I finished all three Bioshock games over two months, concluding about six months ago. It was my second playthrough, but now that I'm older, I appreciate the games even more. In my opinion, the first Bioshock game has a standout narrative with gameplay that is later improved in Bioshock 2. While Bioshock 2's narrative doesn't quite match the first, its gameplay (particularly the mini-games) sees significant improvement. Bioshock Infinite, which might be my favourite since it was the first in the series I played, offers a vastly more cinematic and heart-breaking narrative. Its gameplay isn't necessarily an improvement per se, but rather a new style befitting its setting. Alongside this series, the Halo franchise (just 1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach) and the Mass Effect franchise (including Andromeda, I know) are some of my all-time favourites. They are all so influential and memorable.

I have been getting the urge to play them again, and this comment might've just convinced me! I remember playing Bioshock 2 and enjoying it, but I need to go back and re-experience it after so many people have been singing its praises in the comments. Couldn't agree more on the original Halo trilogy, it holds a special place in my heart and I still like to go back and play it once in a blue moon. :)

*BioShock needs to delve deeper into the time traveling aspect. I feel like they only scratch the surface of it and never really give us that big taste were looking for. Clockwork Revolution looks like its gonna finally tap into the concept in a major way* 👌

That would've been great! Ken Levine moving on from the franchise to Judas is what it is, but maybe he'll eventually jump more into the time travel aspect in other future games :)

@@BeyondTheButtonMashI can give a few reasons. I find the gameplay more engaging for one. The environment/atmosphere are better, a lot of Columbia feels like and empty stage play set to me. I prefer the story of 2, especially the Minerva's Den DLC, it was so good.

bio 2 is def the best playing in the series, and thats quite an acomplishment considering infinite is more a straight shooter and therefore an inherent advantage, but the writing left me hollow, regardless i still consider it a ‘great’ game, like the other entries in the series as for infinite feeling like a stage play… considering the writing, i kinda find it’s duplicity to be the point

If I could relive my first play through of any game again it would be the first bioshock. It's such fantastic storytelling. One thing you don't touch on Infinite is the online gamers response to it on release, it really coloured how the game was received despite the positive critical reception. I didn't play it for a long time because the overriding sentiment in some spaces online was that the series had been ruined. It was only when I did I realised the pushback was because the story depicts racism, and the backlash was an early example of a gamergate style campaign. It's not the highlight of the series but it's a great game and it didn't deserve that.

@@GrandFew Oh wow! I either completely forgot about the reception from some online communities or hadn't seen it before. It's too bad infinite got the reception it did, all Bioshock games are worth playing. I feel like Infinite and Burial at Sea play an interesting role in the franchise, showing off rapture before the fall and what a utopia it would've been for many. Hopefully more will continue to find and play the Bioshock franchise, or give Infinite another shot. :)

Given all the negativity surrounding the games industry of late- and it's well deserved, in my opinion- it's refreshing to see someone focusing on the positive side of things. Usually, pioneers aren't really recognized as such without the lens of hindsight, and other times it's hard to recognize that it's what they are when they're overshadowed by other things. Also, do try to find the time for The Last of Us, it truly does have a fantastic story, but I don't think it's quite as transformative as Bioshock was for its time. Great job on the video, look forward to watching more of your work. :)

@@iratemexican Thank you for such a kind comment! We need to remember the good so we can make more of it. I just started watching The Last Of Us(the show), and I'm really blown away by the story. I don't know why I waited so long when it's been recommended for years, so I'll probably have to pick up the game soon. :)

@@BeyondTheButtonMash You're most welcome, and I agree! I still think the negatives need to be pointed out just as much as finding and extolling the positives so that a good kind of change can be brought about, but it's hard to find a good balance in this particular space. Keep up the good work! :D I haven't gotten a chance to watch the show, but the game is one of my favorites in terms of story and characters, so I hope that you enjoy it just as much when you do get the chance. And hey, comparing and contrasting the show and the game might be an idea for a future video!

If you're saying Baldur's Gate 3 will change the gaming industry in a similar way, yes, I absolutely agree! I haven't played BG3 but I am keeping a close eye on it. The reception to the game is unlike anything we've seen before, and I had the opportunity to attend a panel for it at EU Twitchcon this year. Almost a year after release and people were SO excited to see the panel! I think one of these days I will have to pick it up just to be in the "know" of what makes it so enticing. Those styles of games don't normally appeal to me, but I can give it a shot :)
