"This study seeks to solve the following puzzle: In 1947, the Pakistan military was poorly trained and poorly armed. It also inherited highly vulnerable territory vis-à-vis the much bigger India, aggravated because of serious disputes with Afghanistan. Over the years, the military, or rather the Pakistan Army, continued to grow in power and influence, and progressively became the most powerful institution... Over time, Pakistan succumbed to extremism and terrorism within, and was accused of being involved in similar activities within the South Asian region and beyond. Such developments have been ruinous to Pakistan’s economic and democratic development. This study explains how and why it happened." [OUP website]

As Prof. Ishtiq indicated one reason for garrison state, another might be, " If pak is given venerable borders they will have natural tendency to develop army and garrisons state.

you're right! This is one of the primary reasons why this country became a security state... roots of this problems are embedded in colonial era

Vulnerable border ? Pakistan made its border vulnerable to itself . You attacked independent kashmir in 1947 Pakistan launched operation gibrator in 1965 and operation grand slam in kashmir . In 1971 actual war started by pakistan on 3 December by attacking indian air fields . On 16 December general aak Niazi with a single pen 1999 kargil war launched by musarraf just 2 months after atal Bihari Vajpayee ji came to lahore . I don't think pakistan have any argument to defend their point of view . My source is mr ishtiaq Ahmed , a pakistani historician .

@@AyushGupta-qr1pu If you read his book or watch his interviews, he clearly indicates that boarders were drawn in such a way that Pakistan would always feel unsecure + Punjab was also divided for some similar reasons.. No doubt Pakistan has made some bad choices over the course of last seven decades; however, the root-cause of most of those problem dates back to British deceits... thx for watch and commenting Ayush!

@@ReviewswithUsman The 'Idea' of Albakistan is inherently backed by a 'warlike' religion, a population with ummah patriotism would inevitably become a Warlike state.
@ReviewswithUsman

@@alamagoddystyle this idea has certainly gained more strength off late, but I don't think there's enough academic evidence to support this argument, and it might well fizzle out soon.
