Paper Mario TTYD good. Very good. So good in fact that I felt like spending just under 30 min gushing about the incredible immersive experience it's remake on the Nintendo Switch gave me!

Grodus actually didn’t get through the thousand year door before mario, Beldam tricked Mario into opening it, then while Mario was in the Tower and unlocking the rest of the dungeon, Grodus went down the passage first and beat Mario to the throne room

6:01 If you remember, the Frankly who runs up to you and rushes you towards opening the door after chapter 7 is Doopliss in disguise. Grodus had yet to get behind the door, and due to Doopliss lying and claiming that "somehow Grodus got behind the door! I know it sounds crazy but he did!", Grodus makes his way through the door a while after Mario opens it. I'd say the opening for him to get ahead of Mario would have been when Mario completes the palace of shadow tower puzzles.

twilight town and the curse is essentially a re-telling of rose town in mario rpg but instead of arrows freezing everyone, a bell turns everyone into pigs

The trouble quests did a really good job of immersing me into the world, as someone who never played the original this game was incredible, beat the main story in 3 days. One of my sessions came in at 12 hours, couldn't put the game down. Watching videos on the GC version and even hearing the QOL stuff they added in this video makes me appreciate this remake a lot more. Ms Mowz and the Moon Battle theme are my favourites, love more upbeat EDM esc music but in general the tracks are great.

The funny thing about Beldam's bullying is that in the new english script... she's not actually being transphobic anymore. She doesn't misgender Vivian anymore, she doesn't rub Vivian's biological sex in her face, she only insults her in other ways. So if you didn't know the original japanese version, you'd have no reason to believe Vivian's gender identity had anything to do with Beldam's disrespect. Vivian even says "now their usual bullying feels heavier", implying the level of bullying hasn't changed, but rather Vivian's perception has. I think Vivian should've said that while Beldam was never exactly nice to her, she really packed on the bullying ever since Vivian became her sister. But yeah, it's funny how a big chunk of the internet has used Beldam as a symbol for transphobia, even though she's not actually being transphobic anymore. 😅 Nintendo probably wanted to keep the controversy to a minimum, but as a result they have taken away Vivian's and the player's opportunity to stand up to a transphobe. What a shame. :P

Yeah, Beldams bullying felt the exact same in her treatment towards Marilyn and Doopliss.... but I'm not sure how to differentiate her attitude with Vivian. Even in the og English despite it being censored, she was much harsher to Vivian and outright calls her ugly, and goes as far as to call Marilyn her lovely and Vivian her ugly, but in the remake she just gets made at her for getting the name wronf and even calls both Marilyn and Vivian "lovelies". I wasn't sure I liked the change from Shadow Sirens to the three shadows, but it did make the interaction make more sense, and it makes me like "The Three Shadow Sisters" a lot better. It also gave us the most transphobic thing Beldam did, saying "relation-withheld" implying she didn't see Vivian as her sister... which then again... you're right as she was not really much of a transphobe here, at least in the scenes we saw. Outside of their interaction when we first meet the ladies in Chapter 2 and battle them as well as Vivian's introduction to Mario, every scene plays out the exact same for the most part. I really do appreciate Vivian getting to be a positive example of a trans character, and I'm glad they didn't layer it on so thick in the dialogue because it keeps her personality as the kind, sweet girl we know and love heavily the same. Sure, she could have used a couple more scenes explaining it.... and they could have added more dialogue between her and Beldam when Beldam confronts Mario and his team before Chapter 6, and when the Shadows corner them again in front of Riddle Tower.. but I'm happy with what we got. A lot of media tends to take a trans character or a queer character and make their sexuality or gender their entire personality, and I'm beyond happy that was not the case with Vivian.

Parakarry gets referneced in that Sticker Star World 5 garbage area too. Heck, something most people don’t know is in the Japanese version, apparently, it’s hard to find anything for bc nobody wants to give me info on Japanese Sticker Star, but apparently there’s a message in that trash pit by a game named David (i think) and he has a very specific thing he says that basically confirms he’s Flint Cragley from SPM, but the localizers didn’t really know this i guess so the reference was lost in the western release At least I’ve heard this and honestly it does make sense bc why would they reference the first 2 games and not SPM? Nyways this video is so real. Shoutout to Luigi on the title screen after u beat the game. That made me scream

I say the real fun mystery is how we never see how quickly Peach gets captured until it's revealed who kidnapped Peach in the 1st place. Folks who have beaten the game can take a wild guess who was the mystery merchant, but what impresses me, trying to question the behind the scenes is, after Peach opens the chest, she had the quick time to send the map by mail and was able to be send, and then not too long after she gets kidnapped. One thing I can't help but ponder is Lord Crump's design. I love the X-naut designs, same goes for the villains in Super Paper Mario, but there's something I can't help but question looking at Lord Crump. It may be me, but I swear he looks like a knock-off of Dr. Eggman, like if Eggman decided to go into hiding from Sega/Sonic and stumble upon the Paper Mario universe by accident and decided to look like that. If there's any minor cons I would give to the game it's a few things. the timing of the Jump using that one Badge is alittle different now. the lack of speeding up the text I hope there's an update for them to patch that but oh well. I don't get why the removal of the audience claps after you finish each battle, it was very rewarding. Lastly I know it's a stretch to ask but i wish they let us play Luigi's story whenever you talk to him in each chapter. I'm not against hearing him tell his wild story about his adventures in the Waffle Kingdom, I just can't help but laugh at the funny idea of Nintendo actually creating a possible side story within the main story you can play and whatever you did will be carried over per chapter.
