Notes/Corrections/Edits
#1 - When I say vector throughout the video it may not be the correct term, if it isn't just think of the vector as "value"
#2 - At 12:20 I say that position packets go out to 16 decimal places, this is incorrect. Position packets are doubles, meaning they have 53 significant bits which translates to 15.95 decimal digits. This then gets rounded down to 15. See: stackoverflow.com/questions/9... for a technical explanation
#3 - Throughout the video I say that fastmath gives up to 3.000253 blocks of reach, this might not be entirely true as it was done by subtracting the difference in the precise reach display mod. In reality this was just taken at one angle and at other slightly different angles the rounding might be even more wrong. I have some information that optifine can give up to 3.0023 blocks of reach which is actually much more significant.

Optfine will round up and down in equal chances so there is no need to do the math. The chance of you getting one extra hit is the exact same as the chance of you losing one hit.

Ryan Bernard you physically can’t control your angle that precisely to matter, so we can just assume an extremely large sample size (linger period of time). Over time, ON AVERAGE probability is more accurate, so they will cancel out, making this effectively useless.

@Ryan Bernard Yes of course your movement determines that, but it's not physically possible to angle yourself to the 0.5 degree while playing the game in real time. Yes, in a hypothetical situation you could carefully angle yourself before every strike, but this is not at all possible when your opponent is running around and you have to be constantly fighting.

theoretically, someone could make a mod to round your head position to those angles, then move your head to that position within half a second (not instantly cause then everything would look snappy). of course this is a terrible idea cause if you're doing that make *clap* a *clap* reach *clap* mod *clap*

he was using optifine..that is basically reach and optifine also has a hidden killaura and fly in it. my friend got banned on hypixel for using optifine fly. it was a big scandal last year optifine got exposed for injecting a fly into it

@@grqfes Well, so getting good is just training. And you CAN train to do these perfect hits that you get "extra" with OF. So when you play without training, just casual, it doesnt't give you the extra hits. But OptiFine gives you the OPERTUNITY to get even better than you can get with pure Vanilla. That IS an advantage.

So another shorter explanation I can think of is that instead of the player's reach being a perfect circle around him/her, it becomes a polygon with fast math, and so slightly sharper edges are created where reach becomes slightly longer and some edges become flatter where reach becomes shorter. Think of like those old games where perfect circles were impossible and so you get slightly sharper "circles"

In the description, it says positional packets go up to 15.95, but get rounded to 15. This is incorrect. What actually happens is it is 15 decimal places, but the rounding is 16 and misses .05. The StackOverflow post is a good explanation.

No it's not LOOOL you realize they use NCP (Nocheat+) with an essential of "watchdog" being the 'ban hammer' and detecting hacks. With NCP you can go above 4 blocks of reach. I would say 4.1-4.2 blocks will bypass without getting you banned. If you CAN BYPASS AT THAT RANGE THEN HOW DO YOU GET ABOVE JUST A LITTLE OF 3 BLOCKS REACH LOL IDIOT

Its less of a boost in reach than half the distance of one pixel with a x64 texture pack. plus the odds of it giving you a bennifit is just as probably as it giving you a disadvantage, it will round down an equal amount as it rounds up during regular play.

Basically, Optifine's Fast Math has 16x less looking vectors, so that means it's more imprecise. The more imprecise it is, the more possibility that these looking vectors will give an imprecise reaching distance ~3m.

Can you make a video explaining why in 1.8+ (I didn’t test it in other version) you have a SLIGHTLY bigger reach when you are looking south ? (The difference is about 3.05 maximum I believe) It’s doing the same with east / west ! (You can test easily while standing still with block behind you and behind the person in front of you)

Sminlez I tested it. BYSLIDE tested it. I tested it for an hour in 1.8 vanilla & 1.8.9 Papper. Give me a server IP and we can try. He cheated and besides that this doesn’t affect the pvp at all, but it is true.

A great way to illustrate why the rounding affects distance would have been with a big sphere of blocks and saying it represents the area you can reach. The outside of the sphere is... Well... Blocks. It isn't smooth and that's where the inconsistency comes from.

If you seriously gave up when the little notification said "unidentified developer" then you're missing out on probably thousands of apps that work completely fine you just gave up too fast. All you have to do is right click it, then select "open" instead of just left clicking it. It will then open a different box that asks you if you want to open it or not.

to actually calculate the effect of an extra hit registering, i would need to have a distribution curve of hits and their respective reach. that curve should be specific to a single server, as more sweaty servers have more experienced players => more players hit closer to the 3 block hit limit. then, you would approximate that curve with a function and extrapolate the domain of the function to include up to 3.000253 from there uhhh take the integral form 3 to 3.000253 of that curve, take the reciprocal to essentially find in average how many hits would need to reg for 1 of them to be unfair. it should be a huge number

With fast math having a larger array of variables won't make the math slower. It will just take up more memory and take abit more time during initialisation.
