Oh, The Things You Can Cut!

Жыл бұрын

I disassemble my Microtech Dirac Delta and explain the complex mechanism inside. If you've ever wondered how OTF automatic knives (switchblades) work, this is the video for you!

Oh my gosh, my daughter bought herself an expensive switchblade at the mall that she’s in love with. I’ve never had one and was playing around with it and it stopped working. I thought I broke it and she was going to be so upset with me and I’d have to pay to get it fixed. Then I thought maybe if I watch a video on how they work I can take it apart and fix it myself. So I was watching this and figured it out. I pulled the blade out all the way and the mechanism snapped back into place. Now it’s working fine, I didn’t need to take it apart. I feel like an idiot, but oh the relief and now I know how these things work. Thank you! I’m going look like a genius when she inevitably does the same thing and thinks she broke it, just to have me take it and fix it no problem. Lol

You can just snap your wrist and the centripetal force will click most OTFs back onto the track

This vid is by far the best OTF teardown and demo of function which I’ve seen on YT. I’ve owned a few OTF’s and have already disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, so I understand the machine. However, I can’t currently take my Delta apart, (because proprietary hardware), so I really appreciate your choice of that particular model here! 🤠👍

Dude, AWESOME video!!!! You did such a great job explaining exactly how these work in great, simple detail. I just got an TacKnives DA OTF knife a few weeks ago, and while playing with it I was really curious as to how these worked. The idea that the same switch could deploy the knife and also retract it with force really had me stumped until your video. Thanks again!

Right, though? At first, it seems like black magic or computer science. But nope. Just a couple gates, a sled, and a spring. Pretty cool stuff.

Thanks! I’m glad you liked it. To answer your question, I’d say it’s up there as one of my favorites for sure. I’m super bummed, though, the spring just snapped out of nowhere! Big let down. Before that happened though, I think the Dirac Delta, the Hera, and the Heretic Manticore-E and Manticore-S are my favorites.

Excellent! Thanks for showing exactly how it works. I appreciate that you took your time to explain parts individually. I have seen other videos when it’s like a game show where the person in the speeding through and it seems like a test to see how fast he can disassemble and reassemble. Very informative.

Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you were able to follow what was happening. I plan on doing a relaxing build video of the knife as well, showing the assembly process from start to finish, if that sounds interesting to you.

Great video man, very informative. I just ordered this same knife and I know there's no way I'll be able to rely on Microtech's customer service alone, so it's good to see what I'll be getting into if/when I need to repair it.

Isn't it kinda funny how much people pay for such a simple machine? You can buy one of these made of cheap materials for $8. Are the materials they use for brands such as microtech really worth spending up to $1000? Or, are we just paying for a brand name? I have a microtech that was around $500, but I don't use it. I also have an Atomic Defender OTF that was $35 and works just as well. I have cut Manny Manny boxes with my cheap otf and it has never misfired. I do have to sharpen it every once in a while, but I enjoy that. Thoughts?
