, not even a 450, it's a rocketship haha.

This is beyond the level of a Motocross documentary, but a telling of events long forgotten. Whether they be simply lost to memory or suppressed in utter copium. This story of two legends in the making meeting, forging a rivalry, and settling the score as the gladiators of old would, is only one in a sea of many. While being masterfully told to the letter by you Ash, these are stories worth being retold to new ears. I would pay to see a series dedicated to the goliaths of motorsport meeting and laying it on the line for all to see on the national, and world stages. Many stories in this great sport have been lost to the sands of time, only being told by wise men who long to remind anyone who will listen to the tales of old legends. Where Gods among men accomplish feats only the few thought possible. When fate watched in anticipation and time stood still for all to see their glory. You have the stage and here's the mic Mr. Sowman, though only you choose when these stories see the light again. Cheers and I'll be waiting for your next video.

I am a die-hard European, cheering for a win for us every time, but even I have to concede that Tomac's luck was just a little too tough, and he was due for a little sunshine. Great ride. That Herlings won the final race in Florida, well he rode well, I don't want to go beyond that. Amazing battle.

Must admite. I've seen motocross back in my early 13s and simply went of the grid with age. The car racing scene got me and still has but watching your series I got a honest and deep feeling that this is so raw in human power and achievement that is pushing me hard enough to go see live and work my photography skills on this. Titans of motorsport no doubt about it. Crazy. I've know one of the world mx photographers and I keep tell him how much this series have impacted me to go from automotive to moto. Great video. It is nice to see how the European mx rides have overtaken the American's when it comes to being the fastest. I think it really comes down to the business model of motocross since JS retired(and really slowed down after RC retired). I think American motocross suffers from not being able to develop the fastest rides anymore. When I was growing up and racing in Florida until 2011 (to which I joined the navy) I remember Dade city, gainesville Gatorback, and other tracks being neutered. Lawyers are making tracks "safer" but also killing the sport. I rarely watch motocross or supercross anymore because it feels slow and limited. Nobody seems to push the limits in America and it makes me sad. Glad to see Europe didn't suffer the same fate. I do think Herlings is an incredible rider who seems to push the limit. Wish we would see something like that happen in America again.

Yeah, Americans don't really care about mxon, just like we don't really care about the Olympics... sx always takes precedence and it's a completely different animal compared to mx. Euro guys that come over here generally do pretty well, but they don't really dominate without dedicating their lives to it and even then, they still don't usually measure up to the greats that came before them. Tomac gets very little for winning an mxgp race, while risking his career. People get lost in the hype and forget simple cost/benefit analysis. I love all things dirt bikes, so I wish we'd get more in to mx like we used to and run an mxgp team, but the logistics for that make it really difficult. It's just not really feasible, forget about profitable.

The things i loved about this video : - Great story telling - Well presented - and pretty accurate The thing is , even if he kinda " Saved " ; 4 motos , 4 races : 1 for Tomac and 3 for Herlings --> At the end , Herlings Wons the " Duel " but Tomac got at the same time reality check by an other one , as fast as Herlings... So Delusion won't help America , it never will ^^

That inital humiliation cannot be undone. That is especially true, if your whole nation feels untouchable, just for all of the fans to get put in their place... I wonder why you are even getting triggered by that comment in the first place, to be honest.. And to give you another recent example, which is unrelated to motocross, while still kinda helping to prove my point, I'd recommend you to look up the whole "world champion" debate revolving around "Noah Lyles".
